  1. TOR (TBD) @ TBR (Wacha) TEX (Hearn) @NYY (Kluber) SEA (TBD) @ OAK (Irvin) THUR (Sox, NYY, TBR off) TOR @ MIN
  2. I think we only sign Schwarber, if JD opts out (not likely) or we trade Dalbec, Verdugo, Renfroe or Duran (not likely).
  3. It's gotta be one of the biggest surprises in all of MLB- not just that he's closing, but that he's doing a fine job at it! I'm really thinking we take the $10M option rather than pay the $1.5M buy-out. Maybe, we restructure the deal.
  4. Since we lost the series to the Rays in mid August, we have done this: 2 sweep win (BAL x 2) 5 non sweep win (TEX, MIN, CLE x 2, SEA) 1 split (TBR) 2 non sweep loss (TBR, CWS) 1 sweep loss (NYY) 7 wins 2 splits 3 losses
  5. Big sweep! Rays lost. Jays won. Yanks down 10-1 in 9th. (Judge K'd with men on 2nd & 3rd in the 8th)
  6. I've never been one to admire the Quality Start stat, but I made some adjustments to my own system, and here are the results for 2021, including today. (I went through every game box score to gather these results.) A Quality Start: 8+ IP 0-3 ERs/ 6+ IP 0-2 ERs/ 5+ IP 0-1 ER/ 4+ IP 0 ER B Quality Start: 8+ IP 4 ER/ 6+IP 3 ER/ 5+ IP 2 ER/ 4+ IP 1 ER/ 3+ IP 0 ER C Quality Start: 6.2-7.2IP 4 ER/ 5.1-5.2 IP 3 ER/ 4+ IP 2 ER/ 3+ IP 1 ER D (just missed QS): 8+ IP 5 ER/ 6+IP 4 ER/4.1-5.0IP 3ER/ 3.1-3.2 IP 2ER The 2021 Red Sox Starters: Eovaldi 30 GS (20 QS/ 20 A+ 15 QSA 5 QSB 0 QSC 2 Close 22/30 QS+ close 73.3% ERod 28 GS (15 QS/14 A+ 9 QSA 5 QSB 1 QSC 1 close 16/28 QS+ close 57.1% Pivetta 28 GS (12 QS/ 10 QS A+ 10 QSA 0 QSB 2 QSC 6 close 18/28 QS+close 64.3% Perez 22 GS (13 QS/ 13 QS A+ 6 QSA 7 QSB 0 QSC 2 close 15/22 QS+ close 68.2% Richards 22 GS (10 QS/ 8 QS A+ 6 QSA 2 QSB 2 QSC 3 close 13/22 QS + close 59.1%
  7. This should all be on the 2021 thread, except that we will have the gift of playing the O's a bunch, next year, too. One can argue part of that gift also means playing TR, TOR and NYY 19 times, too, so I'm not sure about this being a gift.
  8. If pitchers are only as good as their last start, can anyone trust Cole?
  9. I know this is the O's, but we are fighting back like the early days of 2021. I'm liking the return of grit.
  10. If it meant being 1-2 down, right now?
  11. Which shows we deserve our position in the standings, perhaps more than the Yanks and Jays.
  12. In what order do you posters place these bubble players? This is my order, with who we should keep the most listed first: Bazardo Rios Cordero Rosario Arauz Davis Potts Brasier Plawecki I can see just keeping one from Rosario and Cordero, but our OF depth is pretty bad. Some of these guys may be traded. Some may be signed to minor league deals. If any of these guys end up elsewhere, it's not like similar players aren't out there to be signed by us. If we feel Wong and R Hern can handle the back-up catcher role, next year, that frees up the Plawecki slot on the 40.
  13. The Yanks can catch us, if they win all their games. They can even lose 1 and catch us, because they play us 3 times. The Yanks AND Sox cannot both win all their remaining games. One has to lose at least 1 to 3 games.
  14. True, but I'd rather be up 2 in the win column than tied. The Jays can lose, and they are starting to show some cracks after that great run they just had. Trends don't continue forever. There is a reason the Jays and Yanks are bunched up with us. They have weaknesses, too.
  15. Jeter has been playing SS, so just keeping him there solves a big part of the problem.
  16. All 4 farm teams won... Downs showing some life. Another tater, today (14th) Seabold 5IP 5H 0E1BB 5K Rios, Brewer, Schreiber and Ort all with 1 IP and 0ER. Groome: not so good. 4.2 IP 8H 4ER 3BB 7K Granberg & Castellanos with 4 hits, each. Granberg with an HR and two 2Bs to bring his OPS up to .805. Casas 1for 3 with 4 runs scored (HR, 2BBs) Yorke 0-3 with BB , R) Koss 4-4 (2B) Lugo 3-5 (HR) McDonough 2-5 (HR, 3B)
  17. I mentioned Richards as being debatable and ERod as a possibility. Yes, we won't need to decide the last 3-4 slots until after we sign FAs, but eventually, it will happen.
  18. Agreed. We should note that TOR & NYY play each other, as well, so 3 losses have to come go someone.
  19. 85-65 BOS 83-65 TOR 83-66 NYY TOR needs to win both games in hand to tie us. The Yanks have to hope we lose.
  20. Actually, some teams need others to lose- not us. The Yanks are down in the loss column, now, to both us and the Jays. I guess, if you assume the Yanks win all theirs, then the beat us 3 times.
  21. The borderline list is not all that great, and some may be back as non 40 man roster players. What's the alternative? I can see saying good bye to Richards to add one more slot. (BTW, I did not count ERod back on a QO.) We could limit FA signings by spending more on less players, but I can't see us signing less than 3. If you count no Richards and 3 FA signings that leaves 4 slots for these guys: Bazardo Cordero Rios Brasier Davis Arauz Plawecki Rosario Potts Likely will not be selected Rule 5: Cottam (5) Dearden (5) Esplin (5) German (5) Granberg (5) Ort (5) T Reed (5) T Ward (5) Yes, our depth is better than last winter, but none of these guys jump off the page as someone we need to keep, and we can still keep 3-4 of them..
  22. Those guys can really bash it! HRs 46 Vlad 40 Semien 28 T Hernandez 25 Bichette 22 Grichuk 19 Gurriel 17 Springer (1/2 season) We're not so bad, either: 34 Devers 28 Renfroe 26 JD 23 Dalbec 22 Bogey 17 Kike 13 Verdugo
  23. I never said he was any good- just better than before. 7.94 (1.012 OPS) first 21 games with us. 0.00 (.367 OPS) last 6 games. Also, Austin Davis: 5.44 before BOS 5.11 (.753 OPS) first 12 games 0.00 (.558) last 5 games
  24. Semien hit his 40th. Min up just 2-1, now.
