  1. They must really like him.
  2. Puzzling entry on MLTR 1:40PM: Momentum towards a deal is building and there’s increased optimism that a trade—or trades—will take place, and there’s a chance that an announcement could come as early as today, according to Neal. The Twins and Dodgers are in direct discussions and Heyman reports that their part of the deal is “pretty set,” with Maeda heading to the Twins and Graterol going the other way. For what it’s worth, Neal adds that the Twins are now “expected to get a little more” than Maeda. If Heyman is correct, then the last remaining hurdle will be for the Dodgers to refine their package for Betts. Speculatively, that could involve Graterol being flipped to Boston, but the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier tweeted earlier that Graterol isn’t expected to be dealt to the Red Sox as part of any trade. Graterol NOT going to BOS. LA giving more to MN than just Maeda. Makes me think Graterol goes to LA, LA gives something minor to MN and MN gives us someone they think is better than Graterol.
  3. That's pretty bold but not unrealistic. Are you banking on us sending Arauz back?
  4. I'd take Gray & Wong or Gonsolin.
  5. They may be searching for a third team in want for Maeda. I'd take Gonsolin or Stripling, but Stip is not a starter. I'd take Gray, but then I'd ask LA to take $3-6M less for Price or have them add Wong with Gray.
  6. A few things on Beni... 1) The 2019 sample sizes in differing slots for Beni were pretty small. 2) His OBP and OPS were actually better batting 1st than it was 5th (his second most PAs slot) (PAs)Slot/ OBP/ OPS (235) 1. .355/ .767 (181) 5. .315/ .704 (120) 2. .345/ .795 3) He has not always struggled in the one slot. In 2018, he had a .381 OBP and .979 OPS in the 1 slot- way better than the 2 slot (.364/.809). 4) Career by slot: (332) 1. .363/.831 (960) 2. .351/.794 (204) 3. .343/.736 (236) 4. .322/.708 The one slot is his best slot. He struggled everywhere, last year. I'm not set on having him lead off, but as of now, he looks as good as anyone else.
  7. I think we are holding out for someone who can be our 5th starter and is pre-arb. We must have really liked Graterol, before the med check, so we're probably holding out for someone we view as being just as good/promising.
  8. It would lower the AVV for 2021 and raise the 2020 AVV, which works out best for us.
  9. Agreed, and that's why resetting is so important. It wasn't a "priority:" it was a "mandate."
  10. Having Bogey, JD and Devers hitting behind him is not a bad thing.
  11. I didn't think Chavis had the mobility to play 2B, either. I'm still not sure he does. We still lack starting pitcher depth- just like last year. Here is what we have within the system- not counting who we might get as part of the Betts trade: (*opener?) Hector Velazquez Brian Johnson *D Hernandez *Ryan Weber *Tanner Houck Mike Shawaryn Kyle Hart Daniel McGrath Bryan Mata AA Denyi Reyes AA Not an inspiring list.
  12. I'd go with... 1. Beni LF 2. Bogaerts SS 3. Devers 3B 4. JD DH 5. Verdugo RF 6. Moreland 1B 7. JBJ CF 8. Vazquez C 9. Peraza 2B (I think they will put Verdugo 2nd, Bogey 3rd, JD 4th and Devers 5th- maybe flip flop JD & Devers based on LH/RH starter.) Subs: Plawecki, Chavis, Lin & Arauz (rule 5) S1 Sale S2 ERod S3 Eovaldi S4 Perez S5 D Hern (opener) or Maeda or who we get for Betts R1 Workman R2 Taylor R3 Barnes R4 Walden R5 Hembree R6 Brasier R7 Weber R8 Brice
  13. $420/10 is too much for me, but $420/13 is close to being acceptable, since the AVV is much lower. If it is front-loaded, he could maybe be traded, if he declines, too much. Betts is worth far more than $42M per year at this age. He brings in way more than that to his team.
  14. They both have incentives, but Dodger fans will be pissed. Red Sox fans- not. (Not that this is the main reason for which team blinks first.)
  15. After teasing fans, you'd think they would, and they have plenty of prospects as good as Graterol. They can also trade Maeda for a prospect to replace the one they give us.
  16. Sox salaries coming off the books over the next 3 years: After 2020: $11M JBJ $6.5M Perez (option) $3.5M Workman $2.5M Moreland (option) After 2021: $13.8M Pedey $????M ERod $4.5M Vaz (option) $??M Barnes $??M Hembree After 2022: JD Eovaldi Beni
  17. Me, too, and if he does, the deal looks even better.
  18. Exactly. Even SD wanted us to take Myers to get Betts.
  19. The Angels have had a payroll of between $146-$166M the last 5 years. Yes, you can't win by paying anyone Trout money with that payroll, but maybe you can if you spend that much on one guy and also spend $186-$243M the last 5 years. Could the Angels win had they spent $40-100M more on other players around Trout? I get the argument, and I know it's a big risk. Not spending that much on Betts makes sense, but I'd do everything I can to keep him. (I doubt it takes $420/10. He would probably sign for $400/13.)
  20. He's a good defender and may end up hitting better than JBJ. There are plenty of Margots in MLB.
  21. Just tell him you'll offer $1M over the top bidder next winter.
