  1. Where did the others rank?
  2. I guess I'm a blind squirrel running up a broken clock.
  3. Grandal has a higher OPS and could catch in a pinch. I like notin's idea of giving Jh Garcia a 1Bman's mitt.
  4. fWAR vs bWAR is up for debate. I'm not sure which is better, and they are pretty close on most players- just not Rafaela. I hope he can keep hitting over .700.
  5. The Sox rank T13th in FWAR Pitching 4th RP (lots of innings help) 17th SP We are... 7th in everyday player fWAR (which includes O & D) This should make us a top 15 team. By position: 1st 3B (Tied w CLE and will end up lower due to Bregman injury) 3rd Devers (no more talk of a line-up demotion or his "las 80 games.") 4th RF (Who says platoons suck?) 6th Catcher (Wowza!) 9th LF (not bad) 10th Rafaela, errr... I mean CF 24th 1B (Thought it would be worse) 26th SS (That's the Story.) 28th 2B (We just can't seem to ever fix 2B) 3rd best OF in MLB with the top prospect an OF'er.
  6. fWAR differs... 2.5 Bregman 2.4 Crochet 2.0 Narvaez (just 47 games) 2.0 Devers 1.7 Rafaela 1.4 Duran 1.2 Abreu I'm not dissing Ceddanne. He's one of my faves.
  7. Me, too, but when your number one is a plus defender and can maybe hit .800, I'm not sure how much we need to invest on a better back-up than Wong, especially when we have greater priorities. Maybe Wong's .758 OPS, last year was a fluke, but a .700 back-up catcher is not too bad. it's his D I worry about. He's 29. VTek got better around 29-30, so maybe he can, too.
  8. I totally agree. I'm talking about building the farm to a top 3-5 ranking. Bloom was the major factor (Anthony, Mayer, Campbell, Arias, Romero, Valera, early & more.) I like Brez way more.
  9. Fine. I still think Bloom, even without Brez, was responsible for getting us to top 5 (after he was gone.) Brez got us to top 3-5. Is that better wording?
  10. Those numbers are not awful for a back-up (20-25%) catcher. I would like to see a better defensive catcher. I'm not sure we have one in our system, close enough to the bigs to be worth sticking with Wong until ready. Has Wong's defense improved, this year, or is the sample size too puny to know enough? We have Grandal (1B also) and Zavala in AAA (plus Lira.) Kolozsvary (good on D) and Rosario (bad on D) in AA. Brannon in GRE w questionable D. 20 year old Jo Garcia might be our best hope, but his D is in progress, and he's had to overcome injury. He may be 2-3 years away.
  11. It certainly could happen sooner, especially after Anthony gains the extra year of control. Duran for prospects also fits the deadline punt narrative. Could we see Brez play the "halfway" game Bloom tried too often? Trade Duran, thinking we lose little by replacing him with Anthony, then trading for a "now" player?
  12. If Romy can find his 2024 magic vs LHPs, maybe a Toro-Romy platoon at 1B is okay. I'd think about Mayer at SS vs RHPs and send Story to a platoonship. The problem is that Toro would play 3B vs RHPs and the 1B platoon is messed up.
  13. Hey, hey! KC has a .900 OPS in his last 2 games. Keep up the demotion talk: it's working.
  14. I'm not beating him up, and "infantile" is a cognate in Spanish. I just don't see how not throwing to the cutoff is infantile. Estupido, maybe. Descuidado o Temerario, probably. (Careless or Reckless.) I like iortiz and know how hard it is to learn a new language at our ages. His English is better than my Spanish, and I lived in Mexico for 4 years.
  15. Or, in big LF stadiums: Anthony LF, Rafaela CF and Duran RF, but I'm not sure this sort of shuffling works out too well. Duran might struggle with the way the balls come off the bat in RF.
  16. As you pointed out, I said "Bloom-Breslow," not Bloom and Breslow, separately. I did answer, anyway. They reached about #10 before Brez took over, so yes, not 3-5 before Brez took over Bloom's farm. You can pick apart the wording, but I'm sticking to the veracity of my statement. Bloom was largely responsible for the farm becoming top 3-5. I'm not sure what else to say. I think I explained myself well enough.
  17. I'm not sure how good their top 2 are, but this seems like a deal Brez might make at the deadline.
  18. Yes, after the game, Rafaela said he thought he would have gotten the runner out on an accurate throw. (I'm not so sure.) He kind of blew past the missing the cutoff point, which likely did not make Cora any happier. It's hard to fault Rafaela for these errors, since he more than makes up for them in other plays, but he does need to hit the cut off man. I'm just not sure "infantile" is the right word choice.
  19. I think Anthony would be better than Duran in RF. How about LF Anthony, CF Duran, RF Rafaela?
  20. Our current (2024-2025)rankings have been top 3-7 in just about every ranking service. I know you know this. Geeesh! It took a while to get to top 10 in most rankings, but when you are at #30, then COVID strikes, it's a pretty formidable rise.
  21. You think the last 2 years ranking have little to do with Bloom? Bloom also added some prospects that graduated so quickly, we tend to forget they were prospects, and who did little to raise our rankings, like Whitlock and Abreu. I think BA had us 10th in 2023, but we were 30th in 2019 and around 20th for '20-'21 (the COVID years). We also had some penalties. Bloom brought us Whitlock, Abreu, Kelly, Wink, Wong, DHam and others through non draft or IFA methods. He drafted and IFA'd: Anthony, Mayer, Campbell, Guerrero, Arias, Romero, Valera, Early, Dobbins, Cespedes and others. We also traded some of his prospects, like Yorke.
  22. At the risk of repeating myself, Anthony will get his chance at some point. What will change in August or next season? An injury? An OF trade? Why wait? get his feet wet now, or once that extra year of control is in the bank. If we have to trade Duran, Abreu or Rafaela, then so be it. It's not like we'd just hand one away for nothing. We do have other serious needs, like SP, 1B and more...
  23. It's nearly impossible to not agree with this. It's debatable if DD would have agreed to work under the conditions Bloom was placed, or if he'd have won more games while still building our farm into a top 3 ranked system. We can't know for sure, but we do know some friction started after 2018. We did not pay to replace Kimbrell & Kelly and signalled the inevitable Betts trade to come, if not at the 2019 deadline, then the following winter, for sure. DD was not happy with this new direction and let it be known. IMO, the relationship was doomed to fail, once JH made the big choice to rebuild the team and revamp the philosophy.
  24. Kinda-sorta, but not a top 3-5 farm like the Sox reached under Bloom-Breslow. Also, would he have stood for what Bloom did? Trading Betts was one thing, but not only was his contract cost not replaced, there were further cuts down the road for 2-3 more years. We never replaced JD, Porcello, Price, Nate, ERod and other rather large contracts. I guess we can say we tried to replace Bogey with Story, but that's it. Every stud we lost from the 2018 team was not replaced, in kind or nearly in kind. While several prospects DD did not trade went on to do well, Devers, Houck, Duran, Rafaela, Crawford and Bello, to name a few, many took years to make an impact. Maybe DD would have drafted college players over HS players and saw a quicker ROI, but I doubt he could have rebuilt the farm better than it ended up being rebuilt, especially if we won more, which is your premise, and had lower draft picks. No Mayer draft slot. Maybe no comp picks (Anthony & Campbell)
  25. Agreed. I'm just saying that many who say firing DD was the biggest mistake, don't mention the budget. We can hem and haw and say "What if...?" all we want, but the budget was going to be cut, so I don't see firing DD as the issue. Bloom largely failed as the rebuild GM, but he seemed better suited for that task at hand.
