  1. I think good pitching beats good hitting, too- most of the time. However, it’s not the reason for every win and loss.
  2. Agreed. One major factor in Mookie’s success is his off the charts “twitch reflexes.” How many studies have been done on how well that ages?
  3. If you look at all our ring years, they all had a lot of starts from the top 5 or 6 starters. That’s a good sign for 2021, but technically, Sale is a top 5 starter, so we’ve had a lot of starts from our #6 and 2 from our #7.
  4. There is a chance we have the best record in the AL after tonight! Again!
  5. It’s not easy winning in KC, but I agree.
  6. If you look at the ratios of big to small, the results look about even.
  7. We may not be as good as we were before a couple weeks ago, but we can’t keep winning by pitching like this.
  8. More than most: JUNE Team OPS: .931 HOU .839 LAA .818 OAK .805 TOR .776 MN .762 DET .762 NYY .755 BAL .732 CWS .727 CLE .723 KCR .721 BOS .713 SEA .686 TBR .623 TEX
  9. Who? .576 Marwin? .460 Santana? Call-up.501 Cordero & move .650 Kike to 1B? I guess .758 Chavis is an option, but Dalbec has a better OPS than that over his last 11 games. Ockimey? Casas?
  10. Updated AL Standings 43-26 CWS 43-27 OAK 43-27 TBR 42-27 BOS (1/2 behind TBR and 1 GB best AL record) 40-28 HOU 38-28 CLE 36-32 NYY (SEA, LAA & TOR all 1 game under .500) Friday's games: A's (Kapreielian)@ NYY (Taillon) Rays (Wacha) @ SEA (Kikuchi) CWS (Rodon) @ HOU (Garcia)
  11. Kyle Seager singles in winning run. Rays lose 3rd straight.
  12. SEA just tied the Rays in the bottom of the 9th. Man on 2nd and 3rd, one out.
  13. Arroyo is not a hole. We need pitching, pitching, pitching and maybe a 1Bman or OF'er before 2B.
  14. I don't see a big roster crunch. Ward won't need rule 5 protection. We lose ERod, Barnes, Ottavino, Marwin & Santana and only need 3 replacements: SP, RP, RP. (Two slots gained, there.) The 4-6 Rule 5 players or added FAs can replace any 4 from: Yacksel Rios Brandon Workman Matt Andriese (trade or don't enter arb) Connor Wong (trade?) Michael Chavis (trade?) Huson Potts (trade?) Phillips Valdez (trade?) Now, if Bloom wants to sign 5 free agents instead or 3 bigger ones, we might have a squeeze. Rule 5, this winter: Jecorrah Arnold Brayan Bello Cole Brannen Gary Calvo Marco Cardoso Pedro Castellanos Felix Cepeda Kole Cottam Kutter Crawford Ricardo Cubillan Osvaldo De La Rosa Tyler Dearden Jonathan Diaz Danny Diaz Jeter Downs Jarren Duran Tyler Esplin Durbin Feltman Ryan Fernandez Ryan Fitzgerald Antoni Flores Frank German Rio Gomez Devlin Granberg Gilberto Jimenez Jose Larez Dominic LoBrutto Bryan Lucas Charlie Madden Alan Marrero Elih Marrero Joan Martinez Alexander Montero Robinson Montero Oddanier Mosqueda Brendan Nail Brett Netzer Tanner Nishioka Kaleb Ort Yusniel Padron-Artiles Aaron Perry Beiker Pineda Antonio Police AJ Politi Ceddanne Rafaela Oscar Rangel Tyreque Reed Jesus Rosillo Yasel Santana Zach Schellinger Alex Scherff John Schreiber Gregori Segovia Chase Shugart Miguel Suero Jake Thompson Wilker Vargas Thaddeus Ward Grant Williams Josh Winckowski
  15. He's certainly been injured much moresince joining the Yanks, but after his 150 games played in his second season with MIA, he had these game totals: 123 116 145 74 119 159 (Career high in year before trade) With NYY 158 18 23 (COVID Season) 47, so far in 2021
  16. Yanks now down 4-3 in 5th. HOU over CWS 7-0 in 6th.
  17. Constant injuries and maybe never a chance to get into a long groove. The 2 times he had over 601 PAs before going to NY, he led the league in HRs with 37 and 59.
  18. Forget any factors about getting up with men on base or not, the #1 guy getting up to 150 more PAs than the #9 guy has to be significant. If we batted our 4 best hitters 6-9 and our worst 4 hitters 1-2-3-4, we're talking about swinging over 500 PAs from our best (.800-1.000) to our worst (.480-.680).
  19. Sometimes it's also about which 9 to play.
  20. They hardly ever even get into or finish 6, anymore. That being said, our starters rank 8th in IP, this year with 360.1 in 69 games. That's about 5 and a third per start, so I guess we've gone into the 6th quite often- just not lately.
  21. Here are some example of players the Rays have acquired over the years, who end up having a career year or more with them. Please feel free to add more names. An equally long list could be complied of very good Rays players that were traded, sometimes in or before their prime, who went on to stink for their new teams, including Carl Crawford, Archer, Kazmir, Cobb, Odorizzi and now, apparently Blake Snell. Carlos Pena .789 in 7 seasons prior to TB 1.037 in 2007 (a year after playing for the Sox at .776) .871 in 2008 .893 in 2009 He dropped off after those 3 seasons (.723) with some being with the Rays. Jason Bartlett .702 with MN in 5 seasons (only one over .700) .879 the second year with the Rays in 2009 (.752 in 3 years.) .591 with the Padres after being traded to them for 4 prospects in 2010. Rafael Soriano 2.92/1.037 WHIP in 8 good seasons before TB 1.73/0.802 in one season with TB (2010) 2.94/1.215 in 2 years with the Yanks 3.15/1.181 in 2 yrs with WSH after NYY 3.13/1.206 total after leaving TB Steve Pearce .756 from 2007-2015 .729 w BAL in 2016 .908 w TB in 2016 .768 after leaving the Rays, although he did very well in 2018 TOR/BOS Logan Morrison (L0ts of 1Bmen do well in TB) .742 pre TB .813 w TBR '16-'17 .636 after TBR Tommy Pham .828 w STL pre TB .870 w TBR '18-'19 .695 after TB CJ Cron .756 LAA .816 TBR '18 .789 after Travis d'Arnaud .707 in 7 years with the Mets .783 in 2019 w Rays .813 w ATL after Last but not least, another ex Sox... Casey Kotchman .717 pre TB, including .572 w BOS in 2009 .800 w TBR in 2011 .589 after and out of baseball in 3 years after leaving (only age 30).
