  1. The thing is they aren’t cheapie Yankee Stadium homers for the most part, they are bombs.
  2. Nooooo, unless it is cancelled September 1 or later. Season has to get to that date for the luxury tax reset to occur. Otherwise, we’re going to be subject to this show again next season. What’s worse, teams like the Yankees and Dodgers would avoid the tax for another year. They may not care if they pay it, but at least they would have to.
  3. I’m sorry, but there need to be some Yankees put on their butts. They are waaay too comfortable up there. Edit - And I mean all teams need to do this, not just the Sox.
  4. Those are things the other team gets.
  5. I just looked up Perez’s stats vs. the Yanks. They are mindboggling. Going into this game, on 5 games and 22 innings, he has a 9.97 ERA, an OPS of 1.137 and a WHIP of 2.123. Those have not gone down tonight. Why would you ever send him out against NY?
  6. Been an issue for years under multiple hitting coaches; it’s on the players.
  7. Vas’s defense is decent, but IMO his game management is not; his pitch selections are somewhat predictable (I realize most are called from the bench). There are times a catcher has to go out and get on a pitcher. He has never done this, even before the mound visit limits. Leon would go out when needed, Vaz won’t. His hitting is always going to be sporadic but I can live with that from a catcher. He’s okay to keep, but he’s not a guy you build around, ergo, not a core guy.
  8. Probably not, but at least tonight, he wasn’t horrible. Let’s face it, “not a major leaguer” describes at least half the staff, and 2-3 other guys are borderline.
  9. Can’t always look at results. Mazza had some bad luck and gave up several soft hits. The one by Hicks sums up this season though. He looked good enough to give him another start. He may well pitch himself into oblivion. He didn’t do that tonight.
  10. I feel a record setter coming here.
  11. You really had to work for that one. Only walked one guy too, which is a marked improvement over anything they’ve thrown out there lately.
  12. For all the gnashing and wailing of teeth about Mazza, he really didn’t pitch that badly. Two bloop hits in the first led to a run. Horrible luck on the Hicks grounder hitting the bag in the 2nd. Torres gets a 60 foot squibber ahead of the one truly bad pitch he made. I’m not saying he was great, but I’d give him another shot. Weber got hit harder but got some at’em balls.
  13. 17 days until the reset is valid. They cancel it September 2, I don't care.
  14. I'm not sure, did JD strike out 4 times on 12 pitches tonight?
  15. I was responding more to the OP's second sentence.
  16. I’d cut him a break tonight. He’s a closer pitching in a blow-out game who hasn’t pitched in a week. I’d expect him to be much sharper next time out (assuming that’s not sometime around Labor Day).
  17. Don’t get me wrong. I just was always stunned that Ortiz never once hit 3 in a game.
  18. It is an amazing feat. Of course, the Sox had another player who hit 541 home runs and never hit 3 in a game.
  19. Didn’t the Rays go something like 8-1 at Fenway last year?
  20. They picked up Christian Arroyo on waivers today from the Guardians. He’s out of options so he has to stay with the major league roster or designated again. Lin in trouble roster wise? This acquisition just could be the missing piece.
  21. They might be but only in long relief. Game gets a bit out of hand early situations. If they hold the other team, they give the Sox a slim chance of coming back. If they don’t, at least they save the short relievers.
  22. Tampa sure has the Sox number at Fenway the last couple years.
  23. Would appreciate score updates folks. A derecho swept through here yesterday and we’ve had no power/internet for over a day now. This is one of the few sites that data will load reasonably quickly.
