  1. They’ve had their chances. But Scherzer did what great pitchers do when they aren't at the top of their game; he kept the score reasonable.
  2. Did that hit the pole?
  3. Definitely got the 2-1 pitch. But the plate ump has been really good; that was only the second obvious pitch he missed all night.
  4. Great outing by Greinke. I hope the regular season idiots on this board who bitch about not being able to light up anyone who doesn’t throw 96+ were watching, but somehow I doubt it.
  5. Gutty performance by Scherzer; hurt which has affected his control but still held the Astros to 2 runs through 5. Somewhat Schillingesque ala Game 6 15 years ago. Like Verlander last night, he’s being outpitched. Greinke has been fantastic (not sure that adjective is adequate).
  6. Can you get your nose any further in the air?
  7. Seems to me there's not much more that they can do. They've tried talking extension with him a few times and he's not interested; he is going to test the FA market. The only way he's playing 81 games at Fenway in 2021 is if the Sox have the highest offer after next season.
  8. He’s pitched pretty well both games this series, not his best but decently enough. He’s given Houston a good chance in both games but Strasburg has outpitched him both times. The Astro’s pen imploding in both of Verlander’s starts makes the game results look a lot worse than how he pitched.
  9. Yes, rosters expand on September 1 to 28 and every team MUST have 28. No more of one team calling up 12 guys and another 5.
  10. And it’s not like the Nats have crushed the bell this inning (well Suzuki did). The biggest hit of the inning for the add on runs was an infield chopper and this last one could not have been rolled in a better spot.
  11. Astros are in major trouble. Do you really want Grienke taking the mound in a virtual must win postseason game? Go Expos.
  12. He’s a competitor. Those guys never want to come out of a game and they really hate being taken out during an inning. In 1968, Bob Gibson was never taken out during an inning all year (not that there was ever much reason to). I think he would have killed Red Schoendist if the Cards manager had tried.
  13. Suzuki got mixed up and thought he was facing a Red Sox pitcher. Remember how he used to always seem to come up with a big hit in games with the A’s? Man he used to kill us.
  14. It was not a serious proposal. Ghost seems hellbent on trading Beni and asked what you/we (collectively) would want for AB. You responded nothing. I merely gave an absurd example of what it might take to change that nothing to something, because for both you and me and 99% of this board, that’s the kind of over the top thing it would take right now.
  15. How do you you know he wasn’t? Maybe it was a disaster. Maybe he refused to do it. They put Hanley at 1st; while it wasn’t a total fiasco, he didn’t exactly exude confidence at the position, and he was an infielder to start with. Bottom line is we don’t know what was tried or discussed, and a manager isn’t going to reveal that type of information. It was supposed to be a Moreland/Pearce platoon. If you could predict that Pearce would not only completely tank but then get hurt for most of the year and that Moreland would miss significant time concurrently, then can I have Wednesday’s or Saturday’s lottery numbers please.
  16. Palmer was 20 years old that year, McNally 23 and Bunker 21. Dobson debuted with the Tigers in 1967 and actually only pitched 2 years in Baltimore, 1971 and 1972. The former was the year when Palmer, McNally, Cuellar and Dobson all had 20 or more wins.
  17. I actually do wonder what goes on there. Too many players arrive in NY, have a career year or 2, and don’t do squat once they move on. Not going to attribute LaMahieu’s year to the special sauce, he’s been real good the last 4-5 years with the Rockies. The homer increase has to be the little league distance in RF at Yankee Stadium. Oh, in the spirit of our Alma Mater’s opponent this Saturday, Michigan sucks.
  18. He doesn’t try and launch every pitch. He fouls tough strikes off, especially with 2 strikes. He hits the ball where it’s pitched. In other words, an old school type hitter. The homer he hit the other night was on the 10th or 11th pitch of the AB. Osuna made several very good pitches that were fouled off before LaMahieu got something to drive. He’s a real good hitter and former NL batting champ, and has been fantastic his age 25-30 seasons (something to consider in your zeal to trade Benintendi).
  19. Not sure I’d say nothing but it would have to be an overwhelming offer. For example, if the O’s were dumb enough to offer Mancini, I’d strongly consider it.
  20. Beni is 25; he had a bad offensive year in 2019 and it was still superior to all but one of JBJ’s full seasons. He has shown that he is willing to change things up when they aren’t going so well (Bradley has said he will not alter his approach no matter what). He also will cost about 1/4 of what Bradley will this year. If Benintendi continues to scuffle for a couple more years like he did this one as his salary rises, then it becomes a different story.
  21. Sometimes one inning
  22. The Orioles used only 4 pitchers in that series. Dave McNally allowed 2 runs in 2 1/3 in Game 1, then Moe Drabowsky pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in relief. Jim Palmer, Wally Bunker and McNally followed with complete game shutouts. Drysdale lost games 1 and 4, Koufax and Claude Osteen lost the other 2. Koufax retired at age 30 after that series.
  23. Well, they did draw more walks in 2019 than they did in 2018 LOL
  24. To jacksonianmarch, who has been such a gracious front runner all season, BWAHAHAHAHA.
