  1. So, Duran & Sandlin for Lodolo, and then what? We have the only pitcher we need, in theory- maybe bring Matz back, too. I figure we have about $40-45M to spend and still reset the tax. We need 3B or 2B and a 1Bman. One has to be a big power RHB. Maybe: Suarez/Alonso or could we have enough to pull of a trade for K Marte, and then we sign a Hoskins/Naylor/Hearns for 1B?
  2. Agreed. Lodolo is a good enough #2 for me, and if it's just Duran and maybe Sandlin, it seems like a much better deal that what was suggested for Joe Ryan.
  3. Well, notin thinks Greene is not a top 10 SP'er, so that's not close to Skenes talk. I'm sure they'll ask for Tolle or Early, but they may take all offense. You say Anthony, but maybe it could be Duran & Mayer with Garcia as a possible third. That would create a Sox need for 3B and 2B.
  4. Okay. You think it takes way more than I do. I thought you were saying Duran, Garcia and Clarke was acceptable for Cincy, but you obviously were not.
  5. I'm saying 3 players- one from each group listed. Close to your proposed offer.
  6. Kirby vs Bieber. Go M's!!!
  7. Refsnyder says he wants to play in 2026. The Sox have RHBs Jh Garcia and K Campbell waiting for a shot, so maybe we trade one of them or a LHB OF'er, or we just put it off for one more year by bringing everyone back. Ref has been one of the league's best batters vs LHPs for 3-4 years, and some of our LHBs struggle mightily vs LHPs, namely Duran, Abreu, DHam and Mayer. Since Rafaela has even and not so good splits, he's not an offensive boost vs lefties. I like the idea of offering Duran, Garcia and maybe Sandlin or Mullins for Greene. Then, hopefully JH allows enough money to be spent on 2 good bats (3B, 1B, 2B, DH.)
  8. We'll need someone like Slaten to maybe make up for the expected drop by Chapman. We also have a lot of young pitchers and returning pitcher to help take up some slack, but I hate counting on injured players regaining their old form. We will also surely have new injuries or continuing old ones. I think our outlook is better than many teams, as most of our most important players are approaching prime and not on the other side on the way down. It's mostly speculative value, but we have a lot of it, while other teams have more needs to fill and less speculative value depth. Just my opinion.
  9. It's really a decent strategy, IMO, as the return packages are usually cheaper over the winter. He made a lot of winter additions, and for the first time in a while, most worked out. That's not to say he's off the hook for not doing more at the deadline, but the team was much better this year and looks pretty solid, going forward. IMO, we are down to 3 major needs. I'd venture to say most top 10-12 teams have more winter needs than 3.
  10. That's always a key factor. BTV has Duran valued more highly than most of us, do, but we need the right GM to value him just highly enough. Many felt Teel and Monty was too high a price for Crochet, while others felt they'd insist on Anthony, Mayer or Campbell plus one of them. We know very little.
  11. Spotrac's Estimated AAV for FAs: 40 Tucker (zero chance for Sox) 33 Valdez (near 0%) 30 Bellinger (0) & Imanaga (0) conditional option 29 Alonso (maybe a slight chance/high on my list) 28 Bregman (maybe/not on my list at this price, unless 2-3 yrs) 27 Ranger Suarez (I like, but near 0 chance) 26 Cease (Please, GOD, NO!!!!) 25 Schwarber (only if we can dump Yoshida and some of his cost) 24 Bieber (doubtful) 23 Bichette (not high on my list) & M King (too much money) 20 Gio (maybe if deemed healthy) 18 Gallen (NO!!!!) 16 Eflin (maybe) & M Kelly (I'd like this at 2 yrs or $40M/3) 15 Bassitt (maybe) 14 Nick Martinez (Maybe), Torres (maybe), L Arraez (too much decline), Ozuna (???) 13 Realmuto (doubtful), Littell (maybe) 11 O'Hearn (maybe) or Josh Bell (doubtful) Willi Castro (???) 10 Rengifo (doubtful) 9 Scherzer (doubt it) 7 O'neill (doubtful) 6 Santana (doubt it)
  12. To get to a top 4-5 team, IMO, we need: 1. Major power RHB (3B, 1B, DH or 2B) 2. Major SP'er (good #2 level at worst) 3. A decent bat (1B, 2B, 3B, DH) We can trade for one slot, but filling the other two with $40-45M may be very tough, and we are not even sure JH okay's that amount.
  13. Probably not, but they really need offense, and 3 years of Duran + 5 years of Garcia is a lot of O. I am very high on Jh Garcia- maybe more than others, and Duran is highly valued by BTV, so between those two points, I think the offer is close to even. I'd add 2- maybe 3 from Sandlin, Mullins, Cespedes, castro and Bleis, as well.
  14. No doubt ever that we have the money to spend. Even the poorest teams can spend way more and still make a hefty profit.
  15. I'm not high on Sandlin, so I'd add him for Lodolo, if they insisted. Duran straight up should be enough, agreed. On Greene, I see the cost of FA SP'ers with less promise than Greene, as most are 30 or older, as being too high, so someone like Greene deserves an overpay. I get the injury risk, and maybe he's due for a full season loss, but this guy can pitch very well. I see an offer like Duran, Garcia and Sandlin as worthy of the risk. You mentioned how Meidroth was not a make-or-break part of the Crochet deal: I see Sandlin as less than Meidroth value.... maybe close to Wikelman value. I might even add Mullins or Cespedes.
  16. The CWS had room for more than a 2 for 1 deal. Cincy probably doesn't, but they might insist on someone like Clarke, Valera or Fajardo, who do not need to be on the 40. Cincy need offense, so I'm thinking Duran & Garcia or Abreu & Campbell. If they insist on adding one of those young pitchers, I might say "Take Sandlin or leave it."
  17. I'd care a lot if it was one year vs 7 years of Skubal. I mentioned the Crochet deal was borderline bad, if we never extended him.
  18. Unless JH goes nutty on winter spending, we will not be adding any catchers, except on MiLB deals.
  19. Agreed. I'm hopeful JH realizes we now have an open window that was not really there over the past few year, unless he spent $50M more. I think we can be a top 4-5 team by just spending to within $1-2M on the first tax line. Spend up to the second line, and there is no reason we should not be top 4.
  20. While I hope he decided to spend way more, I think a few teams are spending absurd amounts of money and there is little chance even half the teams will or even can come close to their levels. We know JH & Co have enough. We know the Sox are worth a lot and make a lot, but this is the way of business in today's world. It's all about making more and more. Are you some kinda commie? (LOL)
  21. Agreed, but what if he agreed to an extension as part of the deal at $30M x 6? I'd probably still say no.
