  1. True, but Kimbrel is no sure bet either- not healthwise, but performancewise.
  2. Pearce has shown signs of improving. Nunez has sucked for quite a while- going back to last year. Pearce: 1.014 over last 7 games .813 over last 11 games .750 last 365 days Nunez: .662 the last 365 days (I'll take a GG JBJ at .600 over a poor fielding .662 infielder.)
  3. Now, those managers knew how to use their studs!
  4. Well, in theory, we could use Eovaldi less, possible as an Andrew Miller type, but that would mean Weber or Johnson would have to be a decent 5th starter. Come playoff time, I'd rather have Eovaldi than Kimbrel. Perhaps during the season, Kimbrel might have worked better.
  5. Yes, and Barnes, Workman and Hembree are fine for certain roles, but even if Walden continues doing well, 4 is NOT enough. Even if Brasier rebounds, we'll need more pen help.
  6. Certainly our pen has been and was projected to be our weakest area. They've actually done better than most expected, until the last 2 games. I'm never one to call on decisions to be made over just 2 games, but just because the pen was over performing does not mean the pen is and will be fine. Chances are it won't be fine. We can try to wait for Eovaldi, in hopes that our pen can be bolstered by Weber or Johnson, but let's not kid ourselves. We've gotten away with a pretty bad pen for long enough. We may continue to see Walden, Workman, Barnes and Hembree doing well, but even if that happens, it's not enough. We need to look to trade for a solid pen arm, soon.
  7. Kimbrel is on the decline.
  8. The bottom of our order has some of our hottest hitters. 5 for 16.
  9. I've never said I was even remotely interested in signing Kimbrel. It would be a horrible move on many fronts.
  10. You may be right, but many games wouldn't end up being close, if the rest of the team was worse.
  11. Especially after you spent your wad and then some to build as great team around the pen.
  12. I usually don't get all pumped up over a series in May, and I'm pretty confident we can, at worst, make the wild card, but I do think this is a big series.
  13. I was thinking, "Go JD, Betts & JBJ!"
  14. 15. It's not uncommon for starters to pitch some relief during the playoffs, especially the 5th starter, who may not even start any games. Yes, our starters played a key role in our post season success, but several of our pen arms did very well. ERA Pitcher WHIP (IP) 0.00 Hembree 1.07 (4.2) 0.79 J Kelly 0.71 (11.1) 1.04 Barnes 1.04 (8.2) 1.04 Brasier 1.38 (8.2) 5.91 Kimbrel 1.59 (10.2) 45.00 Workman 10.00 (1.0) SP'ers (as SP & RP) 1.61 Eovaldi 0.81 (22.1) 3.46 D Price 1.15 (26.0) 3.52 Porcello 1.11 (15.1) 4.11 C Sale 1.24 (15.1) 6.30 E Rod 1.10 (10.0) Those top 4 RP'ers pitched 33.1 IP and allowed 3 ERs (0.81 ERA) and only 18 hits. 16 BBs were worrisome, but they K'd 32.
  16. I agree and am all for making a move or two to strengthen our pen.
  17. Yes, we rounded off the corners after too many people walked over the edge.
  18. While we had 6 players with 502+ PAs over the last 365 days (and 7 with 496+), the Yanks had only 2: Torres & Gardner. Here are their OPS over the past calender year: .972 Voit (389) .882 Stanton (498) .882 Judge (354) .845 Gregorius (359) .832 Hicks (474) .816 Andujar (479) .809 Torres .807 LeMahieu (217) .762 Sanchez (338) .721 Gardner .643 Bird (339) .590 Romine (293)
  19. We won last year with basically the same pen, but with a very shaky Kimbrel. We will likely have Eovaldi in the pen again this fall plus a summer acquisition or two. (Note: I do think we need to improve our pen to have a good shot at winning it all.)

  21. Well, you're lucky Eovaldi, our MVP 2Bman and our HR leader are on the IL.
  22. JBJ has clawed his way up to .600 after being at .421 on the morning of May 20th. 10 games does not make a player great, but he's been at 1.200 the last 10 games, so all this talk of "cutting his ass" is about as absurd as any position can be.
  23. First Santa, now the Easter Bunny????? What's next? The tooth fairy?
  24. Barnes has improved almost every year in the bigs, and his K/9 rate has every year: 8.0 8.2 9.6 10.7 14.0 16.2 so far this year WHIP last 5 years: 1.65 1.40 1.22 1.27 (He let up 3 Hits but 6 BBs in 8.2 playoff IP's in '18) 0.97 this year He may not be great, but he is far from "sucky".
