I wouldn't swap Cora for anyone.

Maybe they could stand off to the side a little bit and see check swings better. They'd have to wear extra protection for foul balls coming their way.

It's not bad, but it's a step down from Kimbrel's norm. I'm fine with Kimbrel. I just like Sale better. Again, I have no issues with Cora. He's been a godsend.

How are real umps more practical than robo umps when calling balls and strikes? No matter how much they improve, they'll never be consistent or perfect. Why feel badly for umps, anyways, they won't lose their jobs, if all we do is take away balls and strikes.

It would be nice to have that budget space for 2019 as well, but it's nice to see the end getting nearer.

If you just have robo umps call balls and strikes, no umps will lose their jobs. You'll still have an ump somewhere behind home plate to make other calls in that area. If I were an ump, I'd be happy to have that task taken off my hands. Plus, no more umps getting hurt on foul tips or catcher wiffs.... well mostly anyways.

Do we win 108 games last year, if we had JD? It's my opinion that Cora is a big reason we have a powerhouse team.

I meant more about the city. (I live in Sugar Land.) Many Astros players are doing worse or much worse than last year. Only a tiny few are doing better.

Making bad calls might make things more interesting, but not in a positive way. I don't think robo-calling balls and strikes is going to make a big difference in how fans watch the game or like the game. The games will go faster. Pitchers and hitters will now know what they need to do to get things done. We'll soon get used to not seeing a fat ump standing right over the catcher's shoulder. That alone is worth it. The no mistakes on balls and strikes is just icing on the cake.

Yes, I know, but you know how I love small sample sizes. Look, my opinion can change over the years, but as of right now, Cora is the best Sox manager I have ever seen. He seems to have a nice balance between loyalty to the players and vets and making everyone feel like they are needed. He uses analytics better and with more success than any previous Sox manager. He got these kids playing fundamentally solid baseball by cutting down on boneheadedness. He got this pen to finish in the top 10 in MLB this year. He kept using Leon and Vaz despite the sub .575 OPS. Brilliant! Instead of our players entering prime years declining, like last year, almost all improved not just over their 2017 numbers but 2016 as well. He exudes a confident calmness that rubs off on the players. He doesn't always take the hot hand out like Tito and JF did to a fault. He got Sale the rest he needed...and others, too. To me, he does many of the things I prefer managers do. I realize I'm biased in many areas, and he seems to do more of what I like.

Houston does not seem as pumped up as last year. I'm hoping we take 2 in Boston, but let's start with game one. Isn't it great to have a healthy and strong... Chris Freakin' Sale!

Tito did a great job, but he also had some off times. I have yet to see Cora have those. To me, it's not close.

Good point. He'll get hurt the first time he swings a bat or tries to get out of the batters box on the way to 1B. I could see the Rays or Guardians making a move for him. If the Astros lose Keuchel and Morton...

Exactly, and it seems like if he makes a 49% call, it's like he made a 2% call. I, for one, am not one to think that every choice a manager makes has a clear right or wrong choice, or even a clear best choice out of many good or bad options.
