  1. Chris on Chris Video
  2. While true, we also have no idea about Paxton's back flaring up again or not. If he was a Red Sox, you'd be calling him a walking time bomb. Paxton missed five weeks -- three with back inflammation and two after a line drive nailed his left forearm. He missed two months in 2017 (forearm strain, pectoral strain); two weeks in 2016 (line drive to the elbow); nearly four months in 2015 (left finger tendon strain); and four months in 2014 (lat strain).
  3. Many starters are inconsistent, too.
  4. No, it's not wishing. The age curve often has outlier seasons, so I expect the two I mentioned to fall back to the curve.
  5. Fair enough on Paxton. I guess I just don't put as much weight on just last year's production level. I like Happ. He's good, but he's due to decline, despite not doing so last year, when his age indicated he probably should have. I've been waiting for CC to drop, but it hasn't happened. Surely, he could have another good year in him, but to me, the odds are he gets worse. Price and Porcello are not at the ages where you'd expect a significant decline. Eovaldi is a question mark much like Paxton is. If they both pitch to their ability and put up 200 innings, it would be a big boost. Paxton has a better record and numbers, but I think Eovaldi might surprise people this year. Did I forget to mention how happy I am we have.. Chris Freakin' Sale!
  6. Wright almost made the playoff roster. He was scratched at the last minute. Maybe, just maybe, it's not as bad as it seems. I have never said Johnson and Velazquez were great, but they are our 7th and 8th starters. They are "good" for those roles. You said they were "not good." How many teams have better 7th and 8th starters?
  7. Records in starts... 3-1 Wright 9-4 Johnson 5-3 Velazquez 6-6 Eovaldi 0-2 Beeks & Cuevas combined 23-14 .622
  8. Wright is our 6th starter. How many teams have better 7th and 8th starters than Johnson & Velazquez. Together, the team went 14-7 in their starts. "Not good depth" should be a relative term.
  9. If Wright is not ready, I think Johnson offers our best chance at getting decent results, but the drop off is not big between him and the next guys, presumably Velazquez.
  10. ...where many Yankee fans live.
  11. I think Johnson has more value than Swihart. He may even crack some low teams' 5 man rotation. The drop off from Johnson to Velazquez may not be much, but we likely will need both and then some. The same cannot be said of Swihart.
  12. Not with 2 years left at a high cost, and especially if he shows further decline from 2018.
  13. If Vaz never gets hurt, Leon could catch just 45-50 games (all Sale & Price starts). We may want to start the season with someone between Sale and Price, so we can break up the consecutive games both of our catchers have to start.
  14. Yes, as long as we are healthy, especially our 6 starters.
  15. Looks like DD is doing the right thing.
  16. That would be sweet. We have 5 guys that could win 18, if they get 32 starts (very likely not all at once).
  17. ...but can he get him to run to 1B on a grounder to 1B?
  18. To $17.25 for a 12 oz Bud?
  19. Sale says he feels great. Where is your concern for Paxton, a guy who has never pitched over 161 innins? He's what? Your number 2 guy? Your number 5 is like 57 years old. Happ looked good last year, but he's on the wrong side of prime.
  20. The article does say.... Combine those two factors with what might be baseball's best defensive outfield, and FanGraphs believes the Red Sox will have the game's best run differential by a good margin. So, not everything is bad.
  21. Yes, but just about every dollar spent going forward would be at the high tax rate.
  22. The tax would be enormous. Plus, Kimbrel guarantees nothing, and if he gets more than one year, it likely means saying goodbye to someone we might have been able to keep (like Bogey).
  23. I do, too. 11 games in a row kind a sucks, but if we start the year with Johnson as the 6th starter, we'd only use him once in the first 3 weeks of the season.
  24. I think someone would claim him. There are so many borderline back-up catchers out there, I think Swihart's upside and ability to play other positions might be enough for someone to claim him.
