    They were one team in on Eovaldi when the Sox signed him. I wonder, if they'd have interest, now or at the deadline, assuming he's healthy and doing well.

    I would not count out Houston. They were good before Cole, and they get some injured guys back and some young stars still on the incline of their careers. The only way MN wins id if they never face NY in the playoffs. TB and Oak could surprise.

    I rarely watch any non-Sox games, but I might watch a game 6 or 7 of a WS with Betts vs the Yanks.

    Puig's stock has really fallen. He could be the best bargain signing of the winter. I've said for a long time, I don't want him, but a 1 year deal can't hurt.

    Yes, but the Kennedy actual money vs lux tax money will likely not matter.

    Trading Workman, now, might make more sense. Waiting for the deadline to trade Barnes (2 yrs left) probably makes more sense.

    Our farm just got a lot better. Our budget, both for 2020 and 2021-2022, got much lighter. Our new GM is known for finding bargain players that over perform. Our core is still solid: Devers, Bogey, Sale and JD (for 1 or 3 more years). Let's just hope we don't get slapped with major draft penalties. I'm much more optimistic about our future, today.

    True, I wrote that thinking I'd put JD on my list, but I'm thinking he won't be traded, except maybe to a desperate team at the deadline.

    It's time to think about 2021 and beyond. No way do I trade anyone to focus on winning just in 2020. If it were up to me, and selling 2020 tickets wasn't an issue, I'd look to deal Workman and players I think have their stocks topped out: Barnes, Walden, Chavis & Duran. However, I'm not for handing any of these guys away. I'd want some talent who looks to be peaking in value between 2021 and 2024. (I know, easier said than done.)

    I don't think the tax will be an issue in 2020. We're enough under now and won't be in it at the deadline, so we won't be dealing to add salary. (IMO)

    I'm not thinking much about 2020, but Chavis doesn't add much to my view of the '20 2B position, anyways. I'm also not for just handing Chavis away. I suggested a JBJ & Chavis for Matz & Smith offer.

    It looked understandable, to me, despite the $4.5M more in salary. How about JBJ & Chavis for Matz and D Smith?

    Exactly. People here are complaining about paying him $35-37M a year x 10 years, but think of the cost with a 50% lux tax attached. There's no way we could have or would have signed him without resetting in 2020.

    I think his stock is as high as it will ever be.

    LOL. I'm not saying we will sign him, next winter, but if we really want him long term, this was the best way to set ourselves up to be able to afford paying him what he wants without paying mega taxes. If we were never going to sign him, then this was the best we could do. Either way, this had to be done.

    Agreed. It sucks, but I'm convinced this was the only way to go. It's better than getting nothing. Or, we have a better chance at making a top offer, now that we reset than had we kept him and not reset.

    We still need a 5th starter, but with Downs in the pipeline, we can trade Chavis.

    Trade Values has Downs at 21.7 (just under Casas). Graterol is at 14.3
