  1. Maybe because Kimbrel is looking sketchy, of late.
  2. It's hard to make the call on who starts the second, thrid and maybe 4th game of the first playoff series. Sale is number one. Porcello has looked like 2016 for much of the year. Price has looked sharp. Eovaldi needs a larger sample size for me to pencil him in right now, but surely, if he pitches this well from now on, he's in the mix. ERod still has time to return and pitch like he belongs. Unless there's an injury, Johnson is not in the mix, even though he seems to struggle out of the pen. Pom has almost no chance to crack the playoff rotation, but he could earn a pen slot. He's been a RP before and a pretty good one. Price looked great out of the pen last year, but if he keeps pitching well, he may be my #2. If you made me choose who deserves it right now, I'd go... 1. Sale 2. Porcello 3. Price 4. (if needed) Eovaldi Long Relief: ERod, Velazquez (Wright? Pom?) Closer: Kimbrel Pen: Barnes, Thornburg, Kelly, Brasier, Hembree (Workman?)
  3. I agree. Umps are trained and calibrated observers just as the UZR/150 guys are.
  4. I feel the same way about what makes the game great. Stats and metrics don't make me smile or get angry at plays made by my beloved Sox... the plays do. Baseball talk almost always ends up with comparisons. Past players vs current ones. Era vs era. Sox players vs Yankee players. CF'ers vs CF'ers. CF'er defense vs CF'er defense, etc... We all value some parts of the game more than others, so no metric is going to please everyone, even if we all liked to use metrics. I admire the goal of WAR. In a way it's what we all do at the water cooler, when we say, "Yeah, JD is a better overall hitter than Betts, but Betts' defense makes him a better overall player." We haggle over how much base running should play into the equation. What about clubhouse leadership? WAR tries to do just about everything all at once. It's an impossible task, but a worthy one. It should never end all discussions, and I get how some use it that way and how that sours some against it and not the person using it. BTW, I really enjoy your posts, too.
  5. Yanks win but burn their pen... again.
  6. Sonny Gray is in. Time for the sun to set on NY's hopes.
  7. Maybe we can trade him and 90% of his salary for Espinoza.
  8. Remember, I wanted the Yanks to get the bum.... not us.
  9. Luke was buffed out when he took that beating like a man.
  10. I hope the game goes 25 innings, and the Yanks burn themselves into oblivion.
  11. Pom had an even better first half to 2016, before the "undetected" injury, but the analogy is spot on..
  12. I'm not defending Pom. He has sucked for quite a while. I'm okay with trading him and paying part of his contract for a bag of balls.
  13. I'm not defending Pom. He has sucked for quite a while.
  14. Stanton with 2-run job.
  15. In game ERA: 0.00 Workman 0.00 Hembree 3.86 Pom 9.00 Kelly 9.00 Barnes 9.00 Kimbrel 18.00 Thornburg
  16. He did last all last year, but you have a point. Pitches thrown in 2017: 3428 Sale 3383 Porcello 3084 Pom 2462 ERod 1531 Fister 1253 Price
  17. I tried to tell you guys it was an awful signing. Nobody listened!
  18. Holder pitching for the Yanks. Walks a guy in the bottom of the 9th. 2 outs, now.
  19. If he does, it will mean he's done very well after tonight, or we have 11 pitchers get hurt.
  20. Get it out of your system. Just win, baby! My two cliches for the night.
  21. Ruh, Row, Elroy!
  22. Chavis 4 for 4. 1 SB 1 CS 1 Picked Off
  23. I'm still hopeful his off season workout regime helped with his endurance. maybe this is just a blip, and he'll get hot again.
  24. Had Mitch K'd, would Cora have been bashed for not having JD up 3rd?
  25. Damn! I wanted JD to HR! Damn you Mitch!
