  1. The super high K rate is very concerning, but as long as he can maintain a decent OBP, I'm okay with the K's. His power seems to be real. He was a decent fielder at 3B in the minors and may be better than Devers. I like his chances at becoming a plus defender at 1B and a fine back-up 3Bman. If for some reason, his defense was a mirage, he could end up replacing JD at DH in the longer term plans. While 92 PAs at the MLB is way too small a sample size, his .359 OBP was impressive and right in line with his overall minor league OBP of .362. I agree, I don't see Sanchez as being a fit with Boston, unless they think they can fix his defense enough to play the catcher position- highly doubtful.
  2. He's not getting over 130-145 IP in 2021, no matter what, so why not?
  3. If he was any good, defensively, somebody would snatch him up, in hopes his bat comes back, but I doubt anyone wants him at that cost.
  4. To me, the word "over confident" implies, too much, usually to the point of becoming a negative influence- like being too cocky. taking winning for granted or resting on your laurels. That's not to say, some cocky or overconfident players, especially in team sports where other players have influence, go on to win, and in a sense "justify" their confidence, but I can see you viewpoint, too. They have such an extreme form of confidence, that it seems beyond our understanding or comprehension- to the point of being "over." Michael Jordan knew those last-second shots were going to go in.
  5. To take this a step further, I would argue the very best players in any sport are supremely confident. I'm not sure I would call it "over confidence," if they are, indeed, the very best of the best and having supreme confidence does not hurt them in any way.
  6. I agree on both points. I do think we may see some surprises, but many of these "bubble" players will be traded rather than non-tendered.
  7. I'm Glad you noticed. There's not many other well-known trash bag brands.
  8. A lot of baseball people drink. Do they drink enough to be labeled "drunks?" Likely, many do. It's the driving part that shows irresponsibility, especially at that age.
  9. A Hefty statement to make!
  10. Yes, Hefty was too good a brand to label them.
  11. Celebrating the new job!
  12. I can see us passing on 2B acquisitions- giving the 3-4 guys we have, now, a chance to shine. I'm thinking we go cheap and short term in CF, in hopes that Duran shows improvement. That leaves almost all the resources for pitching.
  13. Cora is Samsonite. Those guys are are hefty trash bags.
  14. I agree. It won't be easy to win a lot, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
  15. Here's another one: TO CIN Bogaerts Beni Chavis TO BOS Winkler Akiyama Bradley (Then, we sign Simmons and a good pitcher)
  16. I get what you are saying and see what you are trying to get at.
  17. That's why I added "move Bogey to 3B?"
  18. Yes, and that speaks to my point about maybe this being the winter to pounce on other teams' needs to cut salary, maybe to the point of being desperate to do so. I'm not saying take on bloated contracts, but look for bargains on some mid-ranged contracts.
  19. If Bloom was not allowed to spend money and was told to dump Price's salary, how can he be blamed for much of anything. I guess, if you don't believe in my first two premises, then it's reasonable, but I think Bloom did a pretty good job signing Perez. I didn't so, at the time, but he pitched well for what we were allowed to pay. If a ball is hit to a SS, and it hits a pebble and bounces over his head, is he to blame? Bell, is he "responsible?" I kinda think you have to do something wrong or neglect doing something right to get any blame.
  20. Here is one accepted by MLBTradeValues: To ATL Bogey ($20M x 2) (Bogey to 3B?) To BOS Wil Smith ($13M x 2) Ender Inciarte (9.7M x 1) ($19.4M combined on lux tax budget) AJ Minter(RP: 3 arbs left) PLUS: Contreras © prospect Harris (OF) prospect
  21. Yes, we used to think Bogey had signed a team-friendly contract. It may not be so, as of right now. Like I said, I'm not for handing him away. Maybe we trade him for a pitcher making $8M/yr and a prospect and then sign Simmons for $12M/yr. We break even on the money, add a pitcher and improve the farm.
  22. Pretty much all trades are made with both sides thinking they got what they needed, even if the "what they needed" was just cutting their budget. Many trades are made every year.
  23. I've never been high on Bogey's D at a position I have a strong bias towards excellent defense, but I don't like trading him, either. With no Betts and an aging JD, we need his bat in the line-up. It's only his opt-out that gives me reason to consider a trade. Yes, trading him would create a big need area, but signing someone like Simmons would actually save money and add to our future spending budget while greatly improving our SS defense. Now, filling that offensive gap will not be easy, even with the added budget space. However, if the savings helps fill a pitching need, then considering a trade might make sense: Lose Bogey's offense Gain a player or two in return that maybe fills 2 need areas or one with a good prospect. Sign Simmons (gain on SS D) and a pitcher for the same money Bogey is making. We could see 4 pluses for losing Bogey's offense. I AM NOT for handing him away.
  24. LOL. You are correct, but I often think of the posters who say, "I'd never trade ____!" aren't think of the possibility of a better return. Also, some trades can be "better returns" for both sides, if they fill specific needs for both teams.
