    True, but we have been 10-8 in 5th starter games, and Johnson had done well for his last 2 starts, before the stomach thing.

    I think Beni's stock value has not fallen as much as you think. GMs do not value players on just their most recent 2 months. He is young, cheap and should improve.

    In hindsight, yes. I wasn't so sure last winter/spring. With budget concerns, I felt we could spend the remaining $3M on a pro-rated, deadline deal and done better. I do think we should have signed a RP'er, instead of Pearce, but with a limited budget and Moreland as fragile as Pedey, and Chavis a long shot, I can understand the decision. The problem was the budget limit, and the cheaper closer option and half the expensive ones have flopped or got hurt (from Cody Allen to David Robertson).

    Trade Porcello, Moreland, Holt (maybe resign him later), Beni and JBJ to start with. Selling Price and Sale would not be worth it. They could still be a force when we get good again. If we think JD will opt out, trade him. Maybe do it anyway. His back is acting up and he's 2 years older than when we took the risk.

    If we sell, these are the keepers: Devers Bogey ERod Vaz Price Betts, if he extends Sale is untradeable. Everyone else is traded, if the return is better. All free agents to be should be traded for the best we can get. Free agents after 2020 should be heavily shopped (JBJ). Sell Beni, yesterday. Line up some trade partners, see what we can get for Porcello, Holt, Moreland and Holt. Reset the tax in 2020 and shoot for a 2021 contender with or without Betts (or JD).

    1. There might be a lot of AAAA players that are excellent defenders and better than JBJ on defense. They aren't in MLB because they can't hit. 2. JBJ had such a horrible start on offense, I wouldn't argue with a 0 WAR. A zero dWAR for this year seems puzzling, but not there are 15 CF'ers having better defensive years than JBJ. A 0 dWAR just means he has not been better so far this year. Maybe he hasn't. I haven't seen the other 29 CF'er to know if he is easily replaceable on D. Have you?
