    He was something like our 24th try! We've tried 10 starters, and he has yet to get a start. He was the best of the ML ready heep on the farm.

    It's not as bad as 2017, but there certainly is a marked difference from last year in this area. I blamed JF for the lack of "fire & desire," so I should be blaming Cora for this as well. It just doesn't feel like he's more to blame than DD for providing him with this pen, and injury-plagued 4th starter and a merry-go-round of 6th starters. If someone had said Vaz would be over .800 with 11 HRs, Devers near .900 and Bogey over .900, you'd have predicted we's be on pace for another 118 wins. I'm just not sure how a manager can inspire timely hitting and lessen untimely pitching meltdowns late in games with this pen and starter who can't last 5 innings.

    His year 3 and 4 may become a drag. He will certainly help in 2020, but my point was about how much his addition plus Richardson will be equal to losing Butler & Reddick.

    We've already spent more than all other teams and won more rings than anyone this century. It's not anti-elitism to plan a reset.

    Maybe DD should learn that the prices drop. 2 years ago, he signed Moreland when other similar players went for a small fraction of what we paid him. Last winter, he jumped on Pearce and (IMO) over payed for him. I do think others wanted Eovaldi, so I'm not sure he paid more than others might have offered, but waiting for Keuchel or Kimbrel, in hindsight, looks like the way to have gone.

    Al Horford is still good, no doubt, but he'll be 34 next June, and 4 years is too long. I still think Philly will be worse with Horford & Richardson over Butler & Reddick.

    We can't expect ML'ers, but we can expect something like the Chris Sale deal.

    I liked the signing, but I knew there was a higher risk with him. I still think he's a better gamble than what we thought Kimbrel would end up costing. Now, in hindsight, Kimbrel was cheaper not more expensive.

    Does Henry saying he's not willing to spend our way out of this mess finally put to rest the argument that our budget is limitless or near limitless? (This is directed to those who kept slamming me and others for talking fiscal responsibility and tight payroll budgeting.)

    When is DD's contract up? If we can't afford Betts, who is to blame for that? Or, how good can we expect to be without Betts and no minor league OF'er in sight? And, speaking of Betts, what can Cora do to get him to improve? Did Cora help JBJ improve or was he to blame for his annual poor April?

    Good point, but I think Cora's job is safe, at least to July 2020.

    And that "roster" was constructed by DD. I'm glad you are at least now open to the idea that parts of the statement can be interpreted as not being solely at Cora. (You sounded pretty firm that it was 100% Cora before.)

    Of course, there is pressure being directed at Cora, and I know DD's job is probably safer than Cora's, but I do not think the statement was directed at Cora alone. I realize my opinion means nothing to Henry, but I feel that if blame is to be assigned (not my idea of fun times) I'd put more blame on DD than any other one person in the organization- past or present. That's not to say I dislike DD or want his ass canned, if we fail to make the playoffs. I'm happy for the ring he helped bring us, but there is no denying, we are in a pickle now with no help in sight from the farm and no budget space to move more than an inch or two. That is on DD. BTW, with all this talk of not even making the playoffs and firing the 2018 Manager of the Year, could this be a sign of the coming of a steep rocky terrain mentioned years ago?

    It's probably many of these things plus a few not on the list. I'm not sure we can even pinpoint one area that is mostly worthy of the blame game. Our pen was weak to start with. The hope was they could hold it together until we traded for someone(s). They did well for a while, but ultimately came down to earth and even underground. Timely hitting is not something that can be coached, managed, traded for or inspired. It is not a sustainable skill set. It may involve luck, momentum or whatever, but it's hard to throw blame on anyone for doing poorly in small subset sample sizes, but the fact is, we have lost many games due to the lack of one key hit. Our SP'ers have pitched poorly and not gone long into games. Our 5th starter has been a punching bag. Without some massive run support, at times, our 5th starters would be something like 2-15. Devers, Vaz and Bogey have stepped it up, even in the clutch, but too many have declined. I've not given up hope, yet, but I am as low as I have been since 2017.

    I certainly see Cora as being one, maybe the major one, Henry is directing this at, but I do not think he is threatening job loss, if we fail to make the playoffs. To me, it is more of a general lighting the fire under everyone's ass by telling them help is not on the way- sink or swim on your own. Maybe heads roll, if we don't make it. It's easy to look at a team like the Yankees and say, wow, their manager has given them this big lead despite all the major injuries, but look at the reserves he was given, compared to our scrubs. We have a solid 18-20 players and nothing beyond. Personally, I can't see how that's Cora's fault, but I realize my opinion means nothing to Henry.

    Duran is not as good as his brief numbers show. Dalbec is a long shot. Shawaryn is far from our "better" young talent. Our best prospects are the far away ones: Casas Mata Flores Jimenez Lugo Groome Diaz, Decker & Howlett Our only "near ML ready" hopes are as role players, at best: Chatham DHern Houck Feltman (Dalbec ) (Duran- not so close) Ward

    They can take them or just pay $5M. They might be able to trade them and pay all but $4M of the $5M owed and save another million. I'm not saying I'm for this trade, but I'd only do it, if we show some life.

    I respect your opinion, and you could very well be 100% right. I interpreted the statement as directed towards everyone: players, manager and GM. He's provided ample resources to build a contender, and we are quickly slipping out of contention. I don't see Cora as being the only target of this statement.

    How about this? Get KC to dump some salary, but lessen the budget hit by getting them to take some of our lesser salary dumps with some prospects. We get: Danny Duffy (LH's SP'er) $13M x 3 (~$4.3M towards 2019 tax budget) Ian Kennedy (RH'd Closer) $14M x 2 (~$4.7M for 2019) Total: $9M towards 2019 budget, $27M in 2020 and $13M in 2021 KC gets: Steve Pearce $6.25M/1 (~$2.35M owed at deadline) Eduardo Nunez $6M/1 (~$2.15M owed at deadline) Total: $4.5M in 2019 They save $4.5M this year, $27M next year and $13M in 2021 ($45M total) Plus prospects: Dalbec Duran Shawaryn Maybe get them to take Castillo to even up some 2020 money.

    If that is your opinion, then you should be for trading Betts, before all we get is a crappy draft pick after he refuses our QO. When would you trade him? Now? At the deadline? This winter? 2020 deadline? (Might as well trade Porcello, too, right?)

    I'm sure DD signed off on it, but that's not even my point. My point is that our "well-rested" starters have sucked their last 3 starts and longer. It's hard to blame Cora for that. Our pen over achieved for weeks and weeks, despite being over worked. They are finally pitching like expectations projected they would.It's hard to blame Cora for that. We can't buy a hit, when we need it, and I guess that's Cora's fault, too. In my opinion, the players are the first to blame, especially the talented ones who are under performing of not rising to the challenge when needed. DD is second. Cora is third. Henry is beyond reproach.

    Pablo's contract is gone from the luxury tax budget after this year. Castillo, who doesn't count on the tax budget, is gone after next year. Pedey's contract is dead weight, and our best pitcher right now, Price, is under contract a few more years, but this winter, the budget is squarely on DD's shoulders. If we can't win by paying more than any other team, I don't see it as being Cora's fault, especially after he led a team not projected to win it all to a championship last year. Of course, Cora deserves some of the blame, but this is DD's roster. This is DD's pen. This will be DD's budget and farm next year.

    It's sad but true. I have more confidence in Wright than anyone else, except Workman & Brewer, as of right now. That's not the same as saying I have confidence he will be good going forward... just "better" than putrid.

    I disagree, and I think my interpretation is totally within reason. Also, do you think Cora acted totally alone on the decision to rest our SP'ers in ST'ing?
