  1. I never said he was any good- just better than before. 7.94 (1.012 OPS) first 21 games with us. 0.00 (.367 OPS) last 6 games. Also, Austin Davis: 5.44 before BOS 5.11 (.753 OPS) first 12 games 0.00 (.558) last 5 games
  2. Semien hit his 40th. Min up just 2-1, now.
  3. Voit just made it 11-3.
  4. Of course, but so little is know of long term covid affects and there is plenty of evidence that some people feel totally better, then get weak and tired again. I'm not saying ERod may relapse, but it is probably a concern. I do know, ERod is a winner. The Sox win when he pitches, and we may have the best record with him pitching since 2018 than any other ML pitcher and team in MLB. That being said, I know wins are team stats, but ERod almost always does what it takes to keep us close enough to win. I'd offer the QO, but would not be upset, if he turns it down and we get a sandwich pick. If he takes it, it might be an overpay, but it's just a one year gamble. I'm not saying it's a slam dunk choice, but it's not an easy one, either.
  5. To all those who thought we had to go 10-4 or 9-5 in our last 14, because the Yanks and Jays were supposed to win as much or more, maybe they weren't as good as we thought. Maybe trends don't always continue. (Actually, no "maybe" about it.)
  6. 2022 Roster 24 Keepers: Bogey Barnes Sale Devers JD M Eovaldi Taylor DHern Dalbec Verdugo Valdez Pivetta Arroyo Houck Mata Groome Wong Seabold Whitlock Renfroe Kike Sawamura R Hernandez Duran 3 Options: Vaz -yes Perez -no Richards- probably due to $1.5M buy out Schwarber- mutual- will opt out JD M- will likley not opt out 7 Rule 5: Bello Downs Jimenez V Santos Winckowski Crawford Feltman 34 Total + 6 Free Agents, Acquisitions or from below: DFA/ Trade/ Borderline: Brasier Arauz Plawecki Rosario Potts Bazardo Cordero Rios Davis Munoz -DFA Hartlieb-DFA Lopez-DFA Cottam (5) Dearden (5) Esplin (5) German (5) Granberg (5) Ort (5) T Reed (5) T Ward (5)
  7. I'm not sure any of these guys get DFA'd or traded, but they are the ones that will be borderline after all is said and done. Remember, we will likely add 3-5 free agents or trade additions. My point was, I won't be upset, if any of these guys end up being dealt or booted to make room for the rule 5 guys and better free agents.
  8. We do need a nice infield utility guy that can hit better than Marwin, but I'm not sure about Shaw.
  9. Your winning streak prevented Boone from getting axed. Now, it bites you in the ass.
  10. We keep making hard last outs, but at least we score some beforehand.
  11. I think that "rest" was all he needed!
  12. It would only be worth it, if it was more than all the other teams combined, right?
  13. If ERod has lasting effects from Covid, a $19M/1 deal might be better than $40M/3.
  14. MIN up quickly on TOR 2-0. CLE now 10-0 on NYY.
  15. It's a close call. He's done very well his last 15 starts. The team wins when he starts and has since 2018. A QO is just a one year investment.
  16. ERod missed the whole 2020 season with COVID, and it wasn't just a mild case. He had serious issues, including heart problems. I'm not sure "embarrassed" is a good word to us, and besides, he has a 3.93 ERA over his last 15 starts. (3.32 FIP)
  17. ERA as Starter 2.40 Sale (6 GS) 3.52 Eovaldi (29) 4.02 Houck (12) 4.55 Pivetta (27) 4.77 Perez (22) 5.00 ERod (28) 5.22 Richards (22) OPS Against as Starter (PAs Against) .670 Houck (228) .686 Eovaldi (701) .730 Pivetta (601) .756 Sale (126) .777 ERod (609) .844 Perez (445) .868 Richards (504)
  18. True, but he's basically been our #2, until Sale returned.
  19. We may trade someone, but I don't see the big need to clear a roster spot for someone like Potts, Rosario, Arauz, Rios, Davis, Brasier and a few more. I know Vaz is a FA after 2022, but we may not keep Wong, Hernandez and Plawecki on the 40 man all next year.
  20. Now, even Robles and Davis don't look as bad as we originally thought. Santana even did better.
  21. I like the yellow jerseys, too. I think Schwarber in the line-up makes for a better line-up but worse defensive alignment. He will not slump forever. With Iggy's defense and surprise offense, there is no need to move Kike to 2B. This helps the O and the D, but it squeezes Verdugo, Schwarber, Dalbec and maybe even Renfroe or JD a little bit. With so many days off and just 13 games to go, nobody should need to be "rested," unless it is because they are slumping and could use an extra day off to re-group. Anybody who know me, knows I do not think offense trumps everything else, but here are the L-R splits of our key players: Career (2021) vs RHPs: .874 Schwarber (.955) .860 Verdugo (.928) .782 Dalbec (.752) .728 Renfroe (.767) .678 Iggy (.653) vs LHPs: .912 Renfroe (.912) .897 Dalbec (.868) .761 Iggy (.794) .678 Schwarber (.774) .670 Verdugo (.538) Devers, JD and Bogey are playing everyday. Maybe JD sits one game in the NL park vs WSH, but even that is doubtful. Kike's defense is too valuable to sit, but maybe he sits one game vs a RHP: .685 vs RHP (.729 in 2021) .824 v LHP (.841) He will likely play everyday in CF (no Verdugo/Schwarber/Renfroe) or 2B (no Iggy) That leaves 4 slots to fill each game: LF, RF, 1B and 2B/CF (wherever Kike does NOT play.) It's hard to think of sitting Dalbec or Renfroe, at all, the way they are both hitting, but others are hot, too, and Schwarber is too good to think he won't snap out of a mini-slump. Iggy is likely hitting over his head, and Verdugo sitting vs LHPs seems automatic. Last 14 days: 1.159 Dalbec (.944 last 7 days) 1.152 Iggy (1.516) .904 Verdugo (vs mostly RHPs) .812 last 7 days .820 Renfroe (.542) .527 Schwarber (.451) .317 Kike (.403) I'm thinking we do this: vs RHP 1B: Dalbec (maybe Schwarber 1-2 games vs tough righties) 2B: Kike & Iggy LF: Schwarber & Verdugo CF: Verdugo & Kike RF: Renfroe (maybe Verdugo 1-2 games) Bench: Iggy vs LHPs 1B: 100% Dalbec 2B: 100% Iggy LF: 100% Schwarber (Verdugo late game replacement) CF: 100% Kike RF: 100% Renfroe
  22. To me, the super imposed rectangle is not accurate, but it exposes unacceptable inconsistent calls.
  23. Jeter Down with his 13th HR. (2 Hits out of team's 3) Winckowski 6IP 3H 1ER 1BB 4K Castellanos & Granberg 2-5 with dingers. R Hernandez 2-5 Casas 1-4 (2B & BB) Cottam 3-4 Cannon 1-3 (2B & BB) Padron-Artiles & Cobb combined 8IP 6H 1ER 1BB 8K Yorke 1-4 (2B)
