  1. EValdez was one of the minor leagues top hitters for a sizable stretch with HOU. This may not be a fluke. He also did not look as awful on D as he did in '23.
  2. I think more. Look what we got for Vaz. Of course, I'm assuming both Pivetta & Jansen continue doing well and stay healthy. I think Pivetta gets us 4-7 prospect, depending on how good the farm is. I think Jansen gets about the same, especially if a team is desperate for a closer. O'Neill and Martin might not get much, unless they inpressin the next 6-7 weeks.
  3. We really cannot go into 2025 wishing upon the injury free star. We cannot go into 2025 needing 90% of our "what ifs" to come up positive. Again, I'm expecting nothing more than more O'Neills and Criswells, at best, but I really feel like we are just 3 major additions from being a very strong contender. I know, I know, three major players is a lot, and perhaps most current, non-contending teams could say the same. Perhaps 2 would be enough, but adding 3 would be ideal. We lose the salaries of Sale, Jansen, Martin, Pivetta and O'Neill. cots has us $106M under the tax line for '25. I could be wrong, but I think we could spend this much and still be under the tax line: $25M SP2 $25M SP3 $15M Closer $10M RHB DH (1B?) $10M SS (depth) Asking for 3 is not all that hard. (I'm not expecting even 1 of these.)
  4. They have carried the ML team, so yes. Even guys like DHam, Romy and Kelly have done pretty well. Our big 3 are holding their own. We've seen big jumps from Perales, K Campbell and Lugo. Hard to be unhappy. Abreu Rafaela Slaten Hell, even EValdez is starting to wake up.
  5. While O'Neill has spent too much time on the IL, I don't think we are missing Robertson and Santos all that much. While I Campbell has not impressed, his future is brighter than Urias, who is at .580 and loses team control in 4 months. Don't look now, but guess who is 1-2 with a 4.28 ERA in his last 3 starts? (Still better than Gio, Crawford, Bello and Criswell over the same timeframe.)
  6. What can we realistically get for Pivetta & Jansen? We could maybe add O'Neill and Martin, if they are showing value, or even McGuire, if a team needs a catcher or back-up catcher. Maybe a package of Pivetta, Jansen and McGuire can get us a decent ML ready prospect or two.
  7. Maybe a carry on in his right hand, only.
  8. PLus, the point was about who "earned a slot" not who fans will vote for. Duran, Devers, Houck and Slaten have "earned" a slot, so far. Wong is #2 in fWAR for AL Catchers. He might deserve a slot. 3-4 good starts by Crawford puts him in the "earned" mix.
  9. Double-A Portland placed Perales on its 7-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation Sunday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
  10. Hendriks is supposed to pitch in August 2024. Maybe he meant Fulmer, who does fit with Murphy.
  11. Yoshida played, last night... with Woo.
  12. I get it. Good one. We'll be lucky if we guess right on a Lorenzen type signing and another O'Neill type who maybe stays healthy.
  13. Not at all. I expect we add no SP'er. I want 2. Big difference.
  14. Nobody but our delusional FO will buy this plan.
  15. No doubt. His speed does not help on D.
  16. I totally agree. We need to add 2 solid SP'ers. No injury rehabs. No hopes for returns to former glory. We need two proven and durable SP'ers. (Of course even durable, solid SP'ers can decline of get hurt, at any given moment, but we have to try. The thing is, it's long odds we even add one.
  17. Maybe. To me, he should be below #20 or even 30.
  18. We could sure use a big RHB in the bigs.
  19. It is nice to see, but rather a small sample size.
  20. Indeed. Team and division strength goes up and down. Those Sox teams were very good to excellent. The weaker division does not change that all that much, just as the recent Sox crappy records in tougher divisions doesn't change things a whole lot. 2016 Sox 1.021 Papi .897 Betts .866 HRam (1B) .845 Leon .835 JBJ .825 Pedey .802 Bogey .726 Shaw (3B) .705 Holt/.850 Young/.835 Beni (LF) 3.15 Cy Porcello (33 GS) 3.40 FIP 3.33 Wright (24 GS) 3.77 3.99 Price (35 GS) 3.60 Buch, ERod and Pom were between 4.60 and 4.80 Kimbrel 31 saves 2.92 FIP The 2017 Sox saw significant dips in vet OPS and had no Papi, but they added Sale 2.90 Sale (32) 2.45 3.32 Pom (32) 3.84 3.38 Price (11) 3.64 4.19 ERod (24) 3.97 4.56 Porc (33) 4.60 1.43 Kimbrel 1.42 FIP
  21. Is DHam for real? If yes, what a nice surprise! MLB.com: David Hamilton hits home run in Red Sox win against White Sox WWW.MLB.COM CHICAGO -- A typically even-keeled David Hamilton showed a bit of emotion when he reached second base in the ninth inning Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field, emphatically clapping his hands. The Red Sox were down 4-3 when Hamilton led off the ninth with that double. 22. Those Sox teams were very good, despite the early playoff exits, but the division was weaker than it was afterwards.
  23. BTV is sometimes slow on updating shooting stars like Crochet. My guess is it would take a top 3 plus 2 from Bleis, Perales or Cespedes & Fitts.
