  1. That is a wonderful thing, but as bad as they have been, they are just 1.5 off the last WC slot. They have cap space for a deadline trade or two.
  2. I think his going against the team's recommended workout regime was the final straw. I think his defense was not what they expected. He made his share of base-running blunder but was not really a bad runner. His offense was sporadic and streaky. He looks like he'd be better than Cordero, but if we kept him, we might not have signed Renfroe and even if we did, he'd be taking away Kike or Arroyo's PAs. Let's stop pretending that would be a huge difference maker. Yes, Beni>>>Cordero. No, Beni >>> Kike/Arroyo. Beni >Kike/Arroyo offensive, yes, but not >>>. He's only been marginally better, this year and had just one more arb year left. .782 Beni (.788 career) .731 Arroyo (.664 career, but .723 after his rookie 2017 season) .669 Kike (.732 career)
  3. I'd like to see us try Arroyo at lead off. I know he's not a great leadoff-type hitter, but he's been getting on base more than anyone else not named Verdugo, Bogey, JD or Devers. I know, I know, you ask "but what about his .283 OBP career before this year?" I have no answer for that, and I'm usually the one saying don't make big decisions based on 90to 100 PAs or even 200-350, but when you look at all the other options, it's slim pickings. This team used to highly value OBP. I think that's one reason Dalbec was given a long look at 1B, this year. He had a very nice OBP in the minors, but so far, it has not transferred. Santana has very good speed, but it's not worth much on home run trots or with a .220 OBP, like he has in this tiny sample size of a season for him. His career mark is .298, so I think it's fair to say, he's far from being an ideal lead-off hitter. Kike was given a chance and maybe can win it back, but his .283 OBP, this year was not cutting it. While his .310 career mark is better than Santana's and others, it was .296 from 2019-2020- which is worse than Santana's last 2 years. Renfroe's power is needed in the 6 slot, and his .306 OBP, this season is not all that great either. Other players' career OBP and 2021's: .333 Arauz (in AAA and only 90 PA sample size) .400, this year in 10 PAs .315 Marwin (in a horrific slump, all year) .291, this year .312 Plawecki (doesn't play everyday) .310, this year .307 Vaz (.293, this year) .293 Arroyo (.326, this year) .289 Dalbec (.248 this year) .285 Franchy (AAA) Going just by the OBP numbers and weighting 2021 numbers equally with career numbers, it looks like we have 2 choices: A. Arroyo B. Vaz/Plawecki I vote A. .302 Chavis
  4. He's pitched twice for the Sox, this year, and already we know he never can and never could pitch a clean inning.
  5. No, I'm not, and being critical is not a bad thing. Bashing & hating is another thing. BTW, was there a reason JD got another day off?
  6. Stallings is a pretty good catcher and has 3 years of team control left after this year. I just had this trade accepted on BTV: Rolando Hernandez, Chavis, Ward & Groome to PIT for Adam Frazier and Richard Rodriguez After this year, Frazier has one more year of control- Rodrigues two. It would have accepted the trade without Ward or Groome, but I don't think PIT makes this deal with even both.
  7. MLB.com updated their mock draft: 1.Mayer to Pitt 2. Davis to TX 3. Leiter to DET 4. Lawlar to BOS 5. House to BAL 6. Rocker to AZ
  8. Well, sometimes players are drafted and don't sign and go or return to college, instead. I guess it's not an exact science. Remember Mark Appel?
  9. AL Standings 37-23 TBR 35-23 BOS WC 35-23 CWS 35-25 OAK 31-25 CLE tied for last WC 32-26 HOU tied for last WC 30-26 TOR -1.0 WC 31-28 NYY -1.5 29-27 KCR -2.0 NL 37-21 SFG 36-23 SDP WC 34-24 LAD WC 32-26 CHI 32-26 MIL -2.0 WC 27-23 NYM 31-28 STL -3.5 WC (-1.5 NL Central) 27-29 ATL & CIN -6.0 WC (-3.0 NL East) 27-30 PHI -6.5 WC (-3.5 NLE) All three top teams are from the NLW, which means both Wild Cards would come from the same division.
  10. Or Renfroe, who has an arb year left after this year.
  11. Big chance, here, to put some more distance between us the Yanks. Kick 'em when their down! The bats seem to be reawakening at just the right time and not just from the big 4. The pen seems to be back on track. The rotation is still carrying us, and this is a big start for Richards. Coming through, today, would be HUGE!
  12. What happened is that all the doubters and bashers scraped their knees jumping off and back on the bandwagons so many times, it's not even funny. It's actually sad to watch it every game. I had to take a break from it all.
  13. This was obviously just a bridge year to 2022. Only one guy was signed for longer than a year (kike)and that was just for 2 years. He waited to fill 2B, CF and 1B, so his top prospects could get a look at some point. He'll have plenty of cash to spend, next year and has nice options on Richards & Perez. He should have a lot of key questions answered- for good or bad, and the biggest choices start, this winter. He will ultimately be judged on this winter and beyond, IMO. He's shown he can find some gems in the rough, and that is important, but the big moves will mean more than anything he's done to date, except for the Betts deal.
  14. Who knows. He deserves a shot, but maybe not at the 1 slot.
  15. Besides Downs and Wong, he got Rolando Hernandez for 2 scrub pitchers everyone wanted DFA'd. He picked up Jeisson Rosario, my sleeper pick this year, Hudson Potts and recently Valdez. He drafted Nick Yorke & Blaze Jordan, too. Pillar was a nice pick up, last year. Maybe none will work out, and you can gloat.
  16. He also looked pretty good in something like 7 IP in ST'ing.
  17. Why leave out Verdugo, Renfroe, Arroyo, Plawecki and some minor league position players with promise? BTW, it's not stupid, if it's true. Your disdain for Bloom is well documented.
  18. It must be killing you to watch Bloom's team win so much.
  19. You'd like that. Reason enough not to. LOL.
  20. You're down to one PA sample sizes, now? LOL.
  21. Well, I stayed away from the game thread for 3 straight games, and we won all 3. I guess I have to stay away some more. Reading back a few pages, I guess the negativity hasn't let up. It's unrealistic to think it ever will. The offense came to life. ERod showed sigs of turning the corner. Some struggling bats came a live a bit. Devers is keyed in. Line shots everywhere.
  22. Obviously no, and I never said that. I said it was a bigger factor than a most recent 50 PA sample size. Plus, players get extended, get hurt, have big seasons or bad ones (not tiny sample sizes) that all affect their value, but years of team control and what cost is certainly a significant factor.
  23. I seriously doubt GMs set value based primarily on most recent small sample sizes. Years of team control, contractual costs and projected performance is likely all higher ranked than a tiny sample size.
  24. He's hitting below his career norm and has less and less team control with every passing day.
  25. He's a couple oh for 4's from equaling Cordero's OPS.
