  1. Brez was a genius to drive up the price- never intending to sign Juan.
  2. Alonso was 100% an unrestricted FA after 2024 after playing 162 games in 2024 and hitting a huge HR in the playoffs. He got an optout after year one and $30M/1 w player option for $24M from one of the two biggest spending owners in MLB history.
  3. He can spend close to $40-45M and reset. We can trade for one major slot fill. We could try to dump some salary, like Yoshida and Hicks, but would be lucky to save $10M AAV on both combined. Trading Duran saves $8M AAV, Campbell $7.5 or Rafaela $6.25M. If we could save some on Yoshida/Hicks and trade Duran & Campbell, we'd be nearing $65-70M.
  4. One owner overpaid Soto. That does not mean every elite hitter gets $70M.
  5. Alonso got $70M? Alonso got only $30M from the one of the richest owners in MLB, last year, and now he's a year older. How is he getting $70, next year? $70M/2 is not even happening. Alonso plus Schwarber might get $70M a year. Suarez is getting old. He might get $70M/3. Tucker might get $45M x 5, $40M x 6 or $35M x 7.
  6. Anthony ($16M AAV) + Hicks ($12M AAV) is almost what the Devers tax hit was, but Hicks is done in 2 years. We still have the Bregman money (32M)... ooops... Crochet's extension +$24.5M + Campbell's extension ($6.5M) But hey, what about Buehler's $21M + Gio's $19M? That's $40M, right? Ummmm, right? Hello, hello! Are you there, JH? "Just nod, if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home?"
  7. IMO, we have 3 major holes, and in theory, losing the contracts of Devers, Bregman, Buehler and Giolito should allow us to fill them, despite several large extensions kicking in, next season. If we focus all resources on just 3 slot (4 tops) instead of trying to go cheap on 5-6 additions, I think we can improve enough to be considered a top 4-6 team. (This year, we were a top 8-12 team.) 1. 3B or 2B (Suarez, Bregman, K Marte, Torres is borderline) 2, SP2 3. 1B (Alosno, Schwarber, Suarez with Hoskins and Naylor as borderline) ( optional ) 2B or 3B (We'd have to count on Mayer, Romy, Sogard, Eaton & DHam to fill a slot, instead) If we add 2 borderlines, we'd need 4 tota
  8. To me, all these guys would be better at DH than another position: Yoshida, Refsnyder (if he returns) Duran, Casas, Campbell and maybe even Romy. Or 1B options are Lowe (high arb cost projected, so might be nontendered) Casas, Romy & Campbell. Assuming we count Mayer at 3B or 3B (Or Mayer at SS and Story at 3B or 2B) what else do we have as options? DHam (2B only) Eaton (3B) Romy (2B, 3B?) Sogard, Grissom (yuck)
  9. I'd say not by enough to make a big difference. No matter how big we go, we will likely be depending on several players returning from the EOY IL list. How well they rehab and get back into a groove could mean everything.
  10. Is this an unreasonable plan? Sign Hoskins and G Torres Trade Duran, Clarke& Sandlin for Joe Ryan. Next question: is this enough to make us better? (Minus Gio, Bregman, Wilson and some low performers like Buehler.) Crochet, Ryan, Bello, Sandoval, Crawford/Dobbins/Early/Harrison/Fitts/Perales Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Weissert, Tolle, Bernardino, Criswell, Hicks/Moran/Wink/Murphy/Kelly/Guerrero 1. Anthony LF 2. Torres 2B 3. Abreu RF 4. Story SS/3B 5. Yoshida/Romy DH 6. Hoskins 1B 7. Mayer 3B/SS 8. Narvaez C 9. Rafaela CF Bench: Wong, Romy, JH Garcia, DHam/Campbell
  11. I am near the bottom of the list on those who play the blame game. I defended Devers and spoke to the language and cultural barriers. If you think he's totally blameless, fine.
  12. I would not be surprised if we pass on any RP'ers other than minor league depth signings. I thinking we convert starters to the pen and we rely more on Moran, Murphy, Kelly and Guerrero than we did in 2025. I think Fitts, Criswell and Tolle might be pen arms, at some point in 2026.
  13. Agreed. I'm not hanging this all on Cora for not doing it. I'm not sure of Brez told him to, or not. This was a serious ding on management, for sure. (Devers was not blameless, either. His willingness to play 1B w SFG exposed that.)
  14. Probably not, but we lose Wilson and some of the others are kinda sketchy.
  15. The depth did better than I imagined, as did Gio & Bello. Crochet pitched more innings and better than I imagined. (Priester did better, but for another team.) I hope our 2026 rotation can do as well as 2025. If we get another SP, we can do better, as we should try to be.
  16. I think we protect Sandlin. Mullins & Paez are on the bubble but IMO a no. Monegro is a no due to the injury. Bubble, otherwise. Uberstine is a no. Other no's: Hickey, Castro, Drohan and all others,
  17. I liked the preseason look of 2025 more than this, and that was with serious doubts about Gio, Bello and concerns about Houck's second half of '24, Crawford's repeating 2024 and Crochet's ability to go over 150 IP.
  18. Maybe Harrison would be the 2026 Priester. I'm reading Dobbins will be 100% on opening day of ST'ing. W4e started the 2025 season (after day one, as 60 Day players start on the 40)with Sandoval, Penrod & Murphy on the 60 Day IL. Crawford, Bello, Gio & Perales started on the shorter IL. That was 7 pitchers (5 SP/ 2 RP) on the opening day 40 man roster starting the season on the IL. Our starting 5 was Crochet, Houck, Buehler, Fitts & Newcomb. We had these SP'ers on the 40 but not 26: Priester, Dobbins, Criswell & Wink (pen?) 5 OD rotation, 5 IL, 3-4 in minors and on the 40. That's 13-14, and it wasn't enough. We traded Newcomb & Priester but acquired Harrison & May. We added Early, Tolle & de Leon and still used Bernardino as an opener 3 times. We have room to add one major SP'er and still ha ve the same or less SP'ers on the 40 as 2025. Crochet, ____, Bello, Sandoval, Crawford To 60 Day IL day 1: Houck AAA: Early, Harrison, Dobbins, Fitts, Perales, (Pen? Tolle & Criswell) That's 13, but going to 12 once Houck goes on the 60. Again, I'm not sure Brez will do it, but I'd add a #2.
  19. From what I've heard, Jh Garcia is already a better defender than Duran and might be better than Anthony (no knock on Roman.) JG's bat is unproven and likely starts as a platoon, but with so many lefties and Rafaela having reverse splits, we can cover him. (I'm assuming Ref does not return. If he does, then this becomes questionable.) I am also very far from giving up on KC. Someone said he has a "long road back." If he's not back, soon, he likely never will be. The guy can hit. IMO, he will at the major level and soon. His issue is defense.
  20. Again, I'm not for the idea, but I'm not handing Duran and Abreu away. The theory is their trade returns significantly boost 2 of our weakest areas by exploiting our OF depth.
  21. Houck is out until 2027, and we lost Gio & Buehler. Fitts proved nothing. Perales has a long way to go to prove he's for real. Dobbins and Crawford showed promise at the MLB level, but should be viewed as #5s. If Sandoval is healthy, he's maye a #4. We went into 2025 with 11-12 SP'ers with MLB promise, and that wasn't even counting Early & Tolle, and we still ended up looking around for a SP at the deadline and for game 3 of the playoffs. #1 Crochet #3 Bello #4 Sandoval, if healthy #5 Crawford, Dobbins, Early #6 Harrison, Fitts, Tolle (pen?) Criswell, Perales Love the depth: hate the lack of top quality SP'ers, other than Crochet. I'm not saying Brez will add a #2, but I hope to hell he does.
  22. Do you think the talk of getting Joe Ryan at the deadline was sincere?
  23. Maybe a Merrill Kelly type 1-2 year deal.
