  1. It looks that way! Over 10% of MLBs top 270 batters are under .590.
  2. Tge biggest HR of the season?
  3. If he doesn’t work out, yes the deal sucked. Since we did not spend the $10M saved on Sale, it is even worse. I suppose we can do mental gymnastics and say we got O’Neill and Hendriks for $10M, but we cut salary from 2023, so I don’t see it that way. Okay, maybe it allowed Brez to sign Gio, but that is no feather in the cap either. That being said, I think the general consensus of baseball people thought Grissom was better than a middle of the road prospect or young MLB player. It’s okay to bash the trade without changing this fact.
  4. Almost every ranking system had Grissom way ahead of DHam, Romy, Valdez, Yorke and Mayer was not ML ready to start 2024. Mayer is also going to play SS, not 2B. Grissom has sucked in a small sample size. He was not good in a larger one last year, but let’s not say we had better looking 2Bmen in February 2024.
  5. That was my point. Not 1B, unless you think Casas is toast. Not DH as we have Ref for the platoon DH slot. Not catcher or 3B. We could swap a lefty OF bay for a righty to go along with O’Neil and Rafaela, but we aren’t benching Duran for an all righty OF. (Yes, Rafaela could play SS FT to make it happen, and Romy/DHam split time at 2B. That leaves 2B or SS for a big righty bat who is not a negative on D. Name names or suggest an OF swap. Nobody wants Duran traded anymore, so it would have to be Abreu. Interesting how the two guys perhaps most expendable are Aubrey and Valdez.
  6. I don’t disagree but we had bad D and bad O for years.
  7. It was actually worse the last 2-3 or even 4 years. Roomy, DHam and Rafaela are doing better, but we still could use help. Any ideas on a big RH bat that plays MI and is on the block?
  8. I could see 1-7 and 8-20 or so. I included Fitts due to our shortage of healthy farm arm prospects. I’d trade Fitts and a couple 9-30 guys for a pitcher, even a very good rental. I would not trade 1-7 for any rental.
  9. Look at the list. Big gap after KCampbell and Perales.
  10. Out of the top 270 MLB players by PA, .678 marks the top of the bottom 1/3 OPS (bottom 90 players.) .650 is the 204th player out of 270. That is right at the bottom 25% line. I’d say the new Mendoza line might be below .650, today. Bogey, at .581 is about at the bottom 10% line, as of now. It looks like we did well not to extend Bogey at over $200M/ 7 or 8, let alone near what SDP paid!
  11. Rafaela is dangerously close to the .700 mark! Is .650 the new Mendoza line?
  12. Does a single person actually believe Grissom’s sample size is big enough to know what kind of player he will end up being? I realize that the 2023-2024 sample size is somewhat significant, but even so, nobody knows how good or bad he will be. Granted, I am more concerned than I was in February, but the way DHam and Romy are playing, it is less of an issue.
  13. Woke up to an impressive box score. Are we all having fun, yet?
  14. I’m more worried about HOU than KCR and maybe even NYY. We have yet to play them, and those may be make or break series for both teams.
  15. I dont think anyone said he was a sure bet, but 2B has been ranked 29-30th in many categories for3-4 years. Certainly, trying to fix the problem with a guy who had more hope than anyone else on the team made some sense. Let’s see how he does in the next 5 years.
  16. He’s as much a break out as Meidroth.
  17. We may swap a lefty bat for a righty one, but so seriously doubt we trade even a top 9-20 prospect for offense. We need SP help way, way, WAY more than anything else. Our best pitchers are already nearing or passing their career high IP totals, and we are not even half way through July! IMO, we won’t trade a top 8 prospect and may not trade a 9-20, either.
  18. I doubt we sign Gio had we kept Sale, and JH refused to adjust the budget after Gio’s injury. Here is my take on our SPer depth for2024| 1. Gioliti IL 2. Bello 3. Crawford 4. Whitlock IL 5. Pivetta 6. Houck 7. Criswell (rehab) 8. Winckowski 9. Mate (rehab) 10. Murphy IL, Walter IL, Anderson Gambrell, Alexander,Fitts, Hagenman
  19. Let’s just concentrate on a decent SPer, and kick the tires on longer controlled ones, first. Worst case: we can get a decent SPer for a couple prospects ranked below 9 or 10th.
  20. How the hell did he age that quickly?
  21. Signing Giolito was Hiroshima. Trading Sale was Nagasaki
  22. It’s hard to tell, and I know that sounds like a cop out. He looks great, at times, then makes an easy play look hard. I think the good to great plays far outnumber the bad ones, but the metrics don’t support that view. He’s such a great CFer, I’m not sure why we should give him a long look at SS, unless it’s an emergency, like now.
  23. OPS Against last 4 weeks; .421 Martin, back on the IL .481 Jansen, rumours of being over the hill were false .494Criswell, ready to return to rotation .503 Kelly, a pleasant surprise .558 Booser, the feel good story .569 Slaten, despite a melt down game .654 Crawford, now our hot starter .670 Horn, for real? .696 Keller, decent depth inAAA .727 Wink, despite bad last start .747 Houck with one bad start .759 Anderson, ok until last game .833 Pivetta, needs to get consistent .865 Bello, cannot string together multiple good starts .908 Weissert and .949 Bernardino, hopefully can turn it around
  24. Last4 weeks OPS 1.059 Devers, yes forevers! .933 Rafaela, yes, he can hit! .907 O’Neill, yes, April was no fool. .906 Romy, yes, yes, yes! .894 Valdez, yes he should stay over VG! .878 Duran, yes, this is who he is! .706 Wong, yes, he’s a keeper! .693 Refsnyder, yes, he should start vs every LHP. .653 Smith, yes 653 is oodles better than Dalbec/Cooper. .611 DHam, yes the 10 SB helps. .591 Yoshida, yes he’s over .800 last 11 games. .519 McGuire, yes, he needs to heat up. .468 Abreu, yes, he is streaky.
