  1. Just a few... Luis Patino (for Snell) Nick Anderson & Trevor Richards (for Stanek & Sanchez) Baz, Glasnow & Meadows (for Chris Archer)
  2. Most assume they draft great, and they do okay, but yes, many are picked from other farm systems.
  3. Many of their best young players were acquired by trade.
  4. Each head to head game is a 2 game swing. Yes, anything can still happen.
  5. Are you implying the Sox are "afraid" to call up players? BTW, Baz is 22 and began professional ball in 2017.
  6. Salvador Perez hit #46, today. He broke Bench's HR record by a catcher. Yes, he hit some as a DH, but it's still impressive.
  7. Stunning. 141.1 IP 2 HRs 0.759 WHIP (I'm not sure how to find his OPS against, but it must be under .400.)
  8. Cal? Really? Ughh! Mo didn't get in over just 1998-2003; he got in for 1998-2013. In that 16 year stretch, he never had a WHIP over 1.097! He had a 220 ERA+ 1.060 WHIP He finished his career with a ML record 952 games finished. 652 saves 205 ERA+ 1.000 WHIP .555 OPS Against- basically Marwin Gonzalez with the Sox over his whole career. .588 v RHB .524 v LHB .562 H .547 A .562 Late & Close .598 High leverage How could anyone not vote for him on the first ballot?
  9. The Mets are no push-overs, but we should be able to beat them. Any series is hard to sweep, but 2 games are easier than 3. One at a time, boys!
  10. Out of those 37 games, the yanks are now 10-15 with 12 to go.
  11. My projection of 19-18 might be closest but still over the win total!!!! LOL!
  12. One big point made by jacko was that the Yankee farm was not only great, but it had ML ready players ready to contribute in big ways. The guy we got from them on Rule 5 has done better than anyone they have called up.
  13. Maybe it is time to finally face the fact that the yanks just are not as good as they look on paper. Blaming injuries, which happen very often to the types of players the yanks have is not an excuse. Blaming the manager can only explain some of the problems. Blaming the GM shows the roster was not all that great to begin with. With Torres at SS and Sanchez at C, I doubt any manger would lead this team to domination. Playoffs? Probably. Domination? I think not. The Rays and Astros are pretty damn good.
  14. Indeed. If we can get 120-140 Relief innings from Houck and Whitlock, an enormous strain will be lifted from the 1 inning guys. That presupposes we solidify our rotation without the need for Whitlock or Houck as starters.
  15. ERod TUE vs Mets and maybe Seabold WED (could be Sale). (THU off) vs NYY Fri -Sale (+2 days rest) Sat -Pivetta (+2 days rest) Sun -Eovaldi (+2 days rest) If we pitch Sale on normal rest, Wednesday: NYM ERod NYM Sale off NYY Pivetta (+1) NYY Eovaldi (+1) NYY ERod off 6 game road trip
  16. Bogey's opt out is after 2022, so that is right around the corner. I don't think we like Schwarber that much to essentially sign him long term, but keep him on the bench for much of 2022. If we sign Schwarber, we will MAKE ROOM for him, somehow- most likely a trade or position change for someone (please not Kike to 2B!) I can create some elaborate matrix for finding Schwarber room in LF, 1B and DH while juggling others around, so they all play 80% or more of the games, but why? We need pitching and defense- not another DH.
  17. I'm Bobby Dee's biggest fan. I'm not for trading him. I meerly pointed out that keeping Schwarber, at such a high cost with JD, makes it look like we need to trade someone to make room. Verdugo is worth much more to another team than to us on the bench. Also, we could trade Renfroe and move Verdugo to RF or try to trade JD (with some cash). Again, I'm not FOR this. I'm now leaning towards not signing Schwarber, unless JD opts out for this very reason, and the money is needed to upgrade the staff and defense.
  18. I know. It's nice to see you admit it.
  19. Indeed. I do this every year, and we always end up with different names to replace for the following year. last year's list was much longer (and worse), I might add. This year, it's only about 600 PAs and 450 IP (not all of which we very bad).
  20. For the Sox all at once, no. Downs could play SS, Yorke 2B and one a utility role. Probably one or two don't do well enough to earn a trip to the bigs, anyway.
  21. It does seem like having JD and Schwarber, at a very high financial cost, without playing them both FT doesn't make sense, so how do they both play while keeping Dalbec, Verdugo, Renfroe and Kike full time? The only way is to play Kike at 2B nearly FT, which makes our D worse than it already is. (I never said trade Devers.) If we bring back Schwarber and JD, it does make some sense to trade an OF'er or Dalbec to make room. That is not saying I want to do that, however.
  22. If anyone, that blame or praise would be on Bloom, unless Cora botches who he calls into big games. Cora still has a ways to go to prove he's the best of all time, but he's off to a winning start.
  23. So, maybe the typical closer can go 1 IP in half the games, tops. That's 81 IP in 81 appearances, which is more than almost all closers give. Many games, they are not needed. Other times, you need them 4-5 games in a row, but they can only give you 3 out or 4 of 5. A two inning guy that can give you 2 innings twice every 5 games would be giving you 4 IP every 5 games or 145 IP/season. He may be brought in in the 5th or 6th inning and maybe not finish (close), of he could be used for the 8th and 9th. I think the two inning guy, even if they can only go 4 IP every 6 games gives you 108 IP a year, and you can plan on his usage more than with a typical closer.
  24. I hope he starts and Houck closes or is the top set up guy, but if we add some solid starters, having Houck and Whitlock in the pen would be very nice, too.
  25. I caught a lot of flack for calling him the best Sox manager, ever. It was not meant to show any disrespect towards Tito, but the guy is a great manager.
