Just got caught up after watching last night's game and then this one. What a sour taste I have in my moth right now. UGLY!

Thanks. My dog was abandoned in a vacant house for days before I adopted him. The vet said he thought he was going to die. When I got him, his ribs were plainly visible. He survived cancer (7 years ago). He's been a real good dog his whole life. He's a big dog- half shepherd (body size & shape) and half yellow lab (color). He is a couple months short of his 19th birthday. The Vets says he's a true miracle dog. He's been nearly blind and deaf for over 3-4 years. He has had severe arthritis for year but still looked forward to his daily walk until a couple weeks ago. We've had to help him up and out to the back yard and he started falling down more often. Yesterday, he couldn't even stand up. I had to spoon feed him tonight. His name is Kaleb. He's been with me since my days in a log cabin in the Maine woods to hustle and bustle of Mexico City to the lush homestead we have here in Sugar Land, TX. I think his time is up. The vet gave us some meds to ease his pain, but I'm struggling with making the tough call. He's been real bad before and bounced back, but he's never been this bad. Again, thanks for the kind words.

I had Travis Shaw as my dark horse prospect many years ago. I gave up on him. Maybe giving up on DHern will turn him into a good player. (Knock on wood.)

I believe JBJ had a minus UZR/150 early last year, too. I don't pay too much attention to short sample defensive metrics, but it is interesting he's got such a low number. The eye test does not agree.

Yes, and it makes some sense, assuming Vaz keeps hitting this well. If he catches a lot, he will need rest. I'm not sure DH'ing will give him enough "rest," but he should be able to do it at times. Another thought is that we currently have 8 players hitting over .810 the last 4 weeks and Beni at .757. I'm not sure there is really much urgency to try to play Vaz everyday within this context, and we don't want to burn him out, either. We could maybe have Leon catch Sale & Price, and maybe Vaz could DH one of those "off day" and sit out every 5th game. Maybe he could catch 6 of 10 games and DH 3 of 10 for a while. I'm not sure I want JD in the OF that much as he will be playing the OF at NL parks, too.

If you get him at the deadline, his cost may be about $5M with no cash involved or no costly player going to KC. If he's all we get, we may be able to stay under the max line.

I don't think the risk to Leon getting hurt in the middle of a game is reason enough to not DH Vaz. I think we may have better hitters to DH or keep off the field (JD or Pedey), but I'd certainly prefer Leon catching and Vaz DH'ing over Nunez or Pearce, right now.

Let Vaz catch 4 of 5 games with Leon catching Sale. If Vaz needs more rest, which he should at some point, let Leon catch Price here and there. If Vaz keeps hitting so well, then DH him, when he doesn't catch, if it looks like the right thing to do. Right now, we have 8 guys hitting over .800 the last 4 weeks, so it's not like Vaz is the only guy hot right now. We don't want to burn Vaz out. Leon seemed to burn out last year after Vaz got hurt, and he had to catch more often that he should have.

I'm all for moving him and Dalbec up a level, but I trust Sox management knows when they should be moved.

He was supposed to miss about 6 weeks. I haven't heard about him starting a rehab assignment, but living down here in Texas kind of puts me out of the loop.

What makes you think JD will stay "down" the remainder of this year? .910 is not all that far from 1.031. If he ends over .975, he may test the waters, but even if he does, I think he ends up back here, for the same reasons he did before. Nobody else will pay what we will offer him.

If it comes down to keeping JD vs Porcello, I'm certain it will be JD. I shudder at trying to fill Porcello's shoes with someone from this group: Velazquez Johnson Wright Shawaryn D Hernandez Weber J Smith ...but we may have to try it to the deadline.

I could definitely see that. I've talked of Devers moving to 1B, eventually, many times, but I always said he should get a chance to prove himself at 3B first. I'm think Chavis will be our 1Bman next year, assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff. Holt & Nunez are FAs, so we may sign a (cheap) 2Bman this winter. I doubt we go with Pedey, Lin and Chatham.
