  1. You'd think with all the money being thrown around by Henry, they'd splurge on medical staff and trainers to protect their assets. The extra money wouldn't even count towards the luxury tax!
  2. It's one of the worst things that happened this year. I'm just glad he didn't get hurt.
  3. I'm waiting for someone to blame Sox management for causing this injury and preventing Swihart from "getting a real chance." I'm not sure blaming the trainers counts.
  4. Only if the other team agrees to pay all his salary, would we agree to trade him. The fact that no team seems to think he's worth it answers why he's not on our 40 man roster as well, since most teams are not paying a tax on their budget and none but us are paying the max.
  5. Tearing it up? Yes, the BA looks very nice, and an OPS of about .825 is good, I'm not sure I'd say he's playing so great as to get other teams drooling over this 31 year old.
  6. Best OPS before tonight's games: (342 players with 140+ PAs) 1. Betts 1.085 2. Trout 1.083 3. Ramirez 1.040 4. JD M 1.038 5. Arenado .983 6. J Soto .973 7. Pearce .973 10. Judge .947 24. Torres .894 27. Beni .885 40. Hicks .858 42. Bogaerts .855 43. Stanton .855 80. Gregorius .818 86. Moreland .812
  7. Is there still no word on anyone picking HRam up?
  8. Agreed. We have these possible openings on the 40 man roster due to impending free agency: Kimbrel Pomeranz Pearce Eovaldi Kelly Kinsler Here are some bubble players currently on our 40 man roster: Chandler Shepherd Austin Maddox William Cuevas Sam Travis Justin Haley Marcus Walden Bobby Poyner Pedroia (retirement?) 1 from Vaz/Leon/Swihart (all out of options) Marco Hernandez Robby Scott
  9. Great game by Porcello. I hope this quiets the doubters for a while. Great to see we added a new Yankee killer in Pearce. Great to see Moreland get a couple hits. Sweep these clowns!
  10. Where are all the posters who roasted our "weak bench?" True, we added Pearce & Kinsler since those statements, but still...
  11. Betts at 2B. Some one here finally got his wish.
  12. Good point. We'll see what happens when he opts out. He'll be two years older.
  13. It was a step in the right direction. Let's hope his next two starts show more improvement.
  14. If Nunez, Kelly and Vaz are is worth about $4m a year, then Betts is worth at least 10 times that ($40M+).
  15. At $33-40M a year, you are right. I will be "disheartened" if he leaves, but I get the feeling if he does bolt, it will be because someone else grossly overpaid.
  16. Harper and Machado might make $35M, but by the time Betts reaches free agency, assuming he keeps this up, he might make $37-40M a year.
  17. Let's look at just 2018: OPS against/ PAs/ Pitcher (Notice who catches who more often) Only pitchers with 40+ IP are listed, except for Swihart With Leon Porcello .702/ 563 C Sale .513/ 390 D Price .576/ 113 Kimbrel .504/ 77 Johnson .672/ 72 Hembree .624/ 70 M Barnes .507/ 69 Joe Kelly .858/67 Velazquez .793/ 60 Pomeranz .903/ 46 Rodriguez .408/ 43 Workman .851/ 43 With Vazquez Rodriguez .687/401 D Price .780/394 C Sale .572/160 Wright .645/145 Velazquez .738/134 Johnson .843/128 Pomeranz .948/127 M Barnes .493/113 Joe Kelly .429/108 Hembree .748/107 Kimbrel .610/98 Workman .454/35 (zero PAs with Porcello) Swihart' Johnson .657/82 Velazquez .679/47 Pomeranz .878/46 J Beeks 1.160/34 Hembree .494/17 Joe Kelly .625/16 M Barnes .641/15 Wright 1.167/4 It does look like Swihart is doing better, and he has been catching Johnson & Velazquez more than anyone else. He may be more familiar with them frames.om AAA
  18. Keeping Sale & Betts will be costly. Replacing Kimbrel & Bogey in kind (or by re-signing) is going to be extremely difficult and/or costly.
  19. Me neither, but maybe it is part of the reason for his collapse. He has done better his last 2 games, so maybe he's learning to adjust.
  20. I was being joking when I said it was "surprising." Swihart had caught some of the guys in the minors who he then caught in 2015. To be fair, some of the guys Vaz and Leon have caught since 2016 have been new to the team, and they had no back ground with them either. Price, Porcello, Sale and ERod all came to us from other systems-- cold turkey.
  21. He does have 100+ IP with 3 of the guys listed, and while the others sample sizes are too small individually, the fact that he finishes in 3rd in all but one case, I think it's safe to say that to date, Swihart gets the least out of our pitchers.
  22. The difference is the JD deal was NOT longterm.
  23. True, except for Wright & Kelly. Career ERA (100+ IP unless noted) Wright 3.50 w Vaz (90 IP) 4.06 w Swihart (71 IP) 6.39 w Leon (49 IP) Kelly 2.81 w vaz (93) 4.28 w Leon (48) 4.92 w Swihart (68) Barnes 3.57 w Vaz (93 IP) 3.60 w Leon (75) 4.19 w Swihart (34) Kimbrel 1.89 w Leon (67) 2.04 w Vaz (84) 9.00 w Swihart (3) ERod 4.04 w Leon 4.08 w Swihart 4.11 w Vaz Porcello 4.06 w Leon 4.15 w Vaz 4.55 w Swihart Sale 2.44 w Leon 3.38 w Vaz Price 2.89 w Leon 4.32 w Vaz 5.73w Swihart (11 IP) Pretty telling how Swihart ranks worst with just about everyone.
  24. True. BTW, Johnson has pitched well since joining the rotation, but he has allowed 14 Hits+BBs in his last 2 starts combined (8.2 IP). That isn't dominating either.
