  1. The Dodgers have a better pitching WAR and way better ERA- (79 to 85).
  2. Houston has way better hitting than us, so far. They have 7 guys with 11 or more HRs, including a guy who is 12th on the most PAs list. They have 10 guys with 8 or more HRs. They have 12 guys with over a 133 PAs, and out of those 12 guys... 4 are over .900 7 are over .800 10 are over .740 While are pitching has been better (118 ERA+), Houston still has a respectable 108 ERA+ despite having used 9 different starters and currently have 4 starters on the DL. We have 13 guys with over 108 PAs, and out of those 13 guys, we have.... 0 over .900 4 over .800 9 over .740
  3. I suggested we sign Cody, too, way before it happened. I liked the Cespedes-Porcello trade but liked the extension more. I thought that went in the win column, but now I'm not so sure. I hated the Masterson signing like I did the Penny-Smoltz fiasco. Build the rotation from the 1 or 2 slot NOt the 4/5 slot! I liked the trade for Miley. I once thought Owens was under-rated.
  4. And the one guy who actually thought giving a 32 year old future Hall of Famer an 8 year $240mill contract was a good idea is currently running y he Sox. Makes it seem like maybe acquiring Verlander might be on DD's radar.
  5. Pretty bad when taking on $41M for Pablo barely puts a dent in what's owed Miggy up to what? Age 55? Pablo, Porcello, Castillo, Travis, Chavis and Lakins for Verlander and Miggy would still put us way over the luxury tax (for many years to come). Just say NO! to the large and long deals with most years post-prime.
  6. Just trade Bogey for Espinoza and Margot!
  7. Did I forget to say, I'm so happy we have... Drew Freakin' Pomeranz!
  8. Just got back from my last night out in beautiful Coyocan, Mexico. I was hoping to top the night off by looking at a winning box score. Oh well. (This was where I was married to my wonderful wife.)
  9. LOL. They could just cut him immediately. How about Pablo, Travis, Chavis, and Lakins for Miggy?
  10. Maybe a reach on error or HBP is all we can hope for.
  11. True enough! Pablo is owed $41M for 2018-2019 (counting the $5M buyout for 2020). Verlander is owed $56M for '18'-'19. The $15M saved is not what Detroit has in mind. Even if we paid $26M of Pablo's $41, they'd probably say no. Note: if we trade for Verlander without giving up substantial salary in return, we'll be over the luxury limit this year and NO RESET! I think Verlander would be owed about $9M of his luxury tax $26M number for the remaining one-third of the year. If we could get Detroit to pay just enough of Pablo's contract to keep us under the limit this year, we could consider it, but then we are way over next year and 2019, when we will need to start extending people or losing them. As much as I love acquiring top starters, I have to say no (in theory).
  12. He's only 24. He's been hurt too much, which should count against him. I accept that. He's had 51 starts up to his current age of just 24. That's not bad. 17-15 4.10 is pretty decent. He was off to a good start this year as his WHIP was about 0.15 better than 2015-2016 combined. His ERA was more than a half run better than 15-26. ERA+ 108 career. Pomeranz has 54 starts since 2014 (28 with the Sox). He's 10-9 4.17 with the Sox and has been out hurt as well. His WHIP is over 1.00 more than ERod's and is 2.00 more than his this year alone. Career OPS+ 112, but with Boston 109- about the same as ERod. I'm glad we have Pom. My argument against the trade was never about me having any issues with Pom, other than he was projected to be a 3/4 starter. I still hate the trade, but Pom gives us a better chance at winning this year and next.
  13. They switch balls when we are up to bat as retribution for Tom Brady.
  14. I don't want to open a can of worms. The Manny trade was long ago. BTW, he wanted his 2 extension years given (accepted early)- not an A-Rod contract. It was my opinion Sox management wanted him gone. They were pretty obvious about it, and of course Manny gave them a few reasons to want that- some blown up by the local media. I was shocked we were able to get Jason Bay after everyone in the world knew we had to trade him once all the crap came out. BTW, we got Workman in Brentz with the draft picks for losing JBay, so maybe we can still get something out of that trade!
  15. Groome, Chavis and Pablo for Verlander. (LOL)
  16. Prado will cost way too much in combined prospects and salary.
  17. I'd like to have Gray, but there's too much of aa Buch-factor risk involved. Always wondering about injury or which guy will show up tonight. That being said, I did view Gray as an ace from 2013-2015. (Note: I view an ace as being a clear top 30 starter for 2 or more consecutive years or 2 in 3 years, if an injury is involved.) Gray was top 30 in WAR from 2014-2015. He was 9th out of the 74 starters with 450 IP from 2013-2015 in ERA (76). That's one point behind Scherzer and Felix and 1+ point ahead of Lester, Price, Kluber and Bumgarner. 16th out of 74 in WHIP at 1.13 21/74 in xFip- at 89 which is better than Cueto. His K rate was not as high as others and he's 42nd in K/BB (2.74). He was an ace from the time he came up in 2013 to the end of 2015. 2015 is a long time ago. I'd pass on Gray, unless our scouts think he's back to form and the price does not include ERod or a top 3 prospect. That ain't happening, so NO GO!
  18. We seem to be agreeing a lot lately. We've always been on the same page with superb SS defense being a top priority, but now it seems like we agree on everything.
  19. I agree on roster addition changes, robo umps and possibly clocks.
  20. Some of my biggest mistake suggestions: I wanted Johan Santana very badly. (Not for Lester and others, but Buch, Lowrie and someone else, I can't recall.) I was right about wanting to trade Middy after his big half season, but my most suggested name was Gavin Floyd. I did not think we should have traded Manny. I had no problem with leaving Pedro in that game. I was the last poster to agree that Valentine had to go. I liked the Thornburg trade. You tend to forget your mistakes more than your success. I know there are many more.
  21. It would be my dream come true to work with the Sox, but my bet is there are thousands of people like me wanting the same thing. Of course, nobody is as smart as me, ha-ha.
  22. The Yanks (and others) may be better after we hit "the cliff". I wouldn't sub our team for any AL team over the next 3-4 year period--even the Astros.
  23. He's got to have a better contact rate bunting.
  24. I'd gladly spend all the money Henry allowed me to spend, but I'd avoid going over the $20M penalty barrier above the luxury tax. I would never have signed Crawford or Pablo. I would have tried to sign Scherzer, instead of HRam, and I would not have insulted Lester with that low ball offer. With Scherzer and Lester, I don't sign Price. I would not have traded for Kimbrel and Pom, but I would have sought out a Sale and Quintana/Carrasco/Salazar type trade with a mega prospect package that likely would have included Moncada, Espi, Kopech, Margot plus others. I'd have made many mistake, too many to mention, but I'd avoid the large and long contracts for the most part.
  25. Is there an opening? I'd gladly come out of retirement as a consultant!
