  1. The wheel is broken. Pitchers can no longer go even close to 200 innings. Price was a whi bang until October ame around, And what is his post season record? Lousy. This whole thing (the history) can proably be traced back to Carl Hubbell and his screw bal. Mariano R. was almost always good for an inning only. Ever wonder why? And where do wheels belong in a conversation about pitcher;s and their arm problems?
  2. U have a feeling he'd love to manage here! He's got my vote. Maybe he can convine Ortiz he should come on board as the new bench coach!
  3. Just a note: Ron Guidry eas credited with being the first to master the slider in 1978. That year he had a rediculous record (25-3 or somethning like hat). In 1981 he started to have arm problems. Teg Williams once told someon he got out just in time--before everyone started throwing the slider.
  4. and how many pitchers featured a slider in 1970? Zero!!
  5. Statistically, about 25 % fewer startes. Actually,, very few. He might still have a strong arm come October! You can't get along these days without a slider. Guys that go out there and throw 98 mph with 1/2 of them sliders can log foreard to being a "David Price case".By Ocober this season it was mainly relief pitchers throwing that hard.
  6. Nobody knew it them (except maybe Ted Williams) but the adven of th slider signaled more pitching problems, Especially late in the season. That is getting worse every year. Ask any of the Sox staff. But that would be management's style, would it?
  7. Yes. Very early in his first season, NESN caught him his box sipping a glass of what was obviously wine. Well, it was in a wine glass. They cut away as quickly as they could, but I didn't like what I saw. BIGSHOTITIS. That was enough for me. Re/hispluses and minuses on the diamond? I don't know eaxactly where his authority begins and ends. He (or someone) made one helluva f***up when Lee was let go. 5 mil would have kept one of the best LH pitchers in baseball!
  8. The pre=w;; slamminmg swihart and the post-wll slamming Swihart is like apples an oranges. Not the same guy. I agree on the possibility of catcher improvement, but I am hopeful that they give another shot at LF. Good switch hitters are hard to find. Esp. those that seem to hit more or less the same from eith side.
  9. Who ever dreames that one up sgould be at least shot!
  10. QUOTE=moonslav59;1104509]Please. No Hosmer. Why? Are we talking another Lackey?
  11. Hereismy dream lineup for 2018 Nunez 2b Beni CF Betts RF Martinez LF Hismer 1B Devers 3B Moreland/Hanley DH Vasquez C Boegarts SS Case closed. Go get 'emmDD (it's not my money!?
  12. When a hitter gets in the box, I don't think they are concerned with overall strategy. The mgr puts the best he has in the lineup. They are supposed to MAKE CONTACT, not look for a BB. Altuve i, like TW or Joe D. is looking to make contact, and put a good swing on the ball. Low and away sliders do not fit. Most first pitches arefast balls or backdoor curves. and the pitchers do not want to go 1-0. Unfortunately, the dugout reaction to a ground out sending a man from 2nd to 3rd is like he hit a HR. Bulshit. A ground ball to 2B is not what he should be looking for.
  13. Nimbers show what they did. Not what they might have done
  14. How many time, during most any Sox game, in 2016, did you see Mookie sliding over to check with David Ortiz? Seconf full year" Hitting .300? And still needed Ortiz input? Tell me there's not a connection. In 2016 he looked confident taking apitch. In 2017 he looked futile after taking strike one!
  15. This has going on for two years! Doesm't matter who they are playing or who the pitcher is.
  16. I've neen wonderin now for about 2 years. Why does Altuve swing ata majority of first pitches and hit .350, wjile Mookie and Pedey manage to get the counts to 0-1 and1-2 and hit .260. Fo the Spx have a tean rule that says, "we make the pitchers work?? I thinl we need a new coaching staff. Carrying whips!
  17. I'm surprised they are not looking for our next, long term. second basemen.. It is obvious the mult-thousand belly flops have taken their toll.
  18. Hopefully they don't ruin Devers (a future super-star for sure), like they didSwihart, by moving him all over the lot. I trust that Dever;s fielding will improve enough so they can forget switching him around. He's not likely to become a Longoria in the field but he'll more than make up for it with his bat. I would like to see Swihart get one more shot. His switch hitting would seem to favor that one more shot.
  19. He's what is needed, a born leader. He has proven that from the day he arrived from the Twins, added to it with his CENTER FIELD SPEECH and right on through his unbelievable 2016 season. I'm not talking about key home runs, etc. I'm talking about his availablility to Bogaerts, Betts etc.. Was their 2017 performances due to the missing Ortiz. You can bet on it!!!
  20. And how many mangers wee never first time manages? How many were still playing? Durocher, Cronin, Boudreau, Durocher plua many other others. Ortiz is a leader. I suppose many have forgotten the Center Field Speech. He has been a leader in the clubhouse as well as off the field since coming over from the Twins! IF he would take the job, he would be perfest!
  21. Am I going blind in my right eye, too? Judge is 0-4 with 4 K's? Looking to be MVP?
  22. Anyone who doesn't speak with a heavy accent.
  23. Every manger has been a first time manager! You make it sound like brain surgery. Durocher, Cronin, Boudreau, Frisch were not only first time managers but PLAYER MANAGERS. IMO you are taking a short sighted view. Plus, how do you know he wouldn't want it? Has he been approached? I don't think so.
  24. I want Ortiz there. Pfereably as manager. We need someone who can teach AND has the authority. I've said this 100 times, and have had no response. You wanna see LIFE and ENERGY? Or another yankee!
  25. The noise was too lous, I expected it, but not this quick. I wonder if David would take the job? I doubt it, he seems content where he is. But what a manager that guy would make! No fancy oratory, just "how to;s)
