Yes, these options only look interesting if we trade someone from the 26. We will likely be adding an infielder, so the need for a platoon beyond Romy might still be questionable.

Romy rakes against LHPs. How many slots are we platooning? Be specific. I guess we may choose to platoon Masa with Romy at DH, but we also have Campbell, if needed at DH. (It might be his best position... LOL) Now, if we don't add anyone, Romy may platoon w DHam at 3B and Mayer plays FT at 3B. You wanna platoon Mayer with Andujar? Is there room for DHam, then? We only get 4 subs and one is a catcher and one is an OF'er. Romy-DHAM plus ____?

It wasn't a whole new situation in terms of where each of the two teams had the biggest need: 1B. We went out and got Nate Lowe, so thinking Cora was fine with Toro at 1B may be true, but that doesn't mean we had no need there.

We won't get both. I doubt we get one. Romy can platoon at 2B and maybe 3B. We don't need to platoon Masa.

They very well might think some combo of Romy-DHam-KC will be "good enough" to cover 2B and also maybe platoon with Mayer at 3B (Eaton in that mix?) It's not a horrible idea in isolation, but when you look at the lost 1150 PAs from 2025 from our top batters, where else can we make up some ground. Fine, say Anthony will get 300 more PAs and Contreras will outhit Toro, but is that enough? I think many of us don't think so. We're not getting KMarte. The best players we might get are Paredes, Hoerner, Shaw of Donovan. If someone has a 5th player, let us know.

I actually thought we could manage with him at 1B, until we needed a DH, and with an OF'er trade, that could happen, despite Masa still being on the 40. (Masa has 2 years left.) Playing some 1B could happen, too, but Contreras has 2 years + an option year. We'd have a better offense with Suarez at 3B not DH.

We had a 3Bman, too- and a DH, but no 1Bman. Not much difference from SFG.

E Suarez would certainly have given us the RH Power bat we seek, but I'm not sure the rest of his portfolio fit us very well. I wanted ES more a couple months ago, and I still think at that price he'd have been a nice get, but maybe we still get someone. Hearing here in HOU that the Sox won't give Wilyer for Paredes and an add on. They suggest maybe B Abreu, but that's too much of a money add for JH to okay. I still think Wilyer for Paredes and B King gives both teams what they need.

He's really a DH, though.

Romy should have the inside edge, especially since he hit RHPs about as well as DHam does. Maybe Romy-DHam. Maybe K Campbell. Maybe Rafaela to clear the OF logjam. I still think Brez is working the phone and has some deals that just need him to say yes to, and he's either trying to improve the trade or decide on which one is best. Yes, speculation, but we now have two open roster slots and no AAA guys looking to deserve a promotion before we need to.

To me, our best and most possible options might be (in my order) 1. Paredes RHB 2 yrs (12.9 BTV) 2. Matt Shaw RHB 5 yrs (40.9) 3. Brendon Donovan 2 yrs (30.7) or Brett Baty LHB 4 yrs (21.9) Others: Nico Hoerner 1 yr (18.1) or Mark Vientos 4 yrs (15.5) I feel like I'm missing someone.

Of course nobody wants to undo that trade. Yes, maybe Meidroth was a high demand by the CWS. I'd do it again and again.

If we end up with someone uninspiring, this should and will come back on Brez, unless Suarez sucks. I also look back at the Polanco signing- another affordable gamble. One will wonder if he'd take $17M/1 of $16N x 2 from BOS. Maybe $17M with deferments.

Not sure how this matters. It could be (I'm not going to speculate) that the AAV and tax line was what mattered most. I think the AAV for Range came out about teh same as the Bregman offer with deferments. I'm not sure about that, but if true, it kinda supports the theory that the tax line mattered. Again, I'm not sure, so I'm holding off signing blame until we know, and even if we find out Brez could have given the NTC and or offered a higher AAV or total amount and he refused to, then blame away. I'm still thinking that this is all part of the cat & mouse game of negotiations, where bluffing or not bluffing happens a lot. If you want to blame someone for misjudging a bluff, that's another debate, too. If Brez bungled it, of course it is concerning, It should be. I've never said otherwise. IMO, if was ever going to bungle a negotiation, I'm glad it was this one, since I'd rather have Suarez. The Alonso offer was not even close, and I wanted him. I'd be thinking a little differently if this was all about losing out on my plan A. Yes, I still wonder and worry about Brez'z ability to land the guys we want. I'm just not blaming him for this one without those key facts about the NTC, deferments and top dollar limits (or no limits.) You can't or won't even acknowledge that position has merit. Instead you claim my position is based on speculation, when my whole point is I'm not going to blame anyone yet, based on speculation and unknow facts.
