  1. Good stuff. Fangraphs has us finishing... 2nd in SLG .449 2nd in BAbip .309 3rd in OPS .777 3rd in wOBA .333 4th in ISO .188 5th in Runs (1 behind LAD) 6th in Hard Hit% 33% 8th in fWAR by everyday players at 23.8 21st in Baserunning 23rd in Defense -15.6 Pitching 6th fWAR 19.2 (ahead of TBR & HOU) 6th HR/9 1.12 7th K% 24.8% T8th xFIP- 95 (TOR 95, NYY 93, TBR 93) 10th ERA- 94 10th xFIP 4.07 11th K-BB% 16% The most stunning stat, in terms of the distance between #1 and #2 and #1 and the league average: BAbip Against .323 BOS .305 BAL, LAA .302 COL, PIT .301 KCR .290 MLB Average #15 .289 KCR We finished the year 33 points above the league average! All-in-all, one can argue we were a top 3-6 offensive team, a top 9-12 Pitching team and a bottom 20-28 defensive team.
  2. OPS .957 Schwarber (7 Hrs & 18 RBI in 168 PAs) .915 Iglesias (64 PAs and soid D) .842 T Shaw (48 PAs & a couple mammoth hits) 1.262 Motter (7 PA, but one big error) OPS Against .615 Rios (98 PAs) .692 Robles (109) .773 Davis (75) .819 Feliz (just 19) .864 Workman (93) 1.021 Peacock (just 26)
  3. 2nd Half OPS Against .569 Houck .694 Eovaldi .728 ERod .746 Pivetta .752 Sale .780 Richards .615 Rios .641 Taylor .650 Whitlock .692 Robles .742 Brasier .751 Valdez (one big meltdown game) .772 DHern .773 Davis .875 Barnes .883 Sawamura .948 Ottavino .963 Perez
  4. Saying outright, "This team sucks," "We have no chance," and worse, not just in one game, but for weeks and months is not the same as several posters feeling down in the dumps in one or two games and sounding like we likely lost our chance. Yes, we've all had our highs and lows, but there is a wide range on the level of negativity and defeatism. I'm not claiming I was a believer every second of the season, and I have pointed out I was one of the first to jump ship in 2019, so I'm not trying to claim I'm "holier than thou.]," but I weirdly expected a little more contritions from some posters than I've seen. Perhaps, I should stop expecting or wishing for the impossible.
  5. Not even close, but I will admit to sounding like a defeatist for a second or two.
  6. I know wins are a team stat, but we all know who starts the game has a major impact on who wins. Yes, some pitchers get more runs support, or somehow spread their runs allowed around in such a way that they seem to get lucky with winning, despite having other numbers that show they should not be winning, so much. With ERod, I have to think it goes beyond luck. Despite his flaws and missed 2020 season, the guy has led his team to victory at a better rate than perhaps anyone else in MLB since 2018. 19-12 in 2021 (we also won the big game he pitched in relief) 26-8 in 2019 (on a team that went 84-78) 19-4 in 2018 64-24 since 2018! That's a .727 winning %!!! 2021 Team Records: 7-2 Sale 19-12 ERod 19-13 Eovaldi (had some hard luck) 12-10 Perez 16-14 Pivetta (about what you want from your #5) 7-6 Houck 11-11 Richards Notice how no Sox starter with more than one start had a losing record in games started!
  7. It's one thing to be down n the dumps and poopy than to say things like, "we're done," "we have no chance," "we suck," "we don't deserve to make the playoffs..." (and worse)
  8. The HR/9 rate drop was very noticeable, but yes, much of the rest looks pretty similar. These point to more improvement... OPS Against .728 2nd half .793 1st half If you split the season after his first 14 starts... 3.03 FIP 2nd half 3.67 FIP 1st half
  9. He may not have learned anything. He might have stumbled onto a winning combination by blind luck. You give him too much credit. Chances are, he blunders the next game, somehow, although the elimination aspect kinds forces an all out effort where everyone is available and the next day is an off day, anyway.
  10. Oh, I'm not saying baseball will name Cora MOY. I stopped paying attention to awards long ago. 4 words: Derek Jeter Gold Glove. Nuff said. I'll stick with my own beliefs.
  11. You feeling okay?
  12. I'm in the front seat of the Devers wagon. We need to lock him up. This is not a kid we can lose.
  13. I think ERod's turn-around is the most unnoticed part of the second half of 2021.
  14. We did get fortunate on the injury front, until COVID protocols hit us hard for a stretch. What I find amazing is that no established players, except Eovaldi and Renfroe exceeded expectations. Whitlock pretty much came out of nowhere, but more than these three can be found where one could argue the did not reach 2021 expectations-led by Vaz. We had 56 players on the active roster, at some point, this year. We had 19 batters get over 48 PAs, including some real bomb outs like Marwin (.567), Cordero (.497), Santana (.597), Duran (.578), Chavis (.549) and Arauz (.643). We had 37 players pitch, this year, 21 over 12 IP. We had 18 pitchers with 20+ IP. Four of our SP'ers with more than 60 IP had these ERAs: 5.22 Richards 22 GS 4.77 Perez 22 GS 4.77 ERod 31 GS 4.56 Pivetta 30 GS Our pen saw Barnes implode as badly as about anybody ever has. Out of our top 16 RP'ers by IP (12+), only 3 had a WHIP below 1.350. Six of those 12 had a WHIP over 1.450. Yes, MOY. Period.
  15. Congrats! Who was the other poster to pick the winning choice?
  16. ERod did okay after the deadline: 6-2 3.26 (3.07 FIP) despite the .353 BAbip. He actually turned it around in mid June. 6.07 ERA in first 13 starts. 3.66 ERA next 18 starts.
  17. It's called hypothetical thinking. We do know Pivetta is not starting the Yankee game, so when you commented on us not knowing if Pivetta was going to the pen, that wasn't about the Yankee game. Everybody is "in the pen" for the Yankee game, except for the starter, Eovaldi, right?
  18. I was joking. I think we know Eovaldi, ERod and Sale are starters. We might not need a 4th starter until game 4 vs TBR. I think Houck & Pivetta are the 2 choices. I guess we could go with the 1st game starter (ERod?) on short rest, if we are down 2-1 in game 4. Simple thoughts- no overthinking anything.
  19. This is just my take. Stop overanalyzing. (LOL) Pivetta may start, instead of Houck, and maybe we use Houck as one of our closers. Next game is an elimination game, and we'll likely see another elimination game in the ALDS, so it's hard to know what roles our pitchers will have in the next week.
  20. I said the same thing and was laughed at by a few apparent Sox fans.

  24. We ended up with the 7th best record in MLB. 1 game from the 6th best (CWS). 2 games from the 4th best (HOU & MIL tied). Think about that: w ins away from having the 4th best record in MLB. This doesn't change the fact that we have some serious flaws on this team, but let's celebrate a season well-played!
