  1. If GMs panicked after two bad starts in a row, we'd have no starters left, except maybe Sale.
  2. YES! Beni on base 11 of his last 12 PAs and 13 of 16. His OPS is almost over .900 again. Pearce is now at .922.
  3. We've got 5 guys over .866 right now, not counting Pearce (.892 overall). Nice!
  4. How long does it take for the effects of steroids to wear off?
  5. I'm all for doing everything we can to make sure Sale is as rested as can be come October.
  6. All I can say about seeing the box score is WOW!
  7. softy was a real clown on that other site. I'm glad he didn't follow us over here.
  8. The ebbs and flows of a long season.
  9. Yeah, that's pretty good. That's a "pretty good" little run. (I added the word "little" for you.)
  10. The guy we traded for Pearce wasn't ever mentioned in talks of trades for anybody significant. I'm sure we can trade for other players as good as Pearce without losing our best prospects. The tricky part is the budget and max penalties.
  11. You're missing my point. We're doing better now than expected. Why would doing better mean we feel like we have a greater need to trade than when we weren't so sure? We knew we were going to be in the race in January. The only thing that has changed is that we are more sure of our offense. To me, that should create less need for going over the max line not more need. If we go over, my argument is going to be, we should have done it in January, when cheap pieces were available left and right at no added cost other than financial. (Doing it then or now still brings the equal draft penalties.) Are you arguing that we thought we might be out of it (in January) and not need to spend to go over the max, and that is why we waited?
  12. I didn't mean trade JBJ for a good glove OF'er, but if that OF'er is cheaper and can field as well as JBJ, then a trade might be a net plus, even if the next guy can't hit any better than JBJ. My guess is, we might trade JBJ and some pitcher like Beeks or Johnson for a good SP'er to take Pom's place. Then, we sign or trade for a cheap OF'er who has a great glove. If the guy can't hit, he won't cost much and we break even in CF, but have something to show for the JBJ trade and more money to spend. This is what I meant by not being "hurt", if we trade him. If we trade him for scraps and move JD to LF FT and Beni to CF, then I will likely be "hurt", depending on who we get for JBJ and how much of an upgrade the return brings us elsewhere.
  13. That's where the "cheaters never win" phrase came from.
  14. So Sonny Gray had been on a pretty good run until he saw the sox and got smashed... You mean the 2 game stretch before getting shelled against the Sox on Apreil 12th? I guess he did get his ERA down from 6.92 to 4.93 before the next Sox shellacking, but in those 12 games between, he allowed.... 5 ERs 3 times 4 ERs 2 times 5 out of 12 is kind of sketchy.
  15. He came up huge in just about every single series in our 3 championship seasons, except one, but in that one (.427 OPS), he hit the big grand slam vs Detroit. His other playoff appearances (2 in 2003, 2 in 2004, 1 in 2005, 2 in 2008 and 1 in 2009, he was only over .697 in 2 out of 8 times. His playoff OPS is .016 higher than his regular season OPS and .009 lower than his Sox OPS. Papi was the man.
  16. Teddy was the greatest. That pretty much sums it up.
  17. The Pats just get caught: the Yanks are better at hiding it. I'm still waiting for the discovery that steroids were in the drinking fountain in the Yankee clubhouse for decades.
  18. I've been a huge JBJ supporter since day one- mostly because I love defense and JBJ's calm approach. That being said, if we trade him this off season, I won't be shocked or hurt, as long as we get a great glove OF'er to replace him.
  19. I never said we always had the hardest schedule, but we're never near the easiest- EVAH!
  20. No, actually, if you put Seattle in a division with NYY and BOS, one of the other 3 teams would have to go elsewhere. If you swapped out the O's, you might not finish in 3rd.
  21. Groome got hurt. He has until after 2020 to reach rule 5. I'm not saying our most recent draft picks are great, but poor draft picks is not even close to the major reason our farm is weak. DD dealt away mega farm talent. That is the main reason by far. BTW, Mata and Groome are just 19- a little too early to imply they are failures or duds.
  22. Was that when they had Amos Otis in CF?
  23. One would be wrong...like almost every year.
  24. They've always been the best cheaters in organized sports.
