  1. Does Campbell count?
  2. We added a lot of pitchers in the draft- all but one from colleges. We should start seeing some more attrition moves.
  3. Great news! Brez-da-MAN!
  4. Unlike Bloom, Brez has already shown he's willing to trade prospects- high ones, as well as several ones. The Crochet trade saw more top prospects go in one trade than all of Blooms plus DD's last year, combined. Last summer's deadline saw a lot of Rule 5 eligible players traded, but several were in no danger of being selected, and Brez also traded several non Rule 5 guys, too. Brez is not a "hoarder." Bloom may have been forced to hoard, but we may never know about that. No way would I trade top prospects (from a good farm) for a rental. The Schwarber & Nate trades are about as high as I go with prospects for rentals. I don't know what was out there, what was offered and what Brez turned down, but my theory is, he could have gotten better than M & M by offering more than he did... maybe not a top 10-12 prospect, but more. If he was to offer a top 12 for a rental, it better be a real good one (like Schwarber or Nate were.) If you go by sp.com, Sandlin is #9 and Bleis #12. I would not have beenu pset, if he dealt one or both of them for a better SP'er than May. I get the argument about not trading for a controllable pitcher at the deadline. Normally, the price is lower in winters. The Duran or Abreu plus a prospect or two for Ryan deal is not an easy call. My reasons for leaning towards a yes, was based on the idea that we'd have a top 4 OF'er on the bench way more than should be, and that trading one for a #1/2 type pitcher would help more than it hurt. With Mayer's return in doubt, and Rafaela needed at 2B, that part of the equation greatly changed. I'd say waiting until winter makes sense. (Trading an OF'er did, too.) I'm not pissed at Brez. I'm driving his bandwagon, as I see it, but I wish he'd done more. Without knowing what "more" would have taken, I can speak with any certainty.
  5. Ryan is not a back end starter. Anthony is no slouch. This is not about Duran for Ryan. That was one of many suggestions. Abreu was another. Trading for someone better than May for a couple more mid level prospects would have been better.
  6. If M & M do well, Brez won't have failed, so it's still TBD, but I do feel like he should have done more. He did more, last summer, and we had less of a chance to win, then.
  7. Yes, we need 2 SP'ers, but one really good one would have been fine. I love Duran, and mentioned with Rafaela needed at 2B, the need to keep him is higher, but I still see the drop off from Duran to Anthony as less than from Ryan to Criswell/Harrison/Fitts or even Buehler. I'd have been fine trading one or two more mid level prospects to improve upon the May trade.
  8. We haven't made the playoffs, yet, and someone can get hurt, right?
  9. I remember him being very bad on D at 2B, which surprised me, since he was a SS w ATL. Maybe he needed time to adjust, but reports are, he still sucks on D.
  10. Sox now have the 8th best record in MLB. 0.5 GB HOU #7 -2.0 GB PHI, CHC & DET for the 4th best record -3.0 GB TOR for the ALE lead and #2 record in MLB behind MIL. In 2021, we were 64-46 (6th best in MLB) and 1.5 GB the TBR for the ALE lead, but were about to lose 5 of 6 and end up 12-16 in AUG and 14-11 in Sept (3-0 in Oct.)
  11. I've never been for emptying the farm. I do think he could have offered a little more and gotten a little better. I hope May shuts me up, just like Chapman did.
  12. I can certainly see why DHam should not be playing much, except as a late inning defensive replacement or PR'er, but I see no reasons for Grissom to be playing on a team in contention. Sure, he may end up hitting significantly better than DHam, but I don't see why we should assume that, just because DHam had been around .400-.500, most of the season. I don't think he is that bad and will continue under .500. I'm not sure Grissom will hit more than .600 or .650.
  13. Okay, I get what your saying, but I took SS's comment as going beyond the literal meaning. I think he was implying, :look at how Duran compares to the NYY LF'er and others.
  14. But that was quite a while ago. (He did help for a bit.)
  15. I happen to think Duran is plus, when compared to the MLB norm in LF. His metrics are skewed by the short LF wall. He may even be a plus in CF, but I think he'd need to show more playing time there, this year or beyond, for me to know for sure. I'm not sure what "comparing in a vacuum" means. DHam is better than Grissom at 2B in a vacuum or on the field.
  16. Well, you kinda compare overall, when you say someone is good, bad or average. Duran would be a GG OF'er in little league.
  17. He sure can be, at times, and when healthy. Letting him walk ended up being a big mistake, but it wasn't so clear. We almost got him back.
  18. Somebody if we paid all but $1M, maybe.
  19. Not hearing any of the "keep as many options as possible" crowd speaking out against this choice.
  20. With 4-5 guys on the IL, it is kind of amazing we still have choices. Buehler & May Criswell & Fitts Harrison & Sandlin
  21. Agreed, but we could use 2 for the regular season or an injury,
  22. I think it looks more like we should have done more, now that we are winning.
