  1. We have Andriese and Whitlock, so we could go “opener” or pen game.
  2. If we go with 14 pitchers, and some are long men like Andriese and Whitlock or 2-3 inning guys like DHern and Valdez, maybe having a pen game here and there wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
  3. I totally agree, but one could argue this would be the perfect season to try Devers at 1B and to see what Dalbec can do at 3B.
  4. My guess is Dalbec is better than Devers on defense at 3B, so if Devers fails to improve, a flip could happen over the winter. It might take a clear disparity to move Devers off 3B.
  5. I think Devers could be very good at 1B. I’ve read good things about Casas, too. I think he’ll be called up in 2022 or September.
  6. I’d start the year with 13 pitchers and maybe bump to 14 after we start the first long stretch with no days off (mid April).
  7. The big unknown is who is better at 1B defense, Casas or Devers, assuming Dalbec moves to 3B. My guess is the choices will be easy mid season or next winter.
  8. Yes, and Valdez, Whitlock and maybe Taylor and Sawamura, too.
  9. Andriese pitched multiple innings in STing and will likely be our long man, so moving him to starter, if needed, seems like choice #1, if someone goes down. Choice 2 could be Houck, Seabold & Whitlock.
  10. If GMS and managers went by promise over the pretty much known quantities, we’d see a lot of changes in MLB. On the Sox, DHern would be our closer. I certainly see more upside with Houck but maybe a lower floor, too. The options make it tough to pick Houck as we will likely use 20+ pitchers this year, and Houck should get plenty of opportunities to show he belongs. Plus, Houck will be on Limited IP or pitch count anyway.
  11. He does still have a lot of promise, but Andriese has looked good, too and is out of options.
  12. I guess how well Devers does at 3B, this year, may help determine where Bobby ends up, assuming he does well. I brought up this point in response to the statement- not by you- about not seeing Dalbec as the 1Bman of the future.
  13. What’s a mediocre OBP? Here are the league averages from ‘17-‘19 .322 all .334 1B only Dalbec has a career OBP over .360, but it’s fair to expect a drop in the majors.
  14. There hasn’t been a big gap between the league OPS at 1B vs 3B over the last few years, but if Dalbec can be an average defender at third, does having him play 3B make him more likely to stick?
  15. I don’t recall it being him.
  16. Andriese will likely get the call before Houck, as well.
  17. I still think the chances are we need the 32 year old Houck years from now more than we need him in a rebuild season. Had Houck not had those 17 IP in 2020, this wouldn’t even be talked about.
  18. Who was the guy on BDC who accused everyone of having 2nd identities?
  19. Casas should not be called up to platoon. He needs to play everyday, except for rest days- same as JD and Devers. This would mean Dalbec starts once every 2 weeks.
  20. Pitchers are often very good at age 32.
  21. These guys are creatures of habit. I wouldn’t mess with their timing. We’d likely switch to 5 at some point and mess with them again.
  22. Sorry for using the phrase “give up on” when you clearly did not mean that. Someone just accused me of giving up on Houck, so I know how you feel. If Casas is called up to play 1B full time, Dalbec would get very few PAs.
