    I'm all in on bashing Brez for Gio, despite his nice first 19 starts of 2023. When you combine the 3 related events, it does make Brez look stupid, but I can't see it like that: Sale resurrects himself like it's Easter Sunday. Giolito sucks badly. Grissom sucks badly. Throw in some money on top of it all. No doubt, Brez has the hindsight king of the big pile of doo-doo award, for these choices, but all had some promise to them, at the time. If Brez had not struck gold on some other moves, then I could see sharpening the ax, but Crochet, Narvaez, Chapman, Wilson, Bregman (B4 the injury) and even scrubs like Toro have been impressive moves.

    That was nice win. Too scary at the end, but we needed that one. We have a tough stretch coming up. The Rays always give us trouble. Then, 3 at home vs the Yanks. The 9 game left coast trip will be telling: 3 @ SEA, 3 @ SFG & 3 @ LAA If we can get through these 15 games near .500, maybe we can hit the burners in the next stretch: 3 TOR, 3 CIN, 3 at WSH, 3 COL, 4 TBR The schedule gets real nasty after that, starting July 18th. We have 5 weeks where we have to make a serious move.

    Whitlock went 2 IP in 6 of his first 12 games, but just once in his last 10. Do we need a new long man?

    If we can bring down the Yanks with us, the season will not be a total loss. Man, Judge is an absolute beast.

    Max, last year, you seemed to think I was making too much of our rotten D, much of which did not show up as errors. Glad you jumped on the wagon. Our D has improved in some places, but I never expected the drop by Story and to some extent, Duran. I'm loving Narvaez more, each day. Mayer & Campbell are going to be okay. Rafaela is better than even I thought he was in CF. (His arm has been off target the last week, or so.) Ref has not killed us in RF, and Abreu more than makes up for him.

    Adjustments sometimes take longer than we hope. Let's hope this is his last (long) adjustment. I'm liking how Story is looking, too. I'm not sure Toro & Romy can keep this up, but BAM, the Casas injury and big drama on 1B depth seems like a big beef that turned into a tiny morsel of impossible meat. We gotta get our pitching healthy and in comfortable roles. Our 7-8th RP'ers have been a revolving door. I worried about needing to "cycle through" too much or our deep but mediocre pitching depth to find the 8 RP'ers we needed. We've seen the same faces, up and down, too often, already. I'm not sure we can make to the deadline, and if we do, we gotta do better than Luis Garcia and Lucas Sims. I know we need a solid SP'er, too, but I fear we will just have to run with what we have, and once again, hope on an injured starter to return and return in form. That broken record needs to disposed of, but it is what it is.

    And all those other pitchers with blown saves in earlier innings were the best Cora had to choose from.

    Jh Garcia went 1 for 3 with a BB and his OPS fell below 1.000. BTW, Woo won 5-4. POR lost 6-2 as Wehunt got shelled. Arias homered in GRE's win (2 for 5.) Re Rivera went 5.2 w 1ER, 8Ks, 1BB and 3H. Y Rod 2-5, Taylor walked 3 times. Yuten is heating up with SAL (3-4.)

    Campbell seems to be shaking off that long slump. 1.323 in first 33 PAs .540 in his next 185 PAs. .862 in his last 13 PAs, before tonight's dinger. The two hot streaks, combined are still dwarfed by the long slump, but let's hope he's back in a groove.

    Thanks for the correction. One flaw in OPS is that one uses PAs and the other ABs, and yes HBP and Sacs are treated differently. A single is counted in OBP and SLG, but a walk counts only in OBP. It is likely that a BB is worth more than half of a single.

    You crack me up. OPS= OBP+SLG Yes, hits are counted twice (OBP & SLG), while walks once (OBP only.) XBHs as compared to just hits are just counted once, as well (in SLG not OBP.)
