  1. No, I meant the guy we get in a 2 or 3 for one trade should have a better chance at helping (not avoiding by himself) the cliff- not Dixon. Dixon might help, but he's a long shot.
  2. The O's will not take Ellsbury, unless the Yanks add another top prospect or young player.
  3. I hope the Yanks trade some of their best young talent for a guy they could just sign this winter.
  4. True. Koji's success was more than short-term, though. Speaking of luck, had HRam and Porcello had their 2016 season in 2015, Ben might still be here.
  5. Nunez starts about 2 out of 3 games at 2B. This isn't a big surprise.
  6. Yes, a year we finished last. A year some claim Ben gave us no chance at competing.
  7. I'm not sure. I just know a lot of baseball publications or shows thought we'd be competitive those years.
  8. The Sporting News projected the Sox would win the wild card in 2012.
  9. 2014 Bleacher Reports for 2014: 1. Boston Red Sox 2. Tampa Bay Rays 3. New York Yankees 4. Baltimore Orioles 5. Toronto Blue Jays The Boston Red Sox had a quiet winter but return the nucleus of a team that dominated the regular season and captured a World Series in October. A step back from excellence could occur, but not enough to knock this squad below the 90-win range. In a division without a truly great team, that could be a formula for a return trip to the postseason. Vegasinsider win projectiosn 88.5 TBR 87.5 BOS 83.5 NYY 80.5 BAL 77.5 TOR Fiverthirtyeight 90.0 BOS 89.5 TBR 85.5 NYY 81.6 BAL 77.4 TOR Clay Davenport 90 TBR 86 BOS 85 NYY 78 TOR 77 BAL
  10. Our farm is weak on upper level prospects, so trading 2 or 3 for an upgrade prospect or young player could help us avoid a cliff.
  11. I feel bad for Velazquez but hopeful our offense can carry us.
  12. Well, we could try to make a 2 for 1 trade some where to free up a slot, or maybe trade or DFA one of these guys Jerez Shepherd Cuevas Brasier
  13. What a shame. I've always had high hopes for Marco, but I guess he's just been snake-bitten.
  14. True, but he's been a little better since 2014: .269 vs LHPs but a very decent .346 OBP. Overall since 2014: .268/.343 More than decent. Interestingly, look at the OBP vs SLG since 2014L .486 SLG (36th rank). .343 OBP (86th rank)
  15. Line-up: 1. Betts RF 2. Beni LF 3. JD DH 4. Moreland 1B 5. Bogey SS 6. Holt 2B 7. Devers 3B 8. Swihart C 9. JBJ CF
  16. He has not gotten over 383 PAs, so in that sense, he's been a "role player," but he has an .829 OPS since 2014. That ranks 44th out of 319 players with 1000+ PAs since then. Only 38 players have a better OPS and more PAs. I'm not sure Young or Gomes could ever say that. Like Gomes and Young, they all hit lefties better, although reverse splits sometimes happened when with Boston. Pearce is .880 vs lefties since 2014. Only 21 MLB players have a higher OPS and more PAs vs lefties in this period of time!
  17. I like what we got now, too. I guess when other teams start going with large upgrades, we might look for another tweak like Pearce.
  18. Will Blake Swihart finally prove himself, now that he’s been given a chance to catch more often with Vazquez out? Doubtful, but certainlypossiblr. Will Velazquez make a case for staying in the rotation? The question might be more about Pom pitching well enough to win his job back. Will David Price work out of this funk? I'm not sure it's a "funk", but it would be nice for more consistency. Is Steven Pearce as good as he seems? He's real good. Will Chris Sale finally have a strong second half? My biggest concern about this team. WE NEED HIM STRONG IN OCTOBER! Will JBJ ever start to really hit? Yes, for a short stretch. Do Pomeranz or Pedroia come back? I'm not counting on either but Pom has the best chance. If not, who wins the second base job? As is: Holt and Nunez. Do E-Rod and Porcello win 20 games? 18 & 18 Does JD win the triple crown? No, just HRs & RBI Do the Sox break the 110 win mark? Close Can they stay ahead of the Yankees and win the division? Book it
  19. Great to see ERod continue his excellence. It still amazes me some wanted to trade him. Great to see the Yanks lose one to the lowly O's. Nice to see some of ouf our games in hand becoming loses for the Yanks. Moreland & Holt have certainly been proving me wrong. I love being wrong in these ways. Pearce looks like a superb get. We made it to Maine last night. We're here for a week, then off to Canada and back to Maine for a few more days. Nice to be back in Sox Country!
  20. Matt Adams (.935) is "junk?" Plus, it's not like we're hind-sighting dubs that are having good years, we talked about getting some of these guys before the season started. Notin mentioned some pitchers.
  21. A lineup that’s 5 deep will struggle come playoff time. We currently have 6 players with an OPS over .875. We have 8 guys over .726 and 9 over .683, including a catcher (Leon), The Skanks have 3 guys over .875 NOT 6! The Skanks have 9 guys over .725: we have 8, but their starting catcher is below .725. If we are so weak after 5 players, what does that say about the Skanks? Plus, we have 2 guys over 1.000- you have none. We have 4 over .894- you have 2.
  22. softy reeled me in too many times.
  23. Well, people want to trade for Moose, now, so we could have signed him and traded him, if we did not need him.
  24. Here's a couple: $4M Matt Adams $6.3M Moustakas There were some pitchers that went cheap, late. I can't recall their names.
  25. With all this massive offense recently, the OPS numbers have jumped for most: 1.105 Betts 1.039 JD .922 Pearce (1.128 w/ BOS) .894 Beni .884 Moreland .875 Bogey .778 Holt .683 Leon .663 Nunez .619 JBJ .548 Vaz .460 Swi 6 guys over .875! Last year Betts led the team at .803 with Devers at .819 and Nunez and .892- both in limited Sox action. Remember when some claimed maybe last year was really the "norm" for all our players nearing or in prime?
