    I doubt his trade value equals his upside potential value, so I don't disagree with you. This team is full of potential energy. We need kinetic energy. I can understand trading some potential, but it need not be and maybe should not be Mayer. If I knew Brez was going to add 2-3 solid infielders next winter, I'd feel better about trading Mayer, but we need to keep a couple from what we have now, at least.... maybe 3 (1-2 as utility.) Romy Durbin Mayer Monasterio, Seigler, Eaton, KC, Arias (mid summer 2027 call-up?)

    I'm not sure they expected them to be great out of the gate. Certainly KC was being counted on for 2026. Nobody expected the squat we've gotten from Roman and Mayer in 2026. We might have been okay with a .780 Anthony and .720 Mayer as FT'ers in 2026.

    Who is the F'd up GM who signed this doofus Primera? 2 HRs today, 3 for 4 and a 1.410 OPS over almost 110 PAs! How about the DSL Red team? Outhit 14-4, but they won 15-13!!! They drew 17 BBs, including 5 by their leadoff hitter! DSL Blue lost 7-2. Zeihl pitched well for POR 9Ks and 0 BB in 5 IP (4H and 2 ER) Liendo homered and Taylor has 2 hits. Sea Dogs up 6-2 into the 9th. Bello is pitching for Woo and is in the 5th (6H, 3 ER, 1BB, 5Ks) Seigler has 2 hits in a 3-3 game.

    I'm close, but trades rarely happen in June, so I'll wait to see what things look like in July. Also, the AL sucks like never before. If the deadline was today, I'd trade every player not controlled through 2027 plus Duran. I'd listen to offers on 2-3 year players. I'd look at aging or overpaid players, of course, but doubt anyone will be calling about Story and Yoshida.

    I'm not sure where you read I want to trade Willson. I don't. I said I'd take equal value with longer control years. You wouldn't? I said I'd take greater return value. You wouldn't?

    Looking at the possible 2027 roster might provide clues at what we trade for. Assuming Gray and IKF are gone, we are looking at this roster. (Rule 5 adds might be 1 or 2 from Jo Garcia, Paez or Mullins) SP: Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Early, Crawford/Oviedo RP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Houck, Bello, Bennett, Moran, Weissert/Kelly/Watson/Samaniego C: ______ Narvaez/Wong/Gasper 1B: Contreras (Romy) Casas? 2B: _____ Romy/Mayer(KC?) SS: _____ Mayer/Story/Arias 3B: _____ Durbin/Mayer LF: Duran/Anthony CF: Rafaela RF: Abreu DH: Anthony/Duran/Yoshida If we trade Duran, we'd have an opening at DH/LF. I doubt we convert all the SP'ers to RP'ers I mentioned, here, so we will likely need to add 1-2 solid RP'er. Highest 5 need areas: 1. Big bat* (any position, but likely not CF, 1B or RF) 2. Big bat* (not 1B or CF/RF, unless moved to LF or DH) * SS * 2B or 3B * Catcher 4. RP 5. RP

    I doubt the Sox have had more major injuries than most other teams, especially with everyday players, but here is a breakdown of the ones we have had: Anthony: missed 40 games and counting Romy has missed all 72 games and counting 4 SP'ers essentially missed the whole season, so far. Houck, Crawford, Sandoval: all 72 games (13 GS) and counting. Oviedo started no games and wnt on the IL after 3 IP. Crochet: 7 GS and counting. All-in-all, we've missed over 45-50 GS out of 72 games from our top 7-8 Sp'ers, when healthy. The pen has been rather healthy, except for Slaten and some scattered games missed by others.

    True, and while they might not assign a number value to every player in MLB, they do have their ways for assigning and comparing them. Of course team needs and budgets have roles, too.

    I seriously doubt any do. The next questions are: 1. "Who do we have better than him?" 2. "Is his trade value now worth more than his (speculative) upside value to us later?" #1 answer: I doubt we add 3 non-1B infielders by opening day 2027, so that has to be part of the equation: Durbin, Romy, Mayer, Story, Monasterio, Seigler, Eaton, KC, Cheng and prospect Arias. We will also need 2-3 utility and infield depth players on the 2027 roster. #2 answer: Sox management might already know his current trade value, but the upside value to us is unknown. Even if we add two major infielders, would you rather have the third and 4th ones be Durbin/Romy with Monasterio as the depth of Mayer fit in their somewhere? (Note: one of the two infielders added would have to be a SS, since Durbin & Romy are not SSs.)

    All great points. The money and years of control matter a lot to BTV, but in reality, it matters to many teams, too. Half the teams might not trade for Crochet due to their budgets, so there is an aspect of truth to BTV's flawed set-up. Many teams would rather have Romy than the expensive Chapman+ Willson, especially teams already out of it and or on tight budgets. That is part of the reality of trades, too.

    I'm always doubtful of setting starting points, despite doing it myself. Certainly 1967 marked the change of an era- a long and painful era. I wasn't a baseball fan until 1970 and a Sox fan starting in 1974, so 1967 has less meaning to me than many older fans, here. We've had some bad teams since 1974, and record wise this is the worst or second worst, but on paper, I'm not sure it's much different from the other last place teams. Call it the worst? Okay with me.

    I agree, and it's significantly lower than BTV's take. He's a good defender, but we need offense.

    Most of us realize BTV has some serious flaws, but I ask which of these groups of players are the most overvalued and undervalued? Group A: 73 Rafaela, 66 Tolle, 54 Arias, 39 Suarez, 38 Mayer, 35 Abreu, 34 Early. (My choices: Mayer over/Abreu under) Group B: 24 Eyanson, 23 Anthony, 18 Crochet, 17 Narvaez & Soto, 16 Duran (Duran over/Crochet under) Group C: 15 Gonzales & Azocar, 14 Durbin, 12 Witherspoon, 11 Romy, 10 Valera (Durbin over/Azocar under) Group notables: 9 Godbout, 8 Contreras, 4 Chapman, 3 Whitlock, 2 Wong, 0 IKF, Oviedo, Moraan, Watson (Wong over/Chapman under) Group Negatives: -1 Casas, -2 Crawford, Houck & Gray, -5 Sandoval & KC, -22 Bello, -26 Yoshida, -39 Story (Casas & Sandoval over/Gray & Crawford under)
