  1. To fire back, "We have new leadership, now" is kinda in your face. They should have spoken to Raffy while in talks with Bregman, but I guess if the idea was they were going to move him, no matter what he wants, maybe it's not such a big deal. I don't see Devers pouting or demanding a trade over this, but stranger things have happened.
  2. How many "best employees" lead the industry in mistakes made on the job? Then, have that employee say "How dare you try to move me to a new position where mistakes are impossible to make?"
  3. I'm hopeful, Devers will hear all the banter and come around to seeing what is best for the team. Lost in all this is the fact that Bregman has been around as long as Devers and has pride, too. He earned the pride in his defense at 3B. If this wasn't about a near best defensive 3Bman vs a near worst defensive 3Bman, maybe the choice would be murkier, but Bregman at 3B clearly makes us better. If we have to start factoring in how much a pouting Devers might hurt the team, then we find something out about Devers. This should never be part of the equation, but Devers has made it one. I'm sure Cora (and maybe Brez) will have a sit-down to try and convince Devers what is best for the team, and maybe try to get him to try a 1Bman's mitt, if he really hates DH, so much. I'm hopeful, Raffy comes around. He does not seem like the pouting type or a super egomaniac. The part that got me is when he said he felt he was a good fielder, last year. "Good" vs what? High school or college? We should not have to force feed Campbell into the OF, either. There is more to this than just Raffy vs Bregman at 3B.
  4. We have a ton of arms coming into ST'ing. Some have low levels of promise, but others have moderate to higher levels. I like the idea of keeping the ones that look good in March. Let's not force ourselves into a Luis Garcia, Lucas Sims, Rich Hill and James Paxton situation in 2025. (not to mention Brad keller, Bailey Horn and others.)
  5. I'm assuming, after this trade, we'd trade 2 from our 12 SP'ers for something else. Devers and Yoshida for Gilbert or Kirby and Haniger. (Maybe we could throw in some cash.)
  6. If the medical staff knew about this, checked it out, and determined he did not need surgery, I have no issues. If not, there's sum 'splainin' to do.
  7. Maybe, after a few days, we'll hear a new position from Raffy.
  8. He was on his way to a career best OPS in '24, before the injury, and maybe they figure inflation.
  9. So, he's owed about $32M per year and worth about $34.5M/yr.
  10. 11. There are examples of winning without a top closer, but with the Sox... Foulke Papelbon Uehara Kimbrel
  12. I like the 4 set-up men more than the 3, with one closing. I also think it takes a special kind of pitchers to handle getting that last out of the game, even if it is vs the 9 guy not the #2 or 4 guy.
  13. Agreed. There are parts I felt, "uh-oh," but others it seemed like he was not going to go to war over this. The past regime promised him "long term 3B," and that was 2 years ago. I think that was the plan, until Bregman entered the picture, but that doesn't really change Devers' perspective.
  14. This seems a bit encouraging.
  15. 1B Devers & Casas (DH when not playing 1B) 2B Campbell (DHam-Romy platoon, if Campbell starts 2025 off the 40 and in AAA) SS Story (with Mayer or Rafaela as the sub) 3B Bregman (near GG quality is the obvious choice, to me.)
  16. Devers does not strike me as a prolonged pouter. I doubt he escalates this to demand a trade. Suck it up, dude, and do what's best for the team. I hope he asks to try 1B before being relegated to DH. I think he can do better than the worst defensive 1Bman in MLB, Casas.
  17. We just signed Bregman. The plan was for Devers to play 3B, before the signing. Yes, they should have talked to him, when the signing became imminent, but when was that? I'm not surprised he's upset, especially in light of his comment that he felt he was good on D, last year, and that surprises me. He's gotta know Bregman is much better on D, even if he thinks he's been "good." Maybe, he'll come around, but I'm not so sure upsetting him with the question, before we knew Bregman was joining the team was the better idea. Chances are, he'd have had the same reaction, so what's the difference, unless it convinced us not to sign Bregman?
  18. You never mentioned Ref getting worse. He can hit .800 and likely still be better than Campbell or Anthony v LHPs, and certainly ebtter than his real squeezers: Rafaela, Abreu and Yoshida. He only gets squeezed, legitimately, if he's hitting under what Abreu, Rafaela and Yoshida are hitting vs LHPs, and over a few months. This is a pretty far-fetched scenario, IMO. It was not mentioned, before, so I view it as moving the goalposts.
  19. We really don't need this sort of drama. Raffy needs to read the room.
  20. It's easy to just say, "Tell him he can put on a 1Bman's mitt or play DH, or both. You have no choice." In reality, I'm not sure how much of an issue this would create. I don't see the "happy-go-lucky" Devers as a pouter, but I'm also not sure I'd want to try and find out. We are a much better team with Bregman at 3B, and in some ways, it smooths the path for Campbell at 2B rather than the OF, of gasp.... SS. I'd try hard to explain to him that he might think he's good on D, but 29 other 3Bman are better, including Bregman, who is top 5. Maybe don't tell him he sucks on D, but that Bregman is one of the best and is a longtime proven vet, who deserves to play his natural position, too. If he remains adamant, maybe we need to ask what he'd do, if we force him to 1B or DH. How he responds might matter.
  21. Shoulda asked before signing Bregman.
  22. What a mess.
  23. If Raffy becomes a dick ab out this, he will lose a lot of my respect, which has been bountiful, over the years. He's gotta know he is not good on D, and Bregman is excellent.
