It might not matter much at all, but there is something about watching horrific defense that really gets under my skin. I'd enjoy watching an average fielding team more than the worst in MLB. I'm very keen on superb SS defense, so many I can get some small patches of satisfaction watching Story do his thing, despite losing more games than any of us would like to see. I think we may end up 8th to 12th on offense. I think we might end up finishing near average on defense. Our pen could be above average, if we don't tax it to death and use all our swingmen in the rotation, all year. Our rotation looks hideous, to me, but each of the 5 or 6 we have slotted there, now, have had some nice stretches, in recent years, so maybe everything might click, and we could actually enjoy watching our team, even if they win just 74-82 games. Maybe, we add someone, before opening day and 82-86 wins might seem achievable. (I'm not expecting it, but I have not lost every shred of hope, just yet.)

I was responding to a reply about HOU going for it, now, and trading Abreu would hurt their chances. Jansen would mitigate the loss of Abreu for 2024. We'd get 3 years of a very nice RP'er and a SP I like more than many, here. I'm not throwing anyone away. Maybe I could have used different terminology.

I agree. The reason we did not "save" $17M more was because we got a young & promising player with 6 years of control, who I'm sure the Sox believe is worth more or even way more than $17M. We'll see how well they valued Grissom. I do think the trade might look even better, if we actually spend the $10M we saved on someone we would otherwise not have signed. For example, if we were able to sign Gio at $19M, instead of Moore at $9M, then I like the deal, even more.

Eager if we can add a quality SP'er with the budget space. How many are eagerly wanting us to trade him away for prospects?

I'm thinking we might end up between 14th and 19th. Last year, we were near worst, if not THE worst.

The idea of trading Jansen away, is to clear budget space to sign a SP'er. If it's for lining henry's pockets, then I'm against trading him. BTW, his "trade value" is close to zero at $16M/1. If we can get 3 years of Abreu for 1 of Jansen and then sign a decent SP'er, we're a better team in 2024 and beyond. Take things in context- just once.

My point was that women are not even close to believed 50% of the time, let alone 100%, as you stated. Also, is it possible there was a crime committed, AND the woman tried to make some money off it and that could explain some of the texts we have read. Also, do we know those texts are 100% accurate and complete? No doubt, they look damning to the accuser, but we don't have all the facts, and never will. In these cases, I'm not sure anyone ever knows enough to make a final judgement, except those who were there.

I'd rather have 3 years of Abreu than 1 of Jansen. 4 years of Javier might be useless. I get that.

Women are not believed 100% of the time, or there would be more convictions than a tiny percent.

I do think most catchers are at their best, defensively, after age 28-29- some even post 30. I have some hopes, we see a step up at C and 1B. 3B is a dice roll on D.

While I agree, I can't see us not improving at 2B, even if Reyes has to take over. Story's health is pretty much a must do for us to have any chance. Yoshida at DH, more often has to be a plus to our OF D. To me, the more we see Rafaela and maybe Abreu in CF, instead of Duran the better our OF D will be. Corner IF and C relies on better seasons from returnees.

Duran might help them win, now, more than Abreu. We could throw in Jansen, too.

Yea, the two year thing scares me away. Same with Cease. BTV accepts Duran & Yorke for Framber, but no way does HOU say yes to that. I like McCormick (3 yrs), and he can play CF, but I doubt they swap him out for 5 yrs of Duran. They probably can't keep Bregman, Altuve & Tucker, but Tucker has only 2 years, too. 5 years of Duran for 3 of McCormick and 4 of Javier might be okay.

BTV has... 37 Yainer Diaz C 30 Chaz McCormick OF 19 B Abreu RP + 11 Melton OF prospect (I'd like to get Javier 3.1 SP added) 0.8 Urquiddy could be a throw in Duran is 34. I'd do McCormick & Javier or maybe Abreu, Melton & Javier (or Urquiddy) HOU will not give their catcher for Duran.

You said you agree with this, " Dude was proven innocent in a court of law." There was no court case. I'm not thinking he's guilty of anything illegal. We will probably never know all that happened with any degree of certainty, but he was not found guilty of anything, so I would not be upset with the team that signs him.

Kind of amazing that 3 of his top 4 GS seasons were at ages 41, 42 & 43.

He will likely get a 1 year deal, which could be something enticing to Sox brass.

I think only one poster mentioned Moore to fill our LH'd pen need.

Bauer does seem like a hot potato, but we are getting to the point, where we have to shoot in the dark and hope for someone to "regain" or "retool." I'm sick of doing that. Richards, Kluber and now, to some extent, even Giolito. I realize bauer is sort of the same thing, but at least it's not about his arm or abilities as a pitcher. If we don't get Monty or even Clevinger, Bauer would be my 2nd or 3rd pick out of what is left.

He also had better numbers than most others after 18 batters.
