  1. He can throw, but for a guy who works with the Molina’s, his glove work is less than stellar.
  2. Giving up homers is not a big deal. These are big league hitters, they are going to hit them. As was pointed out last night, Justin Verlander leads the majors in homers allowed with 25 or 26, which is 10 more than Porcello; he has given up more than Porcello the last 3 years combined as well. The key is giving up solo shots or 2 run homers at most. The 3 run and grannies are what kill you. Jim Palmer gave up a ton of homers. He never allowed a grand slam and only a handful of 3 run shots. Didn’t stop him from getting to Cooperstown.
  3. Exactly. Do the naysayers think Velazquez would have fared better? As I posted earlier, he hasn’t pitched since the 6th. That’s a long time off for a guy who has to rely on control.
  4. Figures. Tellez, rookie Sox killer, goes down and Slovak, multi-season Sox killer, wakes up.
  5. It all started with a get me over fastball on a 3-0 pitch.
  6. What? You lose a lot of credibility with posts like that.
  7. I remember that in the 1969 World Series. Cleon Jones, wasn’t it?
  8. So who are you trading to get one, cause you aren’t getting one for just Benintendi.
  9. The umps somehow missed the fact that the ball hit Benintendi’s foot. You can’t fake that reaction.
  10. In what position? Who are you replacing? Who are you giving up?
  11. How do you win 9 games for the f***ing Orioles by sucking? Seriously, he hasn’t pitched since July 6; it’s showing in lack of sharpness.
  12. Good grief some of you panic waaaaay too easily.
  13. He was killing Sox pitching this year for sure.
  14. May be the effects of not pitching since July 6. That’s a long time off.
  15. He was 9-3 with the O’s. He was the only guy they did get a lead for; I think they said when he was traded Baltimore had 28 wins total.
  16. Sogard singled on a 9 or 10 pitch AB, fouling off 6 or 7 pitches. Vlad Jr. hit into a DP. Gurriel tripled on a pitch 6 inches outside and Grichuk bounced out.
  17. Sogard’s AB would have made Wade Boggs proud.
  18. Gurriel’s triple was on a pitch 6 inches outside. Shades of Vlad Sr.
  19. Works quickly, I like that. So far, he’s fitting right in. 6 foul balls so far.
  20. Giving up homers is not a big deal. Somewhere in this thread I mentioned Verlander leads the majors in that category and someone else noted Verlander is second in the majors over the last 3 years. The difference is the Houston righty gives up very few other runs. I think he’s allowed 26 homers this year but only 45 runs overall. Tells me he gives a lot of solo shots. Porcello has allowed 16 homers but 70 runs. That’s the real problem. Ditto Sale.
