  1. At his point, just total punt. Fire sale ASAP.
  2. and even Brasier.
  3. I'm not sure how easy it would be to dig up the numbers- like what are the numbers of the top 30 fWAR pitchers vs the Sox, then 31-60, 61-90, 91-120, 121-150.
  4. Why do we keep adding people that are clearly high?
  5. He said depth, not our #1/2 slot SP'er. Last season, we started the year with Whitlock, Paxton, Bello, Joely & MIlls on the IL. Kelly joined them. Let's say this was our all healthy 13 in 2023, on opening day, and the depth: 13: Kluber, Sale, Paxton, Bello, Pivetta Jansen, Martin, Whitlock, Houck, Crawford, Schreiber, Bleier, Brasier Depth (as seen on opening day): Winckowski, Joely, Ort, Murphy, Walter, Jacques, Llovera, Garza, Sherriff (Bernardino, Weiss, Dermody, Bearclaw, Robertson & otherswere added mid season) That is awful pitching depth. This year's "all healthy" 13: Giolito, Bello, Pivetta, Crawford, Houck Jansen, Martin, Whitlock, Winckowski, Bernardino, Hendriks, Slaten (Rule 5 limited), Mata (out of options) Depth: Murphy, Criswell, Fitts, Walter, Gambrell (Wikelman?) Campbell, Weissert, Joely, Kelly, Luetge, Guerrero, Hagenman, Politi, German, Song, Jacques, Booser This may not look grat, but it looks like a significant improvement over last year.
  6. Hendriks will surely be added to the 60 day IL, at some point, so one slot will open there. Hopefully for Monty, Clevinger or at least Lauer, but even if not, it won't be for Sogard. Also, by the end of ST'ing Sogard might be at a .650 OPS and forgotten.
  7. With no evidence to back this up, it seemed like we also held our own vs the best SP'ers and did poorer than expected v unknown or 4/5 slot pitchers.
  8. I hope so. We should be able to beat OAK and LAA, anywhere. If we are going to do anything, this year, winning games like these should be expected. We have had a good west coast trip, in the last few years, and several so-so ones. 2023 4-5 v SDP, LAA & AZ (0-3 v LAA) 1-2 v OAK after playing at CWS 3-3 v SEA & SFG (I can't remember west coast trips ever being divided into 3, before, but playing SFG, SDP & AZ is not common.) 2022 8-2 v OAK (3-0), LAA (won first 3 then lost 4th), 2-1 v SEA (including a heartbreaking 7-6 loss as Robles blew the 9th inning save.) 2021 3-3 v OAK & LAA 2-1 v SEA after playing at CWS We opened the 2019 season on an 11 game western trip: 3-8 1-3 @ SEA 1-3 @ OAK 1-2 @ AZ And the rest was history.
  9. There are others in the system and in MLB that need less "fixing."
  10. He should be #1 on the DFA list, but we often get this wrong. I'd add 5-10 others before I add Sogard, and that's not even including picking up someone cut from another team or signing a FA.
  11. Just cut the cord.
  12. Rafaela with a dinger in the 2-1 loss, today. Wink with the start: 2.2 IP 2 H 1 ER 0 BB 2 K Jacques let up the winning run. Hopefully we never see him, this season. Campbell 1.1 IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 1K Hagenman 1.1, 0, 0, 1, 1 Joely 1.0, 1, 0, 0, 1 Politi 1.0, 0, 0, 2, 1
  13. RIP U.L. Washington.
  14. Yes, one is the Carolina Confederates & the other is the California Homeless Hobos.
  15. Sonny Gray to get an MRI. BorA$$ says new teams have reached out on Snell & Monty, since ST'ing began.
  16. Soft, except we usually suck on left coast trips, but yes.
  17. Next year, the Phillies will have 5 players making over $23.8M a year. They have 8 over $18M, now.
  18. Wheeler signs extension for $126M/3 ($42M x 3 years!)
  19. Quarter throttle!
  20. Agreed, and I doubt we go out of our way to add Sogard to the 40, even if Grissom goes on the 60 day IL. We already have Reyes, E Valdez and DHam on the 40. Yorke and Sogard are both Rule 5 eligible, this winter, so pre-empting their addition, at some point, could happen, but not now. I think they want to see what EValdez can do, first.
  21. I don't either. It's like they realize they have a shortage of decent SP'ers in their system, so they want to throw them all against the wall to see which 4-5 will stick. In the process, they may end up messing up some guys who have seemingly found a comfortable nitche as long men or 1-2 IP set-up guys. One really good reason to sign Monty is to avoid doing this, but the Sox FO likely views this as a reason not to sign Monty.
  22. I really hate the day off, 2 game series, then day off crap. It does not help the rotation as much as having 5-6 games between days off.
  23. Starting off the season on the left coast will be a challenge. It seems like coming out of the gate doing well, often sets the tone for the season and helps build confidence. After the road trip, the schedule does look a little easier for 3-4 weeks... @ SEA 3 @OAK 3 Day Off @LAA 3 Day Off BAL 3 LAA 3 CLE 4 @PIT 3 Day Off @CLE 3 CHC 3 Day Off SFG 3 @MIN 3 Day Off @ ATL 2 Day Off WSH 3 Then some tough games... 10 gms out of 16 v TBR & BAL.
  24. That does seem like the biggest stumbling block, but I do think there is room for both. Do any of us really expect Crawford, Whitlock and Houck to start 32 games and go 170+ IP? I seriously doubt any would do this, even if 100% healthy and open slots for all. There will surely be injuries, and if not, we could trade Giolito or Pivetta, at the deadline, if there is no room for 6-7 SP'ers who are all looking good. GS 31 Monty 31 Giolito 30 Bello 25 Crawford 23 Whitlock 22 Houck Anyone gets hurt, and we may need Wink to start some.
  25. I actually like our odds, the longer this drags out.
