  1. .691 OPS against first half .641 OPS against second half Career
  2. Could we see the Sox trade someone like Potts, Rosario and Bazardo for a better RP'er, then turn around and trade Richards and cash for a prospect?
  3. Please explain. If HR% is mostly a fluke, then how is HR/FB not mostly a fluke?
  4. I could see Bloom buying and selling, but I can't really think of who he'd sell. Richards? Perez? Would he get much for either one? Would he then maybe trade some prospects not likely to make next year's roster for a RP'er? More likely, he makes a minor trade that hopefully works out like the Eovaldi or Pearce trades of 2018.
  5. My placement of Downs was more about me liking Bello than disliking Downs. I can see Jimenez below Downs.
  6. crappy loss. Glad it’s a 162 game schedule. Boycotted my own thread again. It’s up to someone else now to get the next win.
  7. What's not to like/love? This kid has all the skills to be something very special. Changing positions and hitting approaches slowed his arrival time a bit, but he's here, now, and I'm certain he's here to stay. What a big boost he can be to a team walking a budget line and looking to get even better over the next few years.
  8. A 12% HR/FB does not mean you don't have good command, either. He also had a career 47.2% GB rate. That's pretty nice. You probably have to have nice command to get players to hit GBs so often.
  9. 121 means he's 21% better than average. Don't forget this kids age when called up. He had an understandable "off" season at age 21 with a .731 OPS (94 OPS+) which brought his career number down. That was a 490 PA season. I don't hold early seasons against players, especially ones brought up very young. Devers has always been playing above his age group since day 1 in the minors. Devers also started out slowly, as he often does, in 2020, and the season was cut short before he could bring it up past 109(OPS+). Here's his OPS+ since age 22: 133 109 (short season) 149 133 combined 2019-2021.
  10. They are going to bring Sale up, unless there is a setback. He's going to pitch and take up a roster spot on the 26. I don't think anyone is expecting him to be or even become our ace, but we're talking roster slots and possible trades for a pitcher that would further squeeze the roster. Options remaining on 26 man bubble pitchers: 0- Workman, Andriese, Perez, Pivetta (not a bubble) 1- Rios, Brasier 2- DHern, Valdez Of course, Bloom will stretch to keep as many good pitchers on the 40 man as reasonable, but how valuable is Andriese? Workman seems like an easy DFA, but we have some tough decisions to make just on the Sale and Sawamura call-ups. If we add a trade pitcher or Brasier/Andriese, then what?
  11. One could look at this over performing staff as evidence Vaz is handling the staff very well. As for playing a lot... % of games played 87% 2021 (85/98) 76 games started at C (78%) 78% 2020 (47/60) 41 games started at C (68%) 85% 2019 (138/162) 103 GS'd at C (64%) One could argue, he needs more rest. One could argue Plawecki might do better (and better than Vaz), if he plays a little more.
  12. LOL. "im" is how it's pronounced, anyway.
  13. Everyone of our pitchers have question marks. I get that. My point is, if we trade for a pitcher, who gets bounced? It looks hard to figure out just with Sale and Sawamura coming back. Even if we go with 13, someone has to be on the IL or gets squeezed out (demoted if options/DFA'd or traded if no options.) Sale Eovaldi ERod Pivetta Perez Richards Barnes Ottavino Whitlock Houck Taylor DHern___ (12 man staff) Sawamura (IL)___ (13 man staff) Valdez Brasier (IL>rehab) Rios Andriese Workman Seabold Even if ERod or Sale aren't on the staff, we still have Valdez, Brasier and others. I hope we get a pitcher, but I'm only asking who goes?
  14. I've always been high on Jimenez. So, do we see this, assuming Duran and Houck both graduate this year? 1. Mayer 2. Casas 3. Jimenez 4. Bello 5. Downs 6. Seabold 7. Yorke 8. A Ramirez 9. Groome 10. Fabian/Mata/Song
  15. Of course I was assuming top health, so answer my question based on a possible faulty scenario... Who is demoted or DFA'd to make room for Andriese?
  16. Locking him up, now, before his arb years end may lessen the cost, somewhat. Who knows how Bloom views Devers or large and long contracts. His time in TB shouldn't count. His pre-emptive move with Betts is just one example. His budget has been restricted since he started. If the budget opens up, this winter, like I think it will, we might see a side of Bloom nobody has seen before.
  17. That may all be true, but who gets bounced from a 12 man staff? Sale, Eovaldi, ERod, Pivetta, Perez, Richards Barnes, Ottavino, Houck, Whitlock, Taylor, DHern Even a 13 man staff. Sawamura Valdez Brasier Rios Workman I know you've never been high on Valdez, but I'd take him over Andriese. Sawamura is a lock for the 13th slot, IMO.
  18. What makes you think I'm looking at just OPS or this year's OPS numbers? It's no secret I'm no fan of how Vaz has handled our staffs over the years, but here are the OPS numbers from 2020-2021: .769 Plawecki (167 PAs) .697 Vaz (510 PAs) That's 73 points. I'm not saying bench Vaz, but just to play Plawecki a little more and see what happens. I realize 1Bmen are supposed to hit and catchers catch, but Vaz has been pretty awful at the plate after 2 years of near .800 hitting. I'm not sure what's up with him, but he has gotten a free pass among a crowd of posters that seem to bash just about everything and everyone in the game threads.
  19. Sox OPS Against .498 Barnes (Kojiesque) .571 Ottavino (quietly putting up great numbers) .600 Whitlock (steal of the winter) .621 Houck (just 74 PAs against, but WOW!) .623 Rios (I was wrong about him.) .635 Valdez (back in the saddle again) .673 Taylor (been great since April) .685 Eovaldi (steady Nate) .695 DHern (still an enigma) .743 Pivetta (the difference maker) .757 Sawamura (ups and downs) .762 Workman (perhaps the odd man out) .775 ERod (on the rise, until last night?) .794 Perez (top 5th starter in baseball?) .851 Richards (to the pen when Sale returns?) .942 Andriese (Will he even get another chance?)
  20. Updated Sox OPS .939 Dever (just passed the formidable JD) .935 JD (hanging steady) .903 Bogey (wrist bothering him) (.886 Duran in 17 PAs) .792 Arroyo (on the IL again) .789 Kike (about to pass Arroyo) .765 Renfroe (needs to get hot) .759 Verdugo (showing signs of heating back up) .668 Plawecki (maybe he needs to play more) .656 Dalbec (just when you think he's getting better...) .637 Vaz (getting a free pass from posters) .583 Marwin (IL) .578 Chavis (days are numbered?) .501 Cordero (placeholder for Arroyo)
  21. Let's see what the new CBA brings, but I have to think Devers is a keeper. He brings so much life and energy to the team. He's the spark. He's also his own kind of hitter that often gets to an opposing pitcher in a groove, because he's not like a typical hitter. He can hit junk for HRs. He can hit balls 8 inches out of the K zone for HRs. He can look silly for 2-3 ABs, then BAM! DEVERS FOREVERS! LOCK HIM UP!
  22. I think it's a stupid name. In this day & age, it's worse than lame. I think "Rock" or "Rockers" would have been much better, but I'm sure there could have been an even better one.
  23. That's a nice club of 3 to belong to.
  24. I agree on Feltman. The more I read about Mayer, the more I think he'll be our #1 prospect right away. Casas is not really doing anything special. Downs has a .609 OPS and Duran in in the ML's now.
