  1. Yes, duly noted. My bad.
  2. What about how the numbers would look, if everyone was pro-rated to 700 PAs (Approx): Leon .350 25 102 Ortiz .313 43 140 Betts .320 37 120 J B Jr .273 33 113 Bogey .306 22 100 Pedey .323 16 80 H Ram .281 27 118 Young .268 25 80 Shaw .248 21 92 And people thought our offense was going to have too many "black holes"!
  3. Leon has now passed Vaz in PAs as our catcher. That gives our top 9 players these numbers: 1.022 Ortiz .976 Leon .924 Betts .856 JBJ .843 Pedey .825 HanRam .813 Bogey .746 Shaw .722 Holt Young is 8 PAs from Vaz as out 10th place PA guy and has an .834 OPS. How about the splits? vs RHPs (100+ PAs) 1.078 Ortiz .941 Betts .926 JBJ .883 Leon .853 Pedey .793 Bogey .779 Shaw .774 Holt .735 HanRam .735 Young .539 Vaz (Beni was at .969 in 55 PAs) vs LHPs (60+ PAs) 1.164 Leon 1.095 HanRam 1.005 Young .893 Bogey .860 Betts .856 Ortiz .802 Pedey .671 JBJ .628 Shaw Vaz .771 in 35 PAs, Hill .653 in 48 PAs, Holt .339 in 37 PAs
  4. What a tough schedule we have coming up. That's one thing that makes our recent 3-3 home stand hurt. 3 @ OAK and 3 @ SD should be winnable, but we have not done all that well on the road. Even if we go 5-1 or 4-2, we'll have our work cut out for us down the homes stretch: 3 @ TOR 3 vs BAL 4 vs NYY 4 @ BAL 3 @ TBR 3 @ NYY 3 vs TOR That's 7 vs BAL and NYY, 6 vs TOR and 3. vs TBR. It's tough for Toronto and Baltimore too!
  5. He's been about average. Hill is a plus, but your point is well taken. Moncada would have to be really bad to make a big difference.
  6. oops
  7. I'll guess 42.
  8. You're right. It seems like longer. Not a bad trade even though Lars Anderson's stock had already fallen by then. You know what is really strange? After Papi retires and assuming Taz bolts and Buch too, Wright will have the second highest 40 man roster seniority behind Pedey! Even if Buch and Taz return, he'll be the 4th man by seniority (when added to the 40 man roster). Holt is next. What a massive roster overhaul since July 2012.
  9. I was going to say the same thing.
  10. Well said, although I think Wright was obtained by Theo. Keeping him in the system and giving him a shot could be viewed as plus for Ben. I also think Kopech will leave a mark- Devers and Basabe as well.. He also signed Cody Ross and Gomes and I think Rich Hill- the first time. Carp was a steal - for a year. He moved Miller to the pen for good. Badenhop did well.
  11. I'm super pumped up on Yoan. I'm worried about his defense, but his offense should counter that and then some.
  12. Even if you take away the top draft picks (Tball, Beni and Groome), he left us a boatload of top talent on the farm from A to AA.
  13. You're an expert at doing that.
  14. You need reading comprehension classes.
  15. I'm a thousand times more ok with it than saying "hey player xyz might not be able to play position within 2 years so we should move him here now because that might be a hole in a year or two" I am too. I don't know who was saying move Moncada to 3B two years ago.
  16. When have I come even close to saying that's what we should do? You guys are continually misrepresenting what I said and believe. I did call for Bogey's position change to 3B, and I wasn't the only one. I read what scouts were saying, and I fell for it. i was wrong and admitted it often. What I felt about Bogey was not something systemic in my beliefs on prospect protocol. I had mentioned that even if Bogey was not going to be converted to 3B, it wouldn't hurt to give him some reps at 3B "just in case". It all ended up working out fine in 2013, and Bogey has turned into a fine SS. Moncada's case is completely different. There were reports he wasn't advancing at 2B and others that said he was doing great there. His bat clearly looked like he was on a fast track to ML readiness. All I said was we should THINK ABOUT starting to GIVE HIM SOME REPS at 3B SOONER RATHER THAN LATER, and you'd have thunk I invented a whole new system. I never said move him to 3B now, but many acted as though I did. I was shouted at that I didn't "undertsand protocol" and when the Sox started giving him reps at 3B 2 weeks after I posted my suggestion, user still said I was wrong. Teams seldom speed up timetables due to quicker-than-expected adjustments by unique players or out of desperation due to an injury or sudden struggle from a ML player, but it's not some fantasy. Moncada was looking so awesome at the plate (and I don't fear the K like some do) that I felt an adjustment might be called for. User and others said you don't change a player's level and position within the same season. That was the protocol and that's what works. Putting too much on a kid's plate is not what teams do. Apparently the Sox either put too much on his plate or they are acting out of desperation and taking a gamble, or protocol is not etched in stone for every player (or a combination of the 3). Someone tell me, if I'm missing a fourth option. .
  17. What good would it do? When you misrepresented my opinion, I was forced to go back and show exactly what I said, and how you twisted it. You never admitted you constructed a strwman, and kept saying I didn't even know what a strawman was. The ball's in your court now. You go back and look. I know what you and other said.
  18. My opinion was wrong? For God's sake, the Sox followed my suggestion nearly to the exact timetable I suggested they might do, assuming as I said at the time Moncada was already or extremely close to ML ready offensively! On Beni, I never disagreed with management and said we should "call him up the second they feel he is ML ready". I had hoped, in hindsight, that he got more reps in LF than he did, but I was not in the camp for calling him up earlier.
  19. I have to believe upper management was onboard with I called Ben's "5 year plan"- basically saving most of the prospects, trading away Lester & Co., etc... Where he lost traction with management is when Pablo and HanRam didn't keep us out of the last place. Surely, they realized we couldn't win it all last year with that staff. Maybe Ben didn't ask to outbid teams for Scherzer or Lester. If he did, but was refused, but then DD was allowed to sign price, I'm not sure the blame is being properly placed. We may never know what Ben's role was in the FA signings or lack of signings. I am glad he kept the kids. I doubt we'd have won with Scherzer anyway, even if we had traded Margot, Guerra and Espi a year or two earlier for a big poiece that worked..
  20. Then why even make comments and give our opinions?
  21. 1) Moncada played some 3B in Cuba, so 2B might have been his most comfortable position, but maybe not by much, so the original call might not have been a slam dunk decision. One has to think they'd have started him at 3B, if they felt he was better there, so I'm not arguing that point, but Moncada is a unique player with unigue talent and positional history. 2) I was told what "protocol" was by posters who knew better than I. (So I was told.) 3) When beni was called up, rather than admit the protocol was not followed, they screamed "desperation" not deliberate decision made after serious planning.
  22. See how it feels Mr. strawman constructor. Your position was clear. You don't change levels and positions in the same year, because protocol is the right thing to do, because "it works"..
  23. It's not an exam. It's a question about your opinion based on what you know, which for all of us is much more limited than what the Sox know-granted. In general, do you agree that 10 games is enough at a new position for a player to be sent up to the bigs at that new position? They did it to Bogey in 2013, and they did not get burned. He did very well. I'm not saying the Sox f***ed up. I'm asking people if they feel okay with Moncada getting just 10 games at 3B? We're not even sure he'll play much 3B, so the question is maybe not even pertinent. The timetable the Sox chose to use on Moncada followed very closely to what I hoped or speculated it should be. The gave him reps at 3B shortly after I said they should do it "sooner rather than later".; They actually started playing him at 3B a little quicker than I expected, but I'm not privy to what they saw in practice or know about his skill level on defense. I'm feeling 10 games is rather short. I really didn't expect to see Moncada at 3B this year in the bigs...same as Bogey in 2013 (although I called for him to get 3B reps earlier then as well). It's not a right or wrong question. I'm not trying to :get ya" or anyone else. It's a simple question asking for opinions. Nobody gets shot if they end up being wrong in hindsight later on.
  24. You guys are missing my point and assuming I don't get why things were done the way they were. Nobody is answering the question at hand.
  25. No, user said you follow protocol and protocol says you don't change a level and a position in the same year....let alone 6-8 weeks.
