  1. The .403 OBP part of that .811 makes it better, but it's not all that great, yes.
  2. True, but Pedey's presence has nothing to do with our choices for the 2019 2B job. If we didn't have Chavis, Lin, Marco and Chatham, we'd be acquiring someone. It's not Pedey holding us back.
  3. It's hard for me to hold one bad statement against a guy who seemingly gave it his all for many years. Sure, it upset me and his teammates, but I'm not sure any of us know how his teammates still view him- knowing his history not just that one moment in time.
  4. I'm expecting 0 innings or PAs from Pedey, but we're paying the guy, so I'm fine with him hanging on. It's not like he's blocking anyone special or taking away a 40 man roster spot from someone worth holding onto.
  5. The $300M/10 counts as just $30M against the tax. The $240M counts as $42M. That 412M could be used to sign a nice FA. Of course, the last 4 years would be $30M vs $0. IMO, contract costs will keep rising, the next player contract with MLB will help the players make more, so I think the $60M/4 difference could be okay, even if Betts hits .780 the last 4 years combined.
  6. If a normal job still had to pay a guy for two years, they'd find something for him to do, even if he couldn't do the job he was hired to do.
  7. Yes, I was kind of thinking of the mid 80's Boggs playing in '78- kind of unrealistic, I know. It's like saying, "Imagine if we had the 1967 Yaz in 1975 or 2019.
  8. He used K rate first, until I told him he had his highest K/9 of his career in 2019, then he switched to HR/9 rates to make his point.
  9. It serves no purpose to release him. It can't hurt to see what he's got for the 17th time.
  10. We have so many slots open on the 40 man roster, we may even protect Ockimey! Plus, we'll put Pedey on the 60 day DL, once the season starts, so the only thing he effects, right now, is the number of rule 5 guys we can protect. Would anybody here cry, if we DFA'd any of these current 40 man roster guys tomorrow? Denyi Reyes Trevor Kelley Or, traded these guys for a non-40 man roster prospect? Velazquez Johnson Shawaryn Poyner Travis Brewer Lakins Brasier Weber Plus, we'll likely say good bye to JBJ, Leon & Hembree. Sure, we won't ax all 14 of these guys, but we only have 34 on the roster now and maybe 4-6 guys to protect on rule 5. Rule 5 List: Christopher Acosta Fabian Andrade Yoan Aybar Roldani Baldwin Eduard Bazardo Gary Calvo Marino Campana Pedro Castellanos Rusney Castillo CJ Chatham Edgar Corcino Jake Cosart Ricardo Cubillan Keith Curcio Bobby Dalbec Enmanuel De Jesus Chad De La Guerra Jhonathan Diaz Jerry Downs Devon Fisher Matthew Gorst Kyle Hart Tommy Joseph Trenton Kemp Matt Kent Adam Lau Kevin Lenik Nick Lovullo Everlouis Lozada Austin Maddox Tate Matheny Daniel McGrath Samuel Miranda Oddanier Mosqueda Jhon Nunez Josh Ockimey Angel Padron Yorvin Pantoja Keibert Petit Roniel Raudes Austin Rei Hildemaro Requena Jeremy Rivera Kleiber Rodriguez Jagger Rusconi Alberto Schmidt Andrew Schwaab Nick Sciortino Kevin Steen Cole Sturgeon Kervin Suarez Domingo Tapia Luke Tendler Dylan Thompson Josh Tobias Konner Wade Marcus Wilson Tom Windle Jantzen Witte
  11. The company line, "He was blocked" by Carney Lansford- same way Bagwell was blocked. (Novel idea: move Bags to 1B.) In the team's defense, Boggs was one of those rare birds who did much better in MLB than he did in the minors: He spent 6 years in the minors (counting 57 games in 1976 NYPL). Can you imagine Boggs on the 1978 team? He was under .800 in A-/A ball (174 games). He was .784 in AA (222 gms) He was .834 in AAA (266 games) .798 in all the minors combined (662 gms & 2680 PAs) He ended his ML career with a .858 OPS. He had a .906 OPS from 1982 to 1991 (10 years). He was still a respectable .778 from 1992-1997 (ages 34-41)!
  12. Do you know how serious Sale's was/is? Could they have just put him on the DL because we were out of it, and maybe it wasn't as bad as it might appear to be? Could they have given him the injection out of precaution, and maybe it's not really a sign it was/is severe tendinitis? Again, I'm not pretending to know how he'll be next year, but I'm continually surprised you seem to know for sure.
  13. So, tendinitis is uncureable. Thanks, doc. Look, I'm not saying he's going to be 100%, but he did come back a couple times, this year, and K'd more opps than ever before (K/9). Couldn't he already be dynamic enough? Couldn't he get over the tendinitis without surgery? You included a lot more "substance" than I, but there is still a good chance Sale will be fine. We'll know more after the Dr. Andrews visit.
  14. I'm thinking he must view it differently, now, but he seems to be a strange bird. Pedey went from being a "model teammate," a great "clubhouse guy" and a "hard-nosed hustling player" in the eyes of many Sox fans and baseball people to being despised by many.
  15. I agree on Machado and said "He sucks." I guess I'm just tired of hearing the same thing over and over, but I'm sure many posters feel the same way about my repetitious posts, too, so continue on. Machado deserves it.
  16. The knee is not that essential to driving a bus.
  17. He basically whiffed on every FA signing after his the Vic & first Napoli signing. His trades were okay. His IFA signings, other than Castillo, were very good, and his drafts were good, despite one unproductive one.
  18. You seem pretty sure of that breakdown, and I'm not saying there's no significant chance of a steep decline, but to me, Betts will earn his 10 year contract in his first 6-7 years of the deal. Yes, it would suck, if he was horrible the last 3-4 years, but I'd still sign they guy longterm. I think the plan will be to hover around the tgax line until July (No JBJ & Leon, at least at their arb rates), then we'll decide to keep Betts and make a playoff push- perhaps going over the tax line to do it, or trade Betts and maybe others to improve the rebuild chances and quicken the turn around. (Personally, I'd still make him a hefty offer as a FA- maybe $320/10.)
  19. I've always thought the doom & gloom projections by jacko & some Sox fans were a bit pessimistic, but it's nice to know Sale has a heart of a lion. I'm hopeful his next visit with Andrews goes well, and he's given the green light to fully prepare for 2020.
  20. True, but let's let go of this whole Pedey issue. There's nothing to be done about it. The guy tried to come back. There's 2 years left on his contract. So be it. Machado sucks!
  21. ...and he takes up no roster slot.
  22. Wonder how we missed that one before.
  23. Bets dipped and Bogey soared, but one could argue Betts, with his superior defense, was still the best on the team. I won't argue with anyone who says Bogey was better, but I also won't hold that against Betts. I don't think anyone gives him $400M, even if it's for 15 years. My guess is he gets something between $320/10 and $350/10. I'm not sure who will offer that or more.
  24. One could argue he'd have done better in Boston without the money he was given to sign HRam, Pablo and others. He showed skill in building the farm. His downfall was the FA signings. Even his lesser ones bombed: Napoli II Drew II AJ Pierzynski Sizemore Rusney Castillo (IFA) HRam Pabloto Masterson
  25. My point was more directed at fans who would give $240M/6 but let him walk over $320M/10. If none are out there, I apologize for creating a strawman.
