  1. Has Caim ever had a fat wallet? We know he's done pretty well with finding gems in the rough at relatively low prices, but he can continue to do that AND splurge a little on a shiny FA or two he feels will be part of a longer term plan. I expect there may not be a "mandate" other than "This is the budget- get us to respectability in 2021 and contention in 2022 where the budget will be even higher."
  2. I read that, but I don't see it as happening.
  3. The learning curve for a new catcher is likely too long for Vaz to make a big impact with a new team for 2020. I think the Rays like defensive catcher, so I'm not sure about Vaz as a fit. Maybe we roll the dice on Wong. I'm not sure Vaz is part of our plans for 2022 and beyond, so if a good deal comes along, I'd send him packing.
  4. They could add some cash and find takers for JD.
  5. True. My wording was off. I will say, not many expected them to compete this year, especially the Marlins. They also have had many years of great draft picks and larger signing pools.
  6. For a bag of new or used balls?
  7. Don't look, now, but the Marlins and White Sox are showing that turn-arounds can happen more quickly than many of us imagine.
  8. Even trading players for international pool money might be worth it.
  9. That's how I see it. Also, Workman's peripherals showed he has not been as good as he appears to have been.
  10. If we can fleece the Yanks for a decent prospect, what's the hold up? Trading Price was the right thing to do. This lost season makes it even more reasonable.
  11. The trade simulator accepted this: Eovaldi, Vaz and Chavis for Myers, Quantrill, Baez & Trammell
  12. Also, trading players that are doing well.
  13. I totally disagree. They bent over backwards to give him multiple chances to prove he belonged- way more than his performance ever showed he deserved. He ran out of options and was forced to the 25 man roster when not good enough to earn enough playing time to prove himself, but he kept failing at every opportunity he got, except that very first one as our #1 catcher before maybe he was really ready..
  14. Then, after failing, they gave him a shot at another position. More spit.
  15. Can we finally lay the "Blake never got a real chance" argument to rest? Swihart DFA'd by Rangers. (BTW, we gave Swihart way more chances than he ever earned.)
  16. Sox on MLBTR's top 50 trade deadline list: 9. Pillar 14. Barnes 18. Vaz 29. JD 48. Moreland
  17. That's my man!
  18. I do think he bailed on Ben a year too early, but Ben had long enough to lay the groundwork for DD's farm gut.
  19. Dempster wasn't all that cheap. Lucky he retired early.
  20. I think, if Bloom sees a player he really wants, he may sign him for a longer term deal with eyes on 2022 and beyond, but since 2021 will likely be a wasted cost, that player would have to really be a gem in Bloom's eyes.
  21. Some prospects are in the pools, though, or they can be added, right?
  22. Yes. I wonder what the odds are at finding someone like Perez at $6M? I'd bet rather low.
  23. I understand the bold font. My eyes are failing me, too. I'm all for trading anyone that can help us in the long run, but I'm just not sure about Beni. His stock is low, right now, and I'm thinking we may get moire for him by waiting. I'd certainly enteratin offers. Maybe some GM sees his value differently or thinks they know how to fix his issues.
  24. Even if it means trading him at his all time lowest value?
  25. I also said, at one point, something like, "we should trade everyone who will be a FA after 2020 and maybe 2021 for the best we can get, even if it's not as good as we'd like." I guess that could be interpreted as wanting to trade Perez for scraps, if that's the best we are offered, but I think someone has or will offer something valuable for him. Valuable enough is subjective. I'm not for handing Perez away, but I do think trading him now for the best we can get, regardless of what it is, makes some sense.
