  1. I say that if you do that and it fails then you will get those who support the high leverage approach saying the game can't be saved if your team is behind.
  2. Do you love the fact that Leon just caught 6 innings of shutout ball with Sale and gunned down ex Sox prospect Moncada trying to steal?
  3. I got one of those messages but didn't open it as it was obviously garbage. It has since been removed from my inbox.
  4. Your poll is fine. It simply includes the two ways to get rid of JBJ. Some are over analyzing.
  5. Being athletic doesn't mean being a good baseball player. Ask John Kruk.
  6. I can understand how Pearce's WS performance dazzled the FO into signing him. But as much as I loved how he helped the Sox win it all, I didn't really expect to see him back. Looking at his age and career track record, I just thought they were lucky to catch lightning in a bottle. It didn't really make sense to consider him part of the future. I was a bit more surprised that they didn't attempt to sign Kelly or Kimbrel, but I guess their philosophy is to save money on the bullpen, which can be more volatile as far as bang for the buck. The other signing that I think is kind of questionable is Eovaldi. He also dazzled in the playoffs, but his track record is iffy as well. He is more potential than results. So while I expected them to sign him, I wonder if the risk is too high. A case could be made that the money spent on Pearce and Eovaldi could have been used for other needs. But I don't claim to have better options, just wondering if the dazzling performances impacted the decision making too much.
  7. I wouldn't characterize his strikeout as imbecilic. What would you call Benintendi's strikeout looking with two strikes. You could argue he didn't protect the plate on a close pitch. Give the pitcher some credit. He has nasty stuff and was effectively wild.
  8. Sox need Swihart back for outfield depth.
  9. Devers has played at above replacement level for his career. A positive number is above replacement. And that is just a number on paper. It does not mean that a very specific player such as Dalbec can perform at replacement level just because he "replaces" Devers. It just means that in theory Devers is easier to replace if you find another MLB level player.
  10. The only thing lacking in the bullpen is a closer. But it appears that the approach this season has moved away from the traditional closer role. Don't know if this is by design or that the bullpen is seen as an area to keep salary costs down or a little of both.
  11. I don't want to trade Bradley. He is a proven elite level defensive MLB center fielder. That has nothing to do with Dalbec's ability to perform at the major league level. The only legitimate debate with Bradley is whether or not his defense makes up for his lack of offense. No question that his defense contributes toward winning games. But does his lack of offense contribute toward losing games?
  12. He is flat out stating that Devers is no better than a replacement level player at 3b. How will moving him to 1b change his value so dramatically? Is 1b a non defensive defensive position? And to be ready means to be ready. So it absolutely means Dalbec could be thrown out there at third now with no harm done to the team's ability to win games. That is the definition of replacement level.
  13. Dalbec has zero major league experience. I have no idea if he can perform at that level. Devers has a World Series ring and has proven he can contribute positively to a winning team. So there's that.
  14. And don't forget his strong starting performances in the ALDS and ALCS.
  15. And you know he is a ready replacement how?
  16. The suspense is killing me. When will notin flip over all the cards to reveal the name?
  17. Last years team found ways to win. This years team finds ways to lose. I have yet to see reason for optimism.
  18. Good thing you used pencil. Keep an eraser handy.
  19. I regretfully agree. His style of play combined with this kind of injury is a lethal combination.
  20. I don't know anything about those other pitchers. I do know that Sale has not been the same since July of last season.
  21. Exactly. If Betts is truly a superstar, where he hits should not hurt his performance. His big payday depends on him, not where Cora pencils him in in the batting order.
  22. I think Sandy is an above average MLB defensive catcher. But even so, the catcher has limited impact on pitching performance.
  23. It's not just about velocity. Shutting him down can give him a chance to figure things out. Sox are going nowhere this season. You can't win 'em all.
  24. I totally agree with this. I was worried about Sale all off season. Something is not right with him.
