    I find it hard to believe they missed out on Breggie, and then began thinking about Suarez and signed him that quickly.

    It is a stark turn-around in less than 3 years at the helm.     It wasn't a $24M DFA dump, which is never easy: it was getting another team to take his full salary to even out the imbalance of the other trade pieces- like Duran>> Baty, but Duran+ Hicks= Baty + Suarez.

    I guess if you only view it as a positional pivot, I suppose, yes. I think when the pivoted (financially and valuewise) from Bregman to Suarez, they knew they'd be getting a 3B/2Bman somehow and now had an added trading chip from SP'er depth that increased by one with the Suarez signing. (They may aslo trade an OF'er and keep the SP'er depth value. I'm honest about it. Not agreeing with your narrow view of a "pivot" is not being dishonest.

    He has no options, so he's still around, because they want to take another look. It might not be a confident look, but he'd be gone by now, if they did not want to have a look-see.

    As shaky as Mayer looked at the plate in limited MLB action, last year, he still hit .,739 v R. I'm not a fan of Romy at 3B, but his .978 split vs LHPs is talking pretty loudly. Together, they might hit .800+ We'd need a 2Bman, otherwise Romy might be our FT 2Bman and cannot platoon with Mayer at 3B.

    It's not like trades after January are all that rare, and there are still a FA or two out there. Maybe some team is waiting to see what happens with Suarez, before a trade occurs. I'd feel okay with a 2B platoon of Mayer v R and Romy v L. I'm not sure I'd say the same about Romy at 3B, and a Mayer-Eaton 3B platoon is not on my radar. I hope it's not on Cora's either. Both Paredes and Donovan, as well as infielders like Baty, Vientos, Smith and Hoerner are still, bay all accounts, still available, and some of those teams need an OF'er and or a SP'er, where we have a couple logjams. I think a trade is still probable,

    Oh, I'm pretty sure they think he's worth another look. The dumped Bernardino, Murphy & Guerrero to keep a roster spot warm for Hicks. I'm not against the idea that he could rebound. I was merely looking for a way to add two bats, since adding one big one seems like a lost cause, right now. I'm not "for" trading Abreu or even Duran, but we have a gaping hole at 2B/3B and big power bat. I'm not sure Paredes covers both openings with one move, so I looked for ways to add a 2B/3Bman and a power bat (E Suarez.) It was just looking for "a way." I do not think Brez is looking for "that way," at all.

    It wasn't just Suarez: it was Baty and Suarez or Paredes and Suarez.

    The pivot did seem weird, but not bad. Maybe we trade Bello for Paredes or Donovan and they view it as Suarez + Paredes/Donovan > Bregman + Bello. You may disagree, but it no longer looks "weird."

    Mayer is suspect to me, too, but I think they view him as taking one of the two slots: 3B or 2B. Maybe they platoon Romy with him- maybe not. Like it or not, I think that's the plan. I'm not sure the plan is any worse than starting the season with DHam or E Valdez as a slot holder. (Not that they should be where the bar is set.) It seems simple: trade an OF'er for a 3B/2Bman.

    It's more about the $24M/2 and $10.2 AAV x 2 than his lack of hope.

    With Masa and an OF'er gone, DH is open for a big RH'd power bat we need- Suarez. Paredes fits the infield need and also adds a good bat. I don't want to trade Abreu: I want to dump Masa and Hicks. Those are the biggest perks of the trades, besides adding two good RH'd bats.

    No. I like our roster construction, except for one hole needing to be filled (2B/3B.) I wish Bloom did not sign Masa, so that is one slot I feel the "roster construction" was off base (1 out of 40 is not bad.) Okay, two out of 40- add Hicks. I do think we should have traded an OF'er last winter and still think we should, so maybe that counts as a roster tweak I think is called for, but having depth is not "bad construction." I don't see where you think I'm "saying the roster construction is bad," but by all accounts you often overanalyze. 😜
