  1. We could have afforded lance Lynn had we not signed Moreland and nontendered or traded Holt and Leon. We'd be tight on the max penalty line, but it was doable.
  2. Sometimes scrub signings work out (like Fister and Rich Hill), but the odds are greatly against it. It's not like I was against signing 1, 2 or 3 vets to minor league deals, but I didn't see the urgency. We ended up with 3 of our top 6 starters out to start the season and still may only have needed Johnson and Velazquez for 3 total starts. Yes, we may need a starter later, and that's one reason why I hated the Moreland signing and Holt arb cost. It's usually easy to take a big contract pitcher off a noncontending team's hands in July. We only have to pay 2 months salary and can get someone much better than a minor league February signing. Who knows, we may not even need one.
  3. 9 games- no errors. What are you guys complaining about? Our defense leads MLB in Flg%. (Sarcasm alert.)
  4. JMart and HRam for Stanton?
  5. I know the season is young, but is it true the much-vaunted Yankee pen now has an ERA over 5?
  6. Plus a $6.5M late inning defensive replacement at 1B!
  7. Fair enough. I know you egt emotional, but try to relax a little.
  8. So, does that mean you want Swihart in LF, so you can bench JBJ for good?
  9. Yes, in a sense, we added them or will be shortly. Plus, we have Workman avaialable all year and felt better about Johnson and Velazquez this winter as opposed to last winter. All we lost was Abad and Ross- who was out almost all last year. My point is that I feel DD was counting on returning injured players instead of signing a journeyman vet to a minor league deal. Look, chances are any vet we signed to a minor league deal would have sucked anyways, had we needed him. I think this argument has gone on too long for such a minor issue.
  10. Wow! I paused the game, went out to eat, and then got a happy surprise for desert when I got home! Great win! Lot's of 2 out thunder!
  11. I'm surprised Natick hasn't already asked about the earliest date we can trade JMart.
  12. Come on HRam! Earn the vest!
  13. Beni's BA is just inches from JBJ's.
  14. Time for Beni to "Wake up th echoes!"
  15. We could have had Moose instead of Moreland and moved Devers to 1B/DH.
  16. This game is an extreme example, but it does show how poor defense often does not show up in the box score. Can you see why many of us are leary about dismantling our great defensive OF just because JBJ is streaky?
  17. No errors today. Must be we're playing great defense, right?
  18. How many infield hits can a team give up in one game?
  19. JD should DH, except at NL parks. Our IF defense is bad enough to warrant trying to keep the OF defense at its peak.
  20. Injured "OR" juicing, right?
  21. 2017+ 2018 1B 0.9 (26th in MLB) CF 1.8 (22nd) LF 1.8 (19th) 2B 2.2 (19th) C 1.8 (17th) (Note: I'm not claiming WAR is the be-all-end-all judgment criteria.)
  22. Nobody is rushing to sign them now. I'm okay with waiting.
  23. We brought Wright, Smith and eventually (hopefully) Thornburg into the mix. All were virtually nonexistent in 2017. (Note: I'd have kept Taylor, too.)
