  1. We may focus more on building up the farm (Beni trade) and roster depth- both can improve our longer term outlook, while roster depth can help in 2021. I do think we sign or acquire at least two players that will significantly help our 2021 roster and maybe beyond.
  2. The guy kills lefties (.820 OPS in almost 900 PAs). His .673 OPS vs RHP is not horrible for a 2Bman. Arroyo actually hits righties better than lefties (.678 to .597). Chavis .740 v RHP and .699 v LHP. Between the 3 of them, we'll be improved at 2B with Kike. Also, if we skimp on CF, he could get some time there, if an OF'er struggles (like Beni vs LHPs) or Arroyo or Chavis surprise us with an uptick. Holt was a pretty important piece to our past teams, so could Kike, especially when we are carrying a DH only DH. .
  3. I do, too. I'm pretty certain I'll be fine with the final winter results, and many times, additions come in a flurry.
  4. That's only $20M, and Marisnik may get just $1.5-2M, no?
  5. He must be anticipating some of the moves he has in the works coming through.
  6. I think he'd be a nice signing. Kind of the "under the rdar" type signing Bloom is known for- although other teams are in on the "secret."
  7. Man-Oh-Man! We need something to talk about!
  8. I might go with something like this: Odorizzi (13), Colome (6.5), Rosenthal (6.5), Kike (2.5), Marisnik (1.5)
  9. I think K Hernandez will just cost $1.5M to $2.5M. Maybe you meant C Hernandez. We may want to keep $1-2M for the deadline. We could also trade Beni for a cheap CF'er, 2Bman or RP'er and add some budget space that way. Your plan would make me happy.
  10. I was implying he's better than 3-4 pitchers on our 12-13 man staff. I was also thinking someone will be hurt or use him as a RP'er, or move Houck to the pen or start him in AAA. I'd rather have Happ than Perez, but we already signed Perez. Note: I would not have paid him $8M, but he's better than Perez and more reliable than Eovaldi. I have big questions about Pivetta, but having Happ over Pivetta is probably worthwhile, too.
  11. Agree, but only after an extensive physical evaluation and or waiting to see how he does by midway through 2021.
  12. This is exactly how I see it, and for those thinking we've lost out on all the best players, there is still plenty of talent on the market at all the positions we need. Not counting trade possibilities: SP Bauer (near impossible we sign him) Odorizzi, Tanaka, Paxton Walker or Richards, Wainwright, Porcello, C Hamels or Archer Closer Hand (very unlikely we sign him) Rosenthal Colome RP Melancon, Green, McGee Soria, O'Day, Kintzler CF (Ozuna - trade Beni & acquire a CF'er or Verdugo to CF- Renfroe to RF) JBJ (too much $$$?) Pillar or Gardner Marisnik, B Hamilton 2B Semien or K Wong La Stella, C Hernandez K Hernandez, B Miller, Profar, Villar or Schoop 1B?: Moreland (why?)
  13. No, he isn't, and he could easily prove me wrong. They guy has done great in the playoffs, but watching him a lot, down here in Houston, I just get a bad vibe. He'll turn 32, this season. It's hard to knock is .953 OPS since 2019 and 53 HRs in 663 ABs over those 173 games, so we'll see.
  14. I didn't mean sign them, but I'd take Happ on our staff over 3-4 of our projected opening day pitchers.
  15. I was thinking the same thing...way better.
  16. I said basically this same exact thing when we blew up the 2012 team but played it "halfway." What did I know?
  17. I'd think so, but it didn't bother him with Springer, who I see as possibly being the next Carl Crawford.... possibly.
  18. I think I proposed that very trade a while back on BTV. I've suggested many trades with PIT- most involving Taillon, some 3-ways where we trade Vaz to a 3rd team and get Stallings & Taillon or Frazier. Can't Frazier also play CF? If yes, can he do it well?
  19. Would you rather have Happ in 2021 or not? (pretend money does not matter) How about Tanaka? How about Paxton? I wish the Sox had all 3, right now.
  20. Funny. I remember you defending Happ, when I was saying ERod was better. Happ ate a lot of innings and was one of your best pitchers from 2019-2020. That's not saying he was great or even good. fWAR 2019-2020 4.1 Tanaka 3.8 Paxton 2.0 German 1.9 Happ 1.8 Green 1.5 Cole (1 short season) 1.0 Montgomery 0.8 Gracia 0.4 Sabathia (retired B4 2020) 0.2 Loaisiga IP 230 Tanaka 211 Happ 171 Paxton 143 German 107 Sabathia 95 Green 73 Cole*
  21. I'm thinking Bauer is 50-50 LAD or TOR. It would seem like a waste for TOR to spend all this cash and not fill their biggest need.
  22. He was first on my mind. Closer was and still is one of our top 2 priorities, IMO.
  23. My guess is they sign Bauer or one of Odorizzi, Paxton or Tanaka, but even that may not be enough. BTW, Ryu is not all that bad.
  24. Rosy outlook, indeed. Somehow, if the Sox had lost 3 of their best pitchers over the past 2 years and replaced them with Kluber, prospects & head cases, you'd be singing a different tune.
  25. Adding Yates helped, too.
