  1. Well, if we replace him with a min wage guy, the differential is not that much. If we cut his ass, it's more.
  2. Exactly, but if his contract is not guaranteed anyways, what's the difference?
  3. Exactly, and that's one reason they got so filthy rich in the first place. Plus, these guys care a lot about image, and even though I have nothing to back up my opinion here, I don't think Henry wants to be called the next George "buy a championship" Steinbrenner. It's my opinion, Henry will reset the tax after 2019 or 2020, and then try not to ever go over the max line again- perhaps even trying to stay under the $20M line, too.
  4. ...what can a player to with $330 million that he can't do with $300 million? Leave $5M to 6 more relatives in his will? Give $6M to 5 more charities. Pay his taxes with it. Give it to a political action committee.
  5. Barnes & Brasier Hembree Workman Johnson Thornburg Velazquez or Poyner Outside chance: Lakins Brewer Mejia Walden Putman D Tapia (Feltman- late season) Starters to the pen? Shawaryn Shepherd ERamirez Josh Smith RWeber
  6. LOL. I'm happy with the Yankee rotation, too. Sevy may be facing TJS at some point. Tanaka hes been living on borrowed time. Paxton has never pitched a full season with plenty of IP'd. CC has heart issues and more. Plus he turns 82 this year. Happ has done very well as he moves through his prime years, but it's time for decline.
  7. I'm not buying it. Any MLB player knows to check and double check anything they take.
  8. If Pedey starts the season on the DL, I'm not so sure that gives Swihart life. Chavis taking Pedey's place doesn't make sense either. I think I'd want Lin on the roster, but it's not clear cut.
  9. I think they care more than I do. We'd have Kimbrel or Robertson, if they didn't. I care about keeping Betts & Sale and possibly 1 more from Bogey, JD and JBJ.
  10. His contract is guaranteed, right? (Although he does not get half of it.) My guess is, we keep him like we did Chavis.
  11. UNREAL! This guy could have been a major pen arm this year. OH WELL!
  12. Even $40M/3 would keep us from keeping one of the big 5. I'd still say no. Too much money. Too risky for a declining closer. Plus, I think that number would be insulting to CK- kinda like the Lester offer.
  13. It would be funny, if it was for less than $17.9M. Even so, it solves the 2020-2021 issue, but when you count the tax on the contract, it would be an absurd number. I still think, no.
  14. This is it... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/03/chris-sale-red-sox-extension-talks-mutually-invested-rumors.html Valuing a Sale extension... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/02/valuing-a-chris-sale-extension.html
  15. BDC's blog is defunct.
  16. I'd certainly rather have Betts, Sale, Bogey, JD and JBJ over Kimbrel, if it came down to an either-or situation. Trying to set things up, so we can keep as many of those big 5 as possible will lessen the severity of the "cliff" while also keeping a solid core to begin rebuilding around after a year or tow without being highly competitive. If we can keep Betts & Sale along with Beni, Devers & ERod, we'd have a nice core to add to once we reset the tax and look to spend again afterwards.
  17. Too late. CK misjudged the market. He will still likely do better than $17.9M/1, but not by dollars per year.
  18. That's the main reason CK is a no go.
  19. I seriously doubt there are any takers out there, but in theory, if we could trade Nunez ($5M), Hembree ($1.3M) and Swihart ($900K) for a better RP'er than Hembree, while not costing the combined $7.2M, I'd be all for it. We might regret trading Nunez, if Pedey's recovery never materializes, and our IF depth is tested with just Holt, Lin & Chavis/Dalbec. We could add or sub in Thornburg ($1.75M) as well. If we really trust Chavis or Dalbec, we could consider Moreland ($6.5M), but again, who would be the "taker?" In theory, trading all of these guys would really hurt or bench, but with the $15.5M saved plus the $4M we have now, we could add one (CK?) or two decent FAs (Tony Sipp & ???) at discount rates. Not going to happen, but... Kimbrel for Hembree Centeno for Swihart Lin for Nunez Chavis for Moreland Velazquez for Thornburg
  20. $5-6M freed up by trading Nunez plus the $4-5M we have under the max line would not be enough to sign CK and avoid mega taxes and the draft penalty. I doubt DD is even thinking about CK or any way to bring him back, even if he has the okay to go over the max line. It's just not cost-effective.
  21. Knowing he'd say no. Also, it's for 1 year not the 4-5+ he was seeking.
  22. I get that, but it's never just a "sore shoulder" with Sox players. Sheesh. Plus, Sale is feeling fine now, and he's throwing. Sev is not.
  23. So, you think he starts the day after his suspension is lifted (or does not miss a start due to health issues)?
  24. I doubt the Sox would sign CK, even if he a had a great 2nd half of 2018.
