  1. Too much "K" pitching. Lefty Grove threw as hard as any pitcger in that era. Look at his 1931 stats (brfore e hurt his shoulder)'''' Record 31-4 IP 289 K 178 (not as many as you thought, right?) BB 64 ERA 2.04 and he gave up ONE HOME RUN the entire friggen year!! After returning to "form",Lefty threw as hard as ever BT, about 30 fastballs/game. Slow doen, Chris. Trying throwing a game using about 30 fasballs. Drop the change up to about 85 Stop being a thrower, and learn how to PITCH
  2. Get this bum outta there before he hurts himself!
  3. The best ever! And I saw Foxx, Cronin, Williams, Doerr, Clemens, Yaz and on and on. None compare s a complete team. It's impossible to compare palayer from the 30s and 6s- with those of today. But you CAN compare the full squad.
  4. First time I can remember tha I turned offf a TV game and switched over to the WEEI radio. THOSE ANNOUNCERS ARE THE WORST I HAVE EVER HEARD!
  5. "Impressed" is putting it mildly. We made a quantum leap in going from one of the worst managers ever, to the best ever.I am also on the verge of calling the team, "Best Ever".Every player on this team is pulling for every other player. Tip and advise are allover the place. Guys come on from nowhere and hit consecutive slams. A pitcher who was VG, at one time with the Rays, comes in and looks like Dizzy Dean. Only major question: What happens to Pedroia? Any guesses out there?
  6. Looks to me like this kid believes in the old-time pitecher's code: Let the f***er Fly! Love that full release.
  7. Playoff team? Playoff tea,? He's making a move to become the No. 1 catcher!
  8. And I don't meanf or number TWO catcher. His with-hittin capability may give hime the edge. He is cartainly a different catcher than he was two years ago!
  9. Is there a law says we can't have a good lefty or two in thebullpen?
  10. Cora is the first baseball manager inhistory to recognine the length of the season. Even with Devers on the DL, he rest Xander. This team was a physical mess in September every year (to say nothing of October!. I can't think of a player on this squad who hasn't improved over last year Who would have imagined Swihart as a member of this squad 3 months ago? And certainly not an IMPORTANT part of the team!
  11. Sitting in the 3rd base stands about 1/2 way to the fence. The Red;s catcher, Ernie Lombardi (6'3" 230 lbs laces on a little over the 3rd baseman's head, and it hits the wall on one bounce. About 40 or 50 kids couldn't believe a line drive stay in the air that long. Of course we were young and impressionable. But how did it stay hidden in my memory box until Devers hit that home run last nigght? I guess both were historic.
  12. It is easier to critique than to praise. Who said that? I did, just now. Actually it should be the other way around. I've almost missed hammering John Farrell, but now that we've gone from the worst manager in baseball to the best, I'll jst troll along happily and watch the games.-
  13. Pomeranze) When does Wright get back!
  14. Anybody watching this dance via the tiger;s TV broadcast? Analyst mumbles, drone alomg saying little or nothing. Play by Play guy getos a word in now and then while the drpner drones on. Lousiest game of the year anyway; time for beQThe Droner is Kirk Gibson.
  15. Whoa! Are we watching Mookie revertto the 2017 Mookie? Taking down the middle strike 1 and down the mddle strike2? Mookiw, wake up!
  16. I'd bet a dollar (maybe even 2) that Mookie has picked up on Ted's well known mantra: Wait-Wait-Wait-Quick-Quick-Quick (these damn fonts are getting smaller and smaller every day).
  17. I can't believe David Price tonight! I was ready to send him to the pen for a little long relisf! He just plunked a guy so I'm gglad we HAVE a bullpen! Nice gong, David!
  18. Thank you. I was lucky. Not everyone gets to see the world for free! Re/Ted & Mookie. Here's a little story some of oyou have heard. I hope not
  19. I was in Burmaa from late 1944 to mid February of 1945. The next 6 months were spent in Kunming, Chian andSept to Decemb (post-war) were spent in Shanghai. Now THAT was really tough duty!
  20. I can't compare apples and oranges, but if we were talking similarities, knowing the differences in 50 lbs of one and 25 lbs off the other would help.
  21. You've made my day! My publisger, Jenn (Spidr Books) is now selling insurance! Amazon must be giving them away by now.My BIO was more topical now that everyoe is having good-bye parties for us WW2 Vets. Breaking that down (it was in parts, like, 1 1943, the year at BC during the ASTP program 2.1845 a year in Curma and China 3, 1946 to 1948 Two years in post-war Germnay (or, pre-Sold War Germany. Amazon probably giving that one away as well. Thank you, again!!! PS Now living at Barkley Place (should be Barkley Palace) in Ft Myers. Stop by. Apt 338. It's near the corner of Colonial and Sunnerlin---in case you've been here before!,
  22. Anpther Williams-Betts comp. Man on 1st two out, walk Mookie, put a runner in scoring position. Common place w/Ted. Mookie joins a very exclusive club.
  23. I hope you note the number of games played by Betts (75) and Ted (150). makes the comparison a little more valid.
  24. Thank you Thank you! In one pf my 3 (non-selling) books is a poem called, :The Corner of edford and Sycamore" (Winter Hill, Somerville). Describes the aftermoon action when the Daily Recod truck came by, the kid tossed out the papers, and the common cry was, "How'd the Sox do today?" and "Did Foxx hit one today?" Odd part was the scores on the back sheet might be (midd;e of the 6th" or "end pf the 8th" (with the score tied! Drug store on one corner, and a"broken down variety store on another vorner. The papers were fropped off at the drug store!
