  1. Fangraphs total OF team comps: WAR 1. BOS 15.4 2. NYY 13.2 OPS 1. BOS .906 (142 wRC+) 2. NYY .845 (129 wRC+) UZR150 1. NYY 11.3 5. BOS 6.2 DRS 3. NYY 27 12. BOS 8 Baserunning 1. BOS 12.1 4. NYY 7.4
  2. I'm just saying, before the trade and his last start, who here would have been advocating signing him for 2019?
  3. Funny how you use seasonal stats to berate our guys like JBJ, Leon, Vaz and others, despite us pointing out that they have done much better since May 1st.
  4. All I can say is "WOW!" It may be a bit of an overpay, but really it was not bad. We traded our #19 and #26 prospect from a lowly rated system. I love the move, and I didn't even think 2B was as high a priority as some did. Kinsler is still a plus defender, and he should still have some juice in his bat. He hit 22 HRs last year and is on pace for about the same this year. He's warmed up lately and could be helped by Fenway. Nice job, DD.
  5. Luxury tax dollars After 2018 $22M HRam $13M Kimbrel $8.5M Pom $3.8M Kelly $???? Pearce After $2019 $20.6M Porcello $18.5M Pablo $_____ Bogaerts $13.5M Sale $6.5M Moreland $___ Holt $___ Thornburg After 2020 $___ Betts $___ JBJ $___ Wright $___ Smith $___ Leon
  6. Why? Because we need a good #2/closer type, and if we lose Kimbrel next year, we'll have a guy costing less than $4M on the luxury tax...not the $20M CK might get. You are right about the Cincy viewpoint. (I don't think I offered too much, though.)
  7. Very true. I also see more "fire and desire" than last year.
  8. Good points, but had I told you 4 weeks ago that we could replace Pom and Kelly in 2019 with Eovaldi and Brassier, what would you have said? We will also need other pieces, like finding the next, cheap Pearce and maybe a 2Bman.
  9. Offer: Velazquez Swihart or Shawaryn Chavis Houck Shepherd, Poyner or Walden For Raisel Iglesias (2 more years left at $3.9M on luxury tax budget) See if we can get Amir Garrett (pre-arb) added, somehow.
  10. I'm not singling you out, but my guess is, if Eovaldi has a bad start or two, some sentiments will change.
  11. I meant the finances. Arb raises are going to be stiff....much more than I projected earlier this season due to phenomenal seasons by our arb guys. Taxes go up the second year over. Sale gets a $1M raise, or maybe $2.5M with a Cy Young in 2018 Losing Kelly without replacing him was not mentioned. We lose Pearce, too.
  12. It's not quite that simple, but we probably can keep Eovaldi & Kimbel and stay just below the max line once again as the taxes rise again due to consecutive years clause.
  13. 4 times on base last night with 2 big this (at the time).
  14. JBJ is up to .666. What a devil! 👹
  15. A 10+ week stretch is already one of his longest runs of good hitting.
  16. He was at .510 on May 12th and has been pretty steadily bringing up his OPS. This is not a one month white hot stretch like his history but rather a 10 week stretch of good hitting
  17. JBJ is now over .650. He's at .784 the last 28days. I'm hopeful this will be a long and steady stretch.
  18. The pen really doesn't "deserve" criticism. If anything they should be praised for "over performing". However, the pen needs a dependable set up/closer type pitcher. Can someone we have now step into that role? Sure, but should we count on it? I think not.
  19. Fine. There's no bigger Sox fan in the world than me, and I value rings more than division championships.
  20. And they say we keep bringing this up.
  21. I'm loving this team and have high hopes for 2019 and maybe 2020. I'm fine with going for rings at the expense of being not so competitive for a couples years afterward. While I do think of the future a lot, it does not detract from the now. In a way, it makes the now more enjoyable and important. Nobody is enjoying this season more than I am!
  22. Nobody likes winning due to opponent injuries, but we've had our share over recent months and years, including several players playing hurt.
  23. Our pen has done a very good job for a couple of years, now. Kimbrel has carried us by himself at times, but to me we have decent depth at the position and plenty of valuable 6th and 7th inning arms but too few top quality 8th inning guys. Kimbrel and Barnes are it right now. Here's the long list of decent non 8th inning arms: Kelly Brasier Thornburg Workman Hembree Velazquez Johnson or Pom Eovaldi or Pom/Johnson Scott Poyner Walden Haley/ Buttrey That's 12 guys for the last 6 slots, but no great 3rd or 4th man.
