  1. You crack me up, cp.
  2. We just scored 11 runs off two of the best pitchers in MLB, against the best road team in MLB, against one of the best pens in MLB. Now, we go to Houston, where the Astros do not play nearly as well as they do on the road. We face pitchers we have better histories against, and have seemingly found a mix of player to play that maximize our offensive potential, namely by playing Devers, Holt and Vaz more often, if not FT. I have way more confidence in Barnes & Kelly than I have in months. I think Price may have turned the corner. Porcello looks like he's "got this." Now, it's Eovaldi time. I'm not sure what to expect from him, but I'm hopeful.
  3. I don't even go to the game threads until the 9th inning. They are a mess. Total bitch fest with very little evidence of true fandom.
  4. Part of being a great manager is to get marginal players to play over their heads by finding or creating roles or situations they can be successful in. Other than Kimbrel, our pen looks like a joke, on paper, and even Kimbrel has struggled. Despite all that, our pen still ranked 10th in team WAR. They've also held their own vs the best pens in MLB, so far, in the playoffs. Cora is a big reason we have gotten this far. Those criticizing him would criticize any manager for anything that does not work. Every bad play, bad game and loss is always the managers fault.
  5. As it turned out Michigan jumped higher than I had them, and we both left Georgia out of our top 10. Actual: 1. ALA 2. OSU 3. CLEM 4, ND 5. LSU 6. MICH 7. TEX 8. GA 9. OK 10 UCF 11. FLA 12. ORE 13. W VA
  6. If Michigan can beat OSU, we'lljump them, and our win vs Michigan will look even better. Clemson doesn't play a hard schedule. We could pass them based on schedule strength, but if they have us behind them now, it might be hard to pass them.
  7. They are not a big market team, for sure, but they have a lot of money to spend due to all those years of spending peanuts as they rebuilt. They had a $26M budget in 2013. $50M in 2014 $72M in 2015 $97M in '16 $124M in '17 $160M+ this year. I could see them reaching the limit and even going over for a year or two to keep them in the race. They can and will make money, if they keep winning while spending $210-235M.
  8. He really wasn't that bad. Bogey plays a ball in slow motion leads to 2 runs.. Super blooper base hit leads to more. Take those away and Price gets the win. Nobody is saying he was good. He just wasn't THAT bad.
  9. I would not take either one out of their roles.
  10. Price doesn't deserve another start. He is trash in the playoffs. Cora can't figure that out? Bad play by Bogey. Cheap bloop hit. 4 BBs was bad, but I thought Price looked good enough to start again. ERod scares me right now.
  11. I'd stick with Porcello for game 4, in case we need him in game 7. Moving him back to game 5 lessens what he can give us in game 7. I'm glad Eovaldi is going game 3, and yes all odd numbered games are pivotal when a series is tied. I'd bench Kinsler for good and use him just as a late inning defensive replacement for Holt at 2B. Devers should start. He's always hit well, when it counts. His defense shocked me tonight. I'd move JBj to 7th in the order. Vaz looks like his bat is improving to 2017 levels. He's the guy with Eovaldi & Porcello anyways, so maybe we can get some good O from him. How about Leon being used as a pinch runner? LMAO!
  12. ...as in Shaken Baby Syndrome? Maybe.
  13. The Astros still have some nice young arms, and their farm is not empty. What happens with Keuchel and Morton will be interesting.
  14. Maybe rumors of his arm going kaput are just rumors.
  15. My take aways... Great game! Huge hit by JBJ. Kinsler cannot hit, if his life depended on it. Price looked better than the numbers show. What was Bogey thinking when he nonchalantly played that ball? Devers looks like he has his hitting eye back. I'd play him (3B) and Holt (2B) as much as possible. Cora managed a great game. Our pen carried us. Surprise, surprise! Porcello has proven to be our savior. Kimbrel sure likes to play with fire. Often it's firemen who are the pyros. Now, go take 2 here in Houston!
  16. A lot depends on how high their budget can and will go. If they choose to spend like the Sox this year, they can keep the window open for longer than we can (at $39M over the limit).
  17. Trading Moreland and freeing up his money may be a good way to make the change a year earlier.
  18. Biggest surprise? JBJ not batting 9th. Lesser ones.... Vaz catching Price Holt on the bench Pearce up 5th over the lefty Devers I'm sure others might see more.
  19. Humans are humans. Even the best umps make too many mistakes- accountability or not. No ump could have called that strike that was thrown when Vaz stood up and blocked the view. Robo umps for balls and strikes needs to begin in 2019.
  20. Fielding % is a horrible way to compare fielders.
  21. As much as I love Chris Freakin' Sale, I agree.
  22. Soxprospects.com has this... Arm: Plus arm strength. Touched the mid-90s off the mound in college. Plenty of arm for third base, able to make all the throws including balls fielded on the foul line. Will have accuracy problems on occasion as throws can sail on him. Field: Hands work well and footwork is usually reliable. A little stiff and has some trouble getting down on ground balls when charging the ball. Doesn’t have great range, but makes up for that somewhat with his length, allowing him to cover more ground than his feet would normally allow. Projects as an average defender at third base with the potential to be above-average.
  23. Price ERA by catcher in 2018: 2.37 with leon (84 IP) 4.68 with vaz (92 IP) Career 2.83 w Leon (194 IP) 4.32 w Vaz (263 IP) That's a lot of offense needed from Vaz to overcome a 2 run differential. Start Leon, and once Price is removed, PH for Leon.
