  1. Harrison was a top 25 prospect, last year. Maybe we think he can be the next Crochet. While Devers has enormous value, he value per dollar spent is in negative territory, according to BTV. The age old question will be: does JH pocket the money, most of the money or repurpose it to boost us in an area we need more than a FT DH. Maybe Bregman can return earlier as a DH. Maybe we still have faith in a Yoshida return. Maybe this was made to free up the OF logjam, once Abreu returns. Is the downgrade from Devers to Duran at DH and Anthony in LF vs Duran more than the plus we get in the rotation and farm? Inquiring minds want to know.
  2. I like our team on paper better than the Jays, but baseball is played on the field- not even on cardboard.
  3. Wild how SS asked if I'd trade Devers for a top shelf pitcher, earlier in this thread. I'm not sure I'd call Harrison "top shelf," and maybe the plan is to flip him (with others) for Skenes or the like.
  4. Does Harrison have 3 or 4 arbs after next season's last pre-arb year? 4 or 5 years of control?
  5. Kyle Harrison was the 23rd ranked prospect in all of MLB, last year. We must really like him. Jordan Hicks looks like an attempt to move the money part a tiny bit in SF's favor, as he is owed $12M x 3 more years. (His AAV is $11M, so the Sox gain a lot there.)
  6. I can see keeping Mayer over Campbell, when Bregman returns, but you mentioned sending KC down when Abreu returns. I like KC more than DHam, but if we cant find a way to play these 3 kids more than 70-80%, I think we send 'em down. I'm not sure we try anyone at 1B, as long a the Toro-Romy duo keeps raking.
  7. Duran would bring back more than that. His "off year" is still heading towards a 2.5+ WAR season. He's still 7th highest in fWAR since 2024 at 6.7. He's got speed and many years of control.
  8. What would we have to add to that deal to get Painter? What would we have to add to Painter to get Skenes?
  9. Cora batted Story 4th. Since it worked- no beef from the can Cora crowd.
  10. He had a worse stretch of about the same length of time, when Bregman was in the line-up, at the start of the season. I'm not so sure the mini slump is related to Breg's injury, or not. Devers has been streaky over much of his career. Also, from May 23 to before today, his "slump" has been: .812 over 21 games. With slumps like that, who need consistent hitters? 18 RBI in 21 games is like 140+ RBIs over 160.
  11. There has always been the lure to good pitchers to try and get batters to swing at balls out of the K Zone or out of their comfort zone. Some of the best pitchers "go after" batters near but just out of the K zone more often than we might think. I'm not disagreeing with you. Too much nibbling can backfire, and it also leads to high pitch counts and more taxing of the pen that is optimal.
  12. I'm not sure it can ever be quantified, especially when comparing catchers from different teams, staffs, parks, coaching and more. It's one of those, "You know it when you see it" things. I liked Vaz, but it was sort of a long-standing beef I had, that our other catchers, for the most part, got better numbers from the same pitchers during the same seasons, more often than not. Even the more unbalanced and smaller sample size comps seemed to greatly favor the "other guy." Vaz did hit better than the other guy, most seasons and had a decent CS%, and some other metrics, but not that unmeasurable aspect.
  13. Bello had a 3.86 ERA and 3.22 FIP over his previous 4 starts, before today's gem. Maybe, he is finally giving us what we hoped he could. Both the Bello & Rafaela extensions are looking better than they did a few weeks ago.
  14. SEA is up 6-0, late vs CLE, so the WC standings will look like this: 39-32 TBR +3 38-33 TOR+2 36-34 SEA --______ 36-35 MN -0.5 37-36 BOS -0.5 35-35 CLE and 36-36 TEX -1.0 Crazy how in less than a week, so much can change.
  15. We all saw what our pitchers just did to the Yanks. Not talking about it first is not ignoring it. Devers just homered. Why "ignore" that. (LOL- I couldn;t resist.)
  16. I assumed Bello was done for the day, when I posted this. I'm not disagreeing with Cora, though.
  17. We'd have to get a third team involved (Philly?) or find another top shelfer on a team that can afford Devers forevers. Devers (+some cash) & Monegro to PHI Painter to PIT Campbell, Fitts, Mullins & Abreu to PIT Skenes & Bednar to BOS
  18. 20 pitches per inning for Bello, but he got the job done. We've seem to have identified our 2nd and 3rd SP'ers, like it or not. Able to improve upon or not. 1. Crochet 2. Dobbins 3. Bello 4. Buehler (by default) 5. Gio/Houck/Crawford/Sandoval (I doubt Fitts gets another look, the way he's doing at Woo.) Criswell & Uberstine look like the only other possibilities in the system, unless you think Early or Sandlin make a double leap.
  19. Yes. I'd trade anybody for a top shelf SP'er with 3+ years of control.
